Hi everyone! I've been a long time lurker, but this is my first time posting. So, a few months ago I got accepted to AMDA in New York. I was really excited because it's my dream school. Unfortunately, my financial aid only cover around half of the tuition. I'm not able to get student loans because of a lack of available co-signer. So, I opened a sort of donation page for family, friends, and anyone who just feels like being kind and donating.
Basically, I'm just posting this in the hopes that some of you would be willing to donate or even just share this with whoever you know so that it gets around? I'd really appreciate it so much. This is my dream, and I really want to follow it! Thanks guys. :)

I knew a guy and girl several years ago who turned tricks to make money to go to AMDA. Should I see if they have any advice to offer?
I think I still have a good month or so until I'm to that point. Perhaps then? :) Haha.
Awwww turning tricks ain't the answer (unless you're good at it).
Best of luck to you with this! I was in the same situation as you a while ago with a different school and ended up not being able to go. I'm still sad that I couldn't do it and I do wonder what my life would be like had I been able to attend. So I know what you're going through and really do wish you all the best with this.
I'll give you a million dollars if you share my photo on Facebook.

Are they still turning tricks, Phyllis?
Or are they now on Glee?
Thank you, Jordan. I really appreciate the response and the kind words of encouragement. I really hope I end up being able to go. I'm sorry you weren't able to go, though. Hopefully, everything is going well for you otherwise!

Jordan, maybe you should start a thread to see if people here would help you. Maybe we all should. I have thousands in medical bills I'd love some help with.
When did student loans start requiring co-signers or is this like a bad credit thing?
The Age of Entitlement. yeccchhhhhhh...

Have you spoken to anyone in the financial aid office? I didn't need a cosigner for my federal Stafford loans.

PJ, I don't really know. It was like 18 years ago and we all lost touch after we stopped working on the floating showboat dinner theatre. But people knew about much of a ripoff AMDA was back then, too, so we didn't feel bad for them.
It's not a bad credit thing. I just don't have enough credit to get a loan that large on my own. My family filed bankruptcy, and even my non-immediate family doesn't have good enough credit to co-sign.
Cupcake, I'm not entitled, just have no other options. If you had a dream, wouldn't you do anything you could to try and go for it?
wonderwaiter, I have a stafford loan already, but apparently I've received the max I can get from financial aid. :-
Hey, kid. No one'll give you any money here, but watch this.

What do you do for work? How much have you saved?

You're standing at the cold, hard intersection where real world reality crashes into the fantasy world of a "Fame" rip-off.
Have you looked into the bad rep of the place you dream of dreaming to dream your dream if you can make 20 grand appear out of thin air?
PalJoey, I wasn't saying anyone had to give me money. I was simply asking that people be kind and do whatever they could, even if that just meant sharing the link. If it meant contributing a donation, that's fine too. Unfortunately, it seems that kindness is very rare here. That's fine. It was worth a try.
I was a teller until this year. I work at a newspaper now. I don't think I really need to tell you how much I've saved. Let's just say that with rent, a car, and other expenses, I've not been able to save anywhere near the amount I need.
I do know of the bad rep. However, one of my best friends goes to AMDA, and I've heard nothing but good things from her. So, honestly, I think I'd probably trust her over anyone.
You all know I'm usually one of the first to have fun with things like this but let's be nice here. I wasn't lying before when I said I REALLY understand where he's coming from. I was in the exact same position and desperate for help but sadly didn't receive it. If there had been things like Kickstarter or anything like that when I needed it, you can bet your ass I would have done the exact same thing he's doing.

But you have no problem asking strangers for money.

Are you receiving both subsidized AND unsubsidized loans? It seems odd that you would max out your financial aid in your first semester.

But Jordan, if you did do this and showed up on a board where no one knew you from Adam, you'd get the same kind of response.
You should donate!
Again, thank you Jordan.
And no, I don't need to tell you how much I've saved. Once again, I was asking people to share it OR donate if they felt compelled to. Mostly just trying to get the word out to people who like to show random acts of kindness - even if that means just donating 50 cents.
I honestly don't understand you people. If I saw someone in my situation, I would honestly at LEAST share the page. I understand if you'd rather not donate, but there's no need to interrogate me and bring me down.
I'm sure I would get the same kind of response. But after months of sleepless nights and desperation trying to find the money for school, I would have still done it. And it's like my mother always says "Go ahead and ask - the worst they can say is "no"
I'm sorry, I find this really weird.

LMAO. Again with the entitlement.
How is asking for help "entitlement"?
