Is it safe to put a fork in Chris Christie?

Posted: 1/31/14 at 4:48pmCould there be any kind of repercussions for him from a legal standpoint? (I know he didn't lie under oath or anything, but is there any disciplinary action that can be taken? Clearly, he did something despicable-and he lied about it.)

Posted: 1/31/14 at 4:51pmIf this turns out to be true, that there is proof, and if it is actually produced and shown that Christie lied about the whole mess -- calls for his resignation would begin almost immediately, and he'd almost certainly have to resign. For him that'd be a lot worse than any legal repercussions -- after all, these guys never really get held legally responsible for these things, they just resign in disgrace and that's it.

Posted: 1/31/14 at 5:21pmI never thought resignation, but he fired his own staff over this crap! I cannot wait to get home and watch heads explode on MSNBC.

The article headline is misleading, because it makes it seem like Wildstein heard it from Christie himself.
If all Wildstein is saying is that "evidence exists" and he's unable to produce the evidence, then Christie survives.
I'm not sure why the Times would not ask a follow-up question to the letter asking what the evidence actually is.

Funsy immediate editorial for the Jersey New Star Ledger saying Christie should resign if it's true.
They call it the "Broadway show of lies."

I don't know if anyone has had a chance to read it but there's a lengthy, damning article in The New Republic that discredits Christie's entire career. It's worth the read if you have any interest.
After all is said and done I think it's going to be the misuse of Sandy funds that brings him down, not the bridge scandal.

Posted: 2/20/14 at 8:49amYeah, I think it is the fact of Christie having been an irredeemable scumbag for so much of his career that guarantees that this isn't going away anytime soon. He's stomped on way too many people who are now in a position to stomp back -- all they've got to do is tell the truth. I get the feeling that a lot of people in Jersey are smiling very broadly as they happily co-operate with the authorities.

Posted: 2/20/14 at 9:35amHere's the thing about the bridge scandal.. it's a gateway drug. Christie has, as many have long known and many have long suspected, intimidated, manipulated and coerced people from his perch.. but that is a high charge and not something to put out there lightly. Christie and his office have done a wonderful job covering Christie's ample as# while pressuring staffers and appointees to do his dirty work and then leaning on other people to "do what their jobs require" bolster his positions, no matter what they think. Problem was that his select cronies (Kelly and Wildstein particularly) had gotten too overconfident and slipped up. They left a trail. There is, to be sure, a lot of public misunderstanding and mystery in the bridge scandal and more may come out and hopefully clear up.. more comes out constantly.. but it has given light and weight to all of the other misdeeds from the Christie office.

Christie's lawyer: Governor not involved in plot

Posted: 3/27/14 at 8:47pmYou mean Christie's personal lawyers found he had no involvement with the alleged criminal activity he was accused of? I'm shocked that the people on his payroll found him not connected to the actions he's denied since November. Shocking.

Posted: 3/28/14 at 2:54pmHe just held another news conference. What in the world could he still have to say? I realize he's responding to the report on the "in depth investigation" but really. He'd be better off keeping his big yap shut, not that I mind watching him hang himself.

He's probably reacting to the fact that nobody but nobody is buying that whitewash prepared by his attorneys.
Or, on the other hand--
David Samson resigns. Will be taking the Fifth and demanding immunity shortly.

Chris Christie might be having fun dancing with Jimmy Fallon but a new report in Esquire makes it seem like he sure has a lot to worry about.
The article states that US attorney Fishman is closing in on the Governor.
"The clearest, quickest road to Christie, both sources agree, runs through David Samson, a former Attorney General of New Jersey who’s 74 years old and reportedly suffers from Parkinson’s disease. So: Will Samson flip?
“They’ve got him cold,” says one source. “He got sloppy, arrogant, and greedy. Samson will want a deal. This way, he’d get one or two years. He’d have a future on the other side. He won’t want to die in jail.”
Fishman’s timetable is unclear -- he has yet to send out target letters even to the lower-hanging fruit: Wildstein and Baroni, and Bridget Kelly and Bill Stepien, Christie’s former Deputy Chief of Staff and his former campaign manager, each deeply implicated in the Fort Lee/GWB debacle. One source expects Fishman to return some indictments as soon as next month. Both sources say that all of those four certainly will be indicted -- and both further note that Fishman, an Obama appointee, hopes to see the entire matter resolved before this President’s term expires. “But Fishman is really focused on Christie,” says one source. “Ultimately, he believes he'll get to the governor."
This combined with his failing record in NJ (48th in job growth, credit downgraded six times, failed budgets, and explosion in poverty) squashes any hope Christie has of moving into the White House.

Abject failure as a legislator is actually one of the surest guarantees of Republican electability.

Can you hear him boasting now?
"Great to see you again (insert name of talk show host). As you know I've done the eat a donut routine on Letterman, appeared on Saturday Night Live, danced with Jimmy Fallon...this is just the beginning of my 'get acquainted with the people' moments that are meant to make me appear to be a likable celebrity. New Jersey was NOT last in job growth, many other states experienced high levels of credit downgrad but we weren't among the worst in this classification, all budgets fail in the early rounds and we have helped our people become more accustomed to new standards of living."
This guy is a B.S. Artist extraordinaire. I did NOT vote for him. I did not want him to get this position. I am eager to get rid of him.
Unfortunately for all the reasons that Roscoe has stated...he does make a fine Republican candidate!
