Yeah, all the threads are getting a little out of control. I haven't even opened the Crash/BBM ones.
Salma was GORGEOUS!!! Definitely one of, if not the, best dressed women of the evening. I was also surprised at how nice JLo looked. I wasn't crazy about her hair, but I loved the dress. The color was gorgeous.
Why the conservative estimate? Did you mean 74?
J.Lo looked nice aside from being overly tanned. But she was well-kept too. No one else really stood out. Michelle glowed, but I didn't see her dress in full.
I should go back and watch the red carpet now. BRB.
I didn't like Michelle's dress with the wispy neckline thing that kept flying into her face on the red carpet. I loved that squashy color, but not necessarily on her. I also think she was overly made-up.
We're up to 9 on page 1. I wonder how many of the same participants are flogging the same argument on multiple threads.
Same arguments, plenty of flogging. I think they have all becomed tired and gone to bed.
Evening Tiff.
It is mostly the same 5 with the straggler idiots jumping in like they are the first to ever get the idea every so often.
47 just means "a very large number" to me. It is like 40- It might as well be infinity.
We are getting Jerby and Kitz on the podcast this week. A whole feature segment with interview and song clips of BWW for Kitz.
I hope that will bring in some interest for idol.
They will both also be telling us why Crash isn't awful.
I loved Selma's dress. I thought Keira was the "hottest" though. I LOVED her new red hair.
Howdy, YWIW. I don't know if you heard the big news about Crash beating Brokeback Mountain. Did you? I don't know if you'd be aware, living in, y'know, SoCal and all. Bunch of homophobes, that area's known for!
Yes, and you know, even though there were riots here just a few years ago, and simmering racial tensions between blacks and latinos, resulting in riots in high schools, prisons, and on the streets between rival gangs, apparently race relations have no signifcance in our current world.
Oh, I also found out that I am apparently a homophobe.
And, a commerical for Idina's movie was just on, which is of course much more important.
Keira wasn't bad - poor girl, hunched up trying to lean away from Jack Nicholson! LOL! But I thought Salma took the cake. And isn't Meryl Streep looking great??
I expect you to devote your ENTIRE podcast (except maybe a 5 minute Idol plug) on this SHOCKER! UPSET! OF! THE! OSCARS! Because it simply hasn't been discussed enough, and I'm sure that horse won't be happy until it's flogged into taco meat.
The sad thing is, I am so sick of it I can't even make a joke.
But since Crash is a life-changing, important Hollywood movie, those past racially motivated events are TOTALLY moot now, YWIW! Didn't you hear Jon Stewart? "And after these movies, those problems all went away!"
I stopped listening to anything on BWW when the said Stewart wasn't funny. I thought the show (minus the montages) was the funniest I ever saw.
Yeah, that is right. I forgot.
Now my Russian Blue cat will not play with my Siamese cat, because he does not want to associate with "those kind" of cats.
Ohh, the injustice of it all.
Here's my biggest fallacy with the point I see so often - since when does a movie being "relevant to the times" equate it to being the "Best Picture"? Let's say, for the sake of this argument, that Brokeback and Crash are all these "phenomenal", "awesome", "ground-breaking", "precedent-setting" films that they're being put out to be. So what? Is relevance of a film to "real life" the ONLY criteria to judge the best movie of the year?
I'm just not a fan of cats that are of any foreign nationality. Especially those Ruskies. Now, if I documented my hate of international felines and submitted it for Best Documentary Short, will I win because it's "relevant"?
As a "Grey-American" I think Good Night and Good Luck should have won in a landslide. It was the only one relvant to we "Grayers."
Nope. I think both movies deserve recognition. And, both films stand on their own merit. I think that both films spoke to audiences and touched them in ways that made the film very important to those who liked it. And, for Crash, a meltdown for those that did not. The near hysteria of some was quite surprising.
And, I agree that Jon Stewart was a good host. His quips between awards were funny, and he did not go over the top on his political stuff. I thought he set the right tone.
And, SP, now both cats are uniting to protest the fact that Penguins won an award. Clearly, the Academy is anti-feline.
Those cat haters.

Jon Stewart was great - he pushed the envelope probably as far as he could without being accused of being "too political" and alienating the non-left viewership. I hope he comes back next year. His deadpan delivery is perfect and his quips were so true (thank GOD he mentioned the gratuitous montages!).
I'm sure both films deserve recognition (I'm taping Crash at 1am and watching it tomorrow, so then I'll be able to tell you) - it just seems to silly that instead of talking about emotional resonance with the audience (which is what you're saying), people are saying it's about what is more of an important social commentary - it's gays vs. coloreds instead of just which one appeals to viewers (the Academy) more. And then if you like Crash, you're a homophobe, and if you like BM, you're a racist.
I am a homophobic racist who prefered Good Night and Good Luck.
But also an anti-semite, because I really disliked Munich.
Does it mean I am also closeted, because I really liked Capote?
I don't think anyone is really saying that if you prefer BBM to Crash that you are a racist. I think it was more referenced as a joke. I do think that because it took place in LA, that many people recognize in some way the issues and circumstances it portrays (albeit with a 10 pound brick over your head with good helping of overstatement) which probably influenced voters. But, I think the fact that both films were even made is a move in the right direction.
But, they are saying a lot of other very insulting things.
Oh well. Hey, I am taking off work tomorrow to finally kill the last vestages of this freakin cold.
I guess I will have to watch Walk the Line tomorrow. My mom said that in her opinion, that was the best film of the year.
And Tiff, how is your recovery going.
I'd read a lot in you preferring GNaGL. So are you a grayer because you don't like colours, such as skin? It's obvious this is your vendetta against Crash. I wasn't a fan of Memoirs of a Geisha. AND it starred a bunch of Chinese women (or "them yellow bitches" in your terminology, Clay). I think I'm a self-loathing anti-feminist.
Some of the Crash supporters have been just as bad as some of the BBM supporters. Generally I just keep getting called an idiot for disliking Crash. NORMALLY not a racist.
But screw that, I am sick of that. I think Tiff has me blocked or something though.
I...Nic and Claire are going to kill me, but I didn't LOVE Walk The Line. I thought the performances were great (especially Joaquin) and the nominations deserved (I guess Reese deserved the nom, but I didn't think she deserved the win) - I'm not a Johnny Cash fan and I'm not familiar with most of his work or life, so I suppose it just didn't appeal to me as much as it would to other people. From the songs that were in the movie, his lyrics seem well-written, so I'd actually be curious to read his song lyrics as if it was poetry, and then maybe I'd be inclined to care more about it.
Sorry if I'm rambling. I think the meds are starting to kick in. (The rib's feeling fine but the back is still a bit uncomfortable.)
I think Tiff should create her own thread going off on Geisha for using chinese actresses to portray Japanese women. That was, apparently, a hot button issue in Asia.
But what do I know. I actually liked 40 year old virgin, and Transamerica.
*looks around Clay* Anyone else? Aaaanyone?
(At some point, I'll have to bring up Rachel vs. Michelle and Amy. I like Rachel, but I just don't think the part gave her enough to do to justify an Oscar win, compared to Michelle and Amy. But that's another day.)
I'm almost done HP5. I feel like the person pushing the boulder up the mountain. Good God. I can't wait to start HP6.
