What's wrong with Larry Welk?!
Myron Floren?
Joann Castle?
Guy and Ralna?
and my favorite, Anacani!
AND, I wanted Brett Hudson and Bruce Yarnell...bad!
Love that pic of the King Cousins.
They all look like Doris Day clones on a bender.
And doodle, bad? What's wrong with wanting a little "variety" in your life every now and then?
Doodle, have you ever seen the Lawrence Welk show?
As much as I love variety shows in general, even my 81-year-old father says the Lawrence Welk show is too old-fashioned for him.
Exactly, Calvin. Even my grandparents changed the channel!
Here are the Ray Conniff singers~
besty, I should've said badly...
Jane, dont start with me about Larry! I love it...Bobby and Cissy?! Come on!
I will admit to getting a surreal pleasure out of watching one of those Gaither family shows. And that's probably worse. That and the old woman with all the jewelry who plays organs all around the world. Tee hee.
Doodle-you're kidding!
OK, I will definitely back off about Larr~
(seriously, I watch it all the time...it's on Saturdays at 6 and Sundays at 4)
Watch it for the clothes, just once...I dare you!
Doods-Now that's different! Watching it now for the goof factor is certainly understandable. Anything that's so bad that it's good is fabulous!
But back in the day, we didn't know about the goof factor-the show was just that bad!
I actually did watch it back in the 70s, not completely seriously...Sundays were about Shirley Temple, Al Alberts showcase, wrestling (pre Hulk Hogan) and Larry Welk.
Larry Welk.
"And naw, de lovely Lennon Sisters will sing for us 'Play Dat Funky Muce-ig White Boyce.' Let's hear it for dem!"
Ah no one has mentioned Tony Orlando and Dawn's show! Late sixties early seventies burnt orange, pink and blue bliss
Mention away!!!
Attention must be paid!
Sundays were about Shirley Temple, Al Alberts showcase, wrestling (pre Hulk Hogan) and Larry Welk.
Oh my God! With Little Liza, and all the Teenyboppers. And don't forget Stella Alberts, and Frosty Acres and "Remember, it's not pass an uncle, it's Passananti!"
OMG! I had forgotten the Mandrell Sisters! I never missed that. I loved the Kroft (?) puppets.
And one of my favorites, The Julie Andrews Hour
i loved Dolly Parton's variety show. :) i wish they'd put those on DVD.
but my favorite of all time (and it's no secret because i talk about it often) is The Judy Garland Show. that show literally is the best thing television ever invented!
JB, I could never forget Stella, "who puts it all together."
to be followed by Larry Ferrari!
Still traveling but I love, love LOVE this thread. When I get back to NY I'll post a few fun variety-show videos. For now, here's one of my favorites, an early Ed Sullivan appearance by Bob Fosse and carol Haney, performing "I Love a Piano" from their nightclub act. (WARNING: the sync is off.)

That King Cousin on the left looks like Katie Douglas from My Three Sons
A search for that image led me to this My Three Sons Bonus pic. Remember this little ball of sunshine? I think she needs to watch a few SPECIALS!!!
I know you've all been wondering if John Travolta and Toni Tennille ever covered Don't Go Breakin' My Heart, well here you go:

EVERYBODY who was ANYBODY had a variety show at one time. Even Shields and Yarnell and the had one for cryin' out loud!
