...any city's Chinatown,

...P.F. Chang

...and my own at home attempts (I always use too much soy)

My question is: What about good Chinese food for BREAKFAST?

I'm not a fan of PF Chang's, but the hole in the wall places can be far worse. You have to be really careful or you get piles of greasy warmed-up frozen ingredients that were in the clearance bin of the wholesale Chinese mart. I'll never forget the "meatballs" I was served in a soup one time. Greyish-brown superballs is what they were. Perfectly spherical and even had a seam running around the diameter. GAH!

Dim Sum, please.

A more common breakfast in China is apparently congee, rice cooked in a great quantity of water, resulting in a thin porridge. They eat this with bits and pieces- diced meat or vegetables, churro-like fritters and even left overs. My dim sum house serves congee but I can't warm to it.

so when you guys eat Chinese food... what do you order?

my favorite restaurant in Chinatown (Los Angeles) is Full House... when my friends and I go we always get the Sizzling Rice Soup and Lemon Chicken (I'm tired or ordering orange chicken... EVERYONE orders that now... try something new!! haha)... and crispy noodles...

The only problem I have with congee is that it often has NO flavor whatsoever. I end up eating the floating bits and leave the porridge.

My go to meal is always some Wonton soup, Crab rangoon, egg roles, and Chicken w/ broccoli. And of course an extra Egg roll to have with leftovers the next day. Loves it!

The General Tzo's or Sesame Chicken combination platters all the way (most places I think the only difference between these two is the sprinkling of sesame seeds on the Sesame Chicken).

I know neither are authentic Chinese food, but I get the feeling that 99% of what is in any Chinese restaurant is heavily modified to American tastes anyway, the same as Italian restaurants. I pity anyone who thinks that Olive Garden is good Italian food.

I'm (4th gen) Chinese American. So PF Chang's makes me laugh. The food, though, is quite good.

If I don't get dim sum once a month, I lose my mind.

I happen to like the food at PF Chang and Olive Garden too. Just because it's not authentic doesn't mean it's not good. I see them more as "American Fusion" restaurants lol.
As for real Chinese food, I love Juicy Pork Buns (otherwise known as Shanghai Soup Dumplings) and Steak with Black Pepper sauce. Dim Sum is wonderful, too (especially the noodles filled with shrimp). And as my mom says, I was "raised on Won-ton Soup."

ok... so I'm probably gonna have to be less harsh on my PF Chang comment only because bwaylvsong pointed out Olive Garden and for insane reason I love that place! haha... TOUR OF ITALY!!

I was raised on wonton soup and I love the thing with all my heart... but when I tried sizzling rice soup for the first time I fell in love with it... if I have a choice between the two I always get sizzling rice soup now!

I gotta say, I love hot and sour soup. Hot and sour soup with some fried pork dumplings.

I want Chinese food now...

This place by me at school has really great General Tso's tofu. Delicious. I haven't had it in forever... maybe tomorrow! How unhealthy is Chinese food? Is it just a lot of sodium or what?

It does if you go to touristy places or stuff like Panda Express/Safeway.

My favorite place is the one in town. However, they think I'm Mel Gibson. You see, I have an ethnic last name and there are always problems when I order things by phone because I have to spell it out with "P" as in Peter, "N" as in Nancy....so I started saying "Gibson...like Mel Gibson" and I never had any problems. That was years ago before Mel started his racist rants. I'm not to happy to be associated with I'm anymore.

The dry cleaners think I'm Cary grant.

I prefer Japanese, Thai, and Indian cuisine overall, but Chinese is a wonderful go-to choice.

My favorite is tofu in spicy garlic sauce. Yummmmmmm

There's the most amazing Chinese restaurant in the town where I grew up. Whenever I go to my parents' house, I always get Chinese.

My go-to is egg drop soup and chicken and broccoli. Also a big fan of moo-shoo chicken and chicken chow mein. Fried rice is also good.

I miss that Chinese food.. I really would like some right now..

The frozen P.F. Chang's Shrimp in a Garlic Sauce "meals for two" is a staple in my freezer.

Guilty. I love Chinese food...
Whenever I get takeout, I always order enough so I can snack on it the next morning. I'll munch on anything for breakfast, including BBQ ribs. Yummy.

Not a P.F. Chang's fan. Really got tired of them when they catered the V.I.P. tent for Cirque when I worked for them. I ate so many of those pot stickers I was turning into one.

I love pepper steak with onions.
