But he is going to lead the movie adaption of Stephen King's Dark Tower series! as Roland Deschain. So happy to see this green-lit, and great casting. I am sure he and McConaughey are gonna really bring those characters to life. Ka is a wheel.

We know Craig is gone Elba woud have been a good choice . With him out of the mix another name previously mentioned was Damien Lewis of Homeland and now Billions We shall see.

I don't like McConaughey, I think he is overrated.
I wish they chose someone that would be a better match for the charisma of Elba in this movie.

I went from hating the sight of McConaughey to being amazed at how good an actor he'd become and then right back to hating the sight of him. I'm glad he'll be kept busy by this series for a while -- it makes it all the easier to avoid him.

Sahara and fools gold are two of my favorite movies. Matthew was terrific in both and didn't play the same character with a similar story. in all seriousness McConaugheys performance in interstellar is one of my all time favs.

I'm probably going to get pummeled for this, but I never got the Idris for Bond hype. I thought Idris was brilliant on The Wire and rose above the hammy writing on Luther. He's a wonderful actor, but I never thought, damn, he'd make a great Bond. And, no, not because of his race. I just never saw alignment between the role and the actor. I think having a black (or Latino or Indian or Arab or Asian) Bond would be fabulous, though.

I agree. If they were going to cast an African-Brit in the role, Chiwetel Ejiofor would be a much better fit, in my opinion.

Chiwetel Ejiofor doesn't have the right appearance/poise for the role. It's too negative. He doesn't have that kind of charm.
I think Elba does have that charm, but he is just too plump for the role.

Plump was Roger Moore. Plump was Connery in later years. From what I have seen of Elba plump is not an apropos word to describe him.

It's not a generalized thing about all black people, you know it's just the specific aspects of "too negative" Chiwetel and the problem with Idris, which practically rhymes with obese.
It's unheard of for actors to change their physical condition for a role. Get another white guy, problem solved!
