This has been going on for the last year.... Nonetheless, it will not hurt Christie in the primary but may be SOMETHING during the general; maybe a blip on the radar at most. I personally believe this thread is wishful thinking.

Like all things, it will depend on how much traction it gets in/via the media.
Lingering nonstories have languished nonstoriedly for a long time with no coverage until primary season blows them up.

Did Christie get a diplomat killed in a foreign country?

It's a big story, but I'm skeptical that it's a campaign-killer. I'm afraid that people who like Christie are inclined to LIKE the "bare-knuckled, street-fighter" BS.
I remember reading somewhere--I think in 'Double Down' (the Mark Helperin book about the 2012 election) that the committee vetting VPs for Romney were "flabbergasted" by the number of skeletons in Christie's closet.
I'm hoping that the Good Guys will wait until Christie has built up some momentum (Remember, momentum = MASS x velocity squared, so Christie may develop some SERIOUS momentum) before doling out the skeletons.

PJ, I have seen those and there is no doubt they are damning. But you would be hard pressed to find political gurus who truly believe this would completely derail him. You'd need a concoction of questionable calls/decisions/etc. along with this "scandal."

I think he can't win now. This is a negative campaign ad even if no one can prove his involvement (which could lead to federal charges for tampering with interstate commerce). So's that lovely moment where he shoved his finger in the teacher's face and yelled at her. So's almost every public appearance he's had where he's starting screaming or making fun of the person talking to him. So's his lies about why there wasn't a new tunnel built between NJ and New York. I could go on.
His own party will attack him as well for being too liberal. Did you know he embraced Obama? And worked WITH Democrats to pass legislation he wanted? Shoot, he just passed his own Dream Act, a big no-no with Republicans. Plus, he's from the big blue state of New Jersey. If his party doesn't eat him alive during the primaries, they'll certainly put doubt in the wingnuts minds and the Democrats will easily push him over with the ample material he's created through his own idiotic public behavior.

This would be a lot bigger problem for him if this was January, 2016 instead of January, 2014. 2 years is a lifetime for him to put this behind him and rack up some positive accomplishments and feel good stories especially if it can never be shown he was aware of and supportive of this activity. If the Dems nominate a nincompoop and the Republicans nominate a hard line right wing type, many who are closer to the center from both parties would see him as a reasonable compromise. He is glib, funny, down to earth, self deprecating and terrific on talk shows. It would be a big mistake to underestimate Chris Christie.

When stories like this come out, you know the Dems take him seriously. Amazing this gets play but our illustrious new mayors socialist leanings mean nothing. Better still the new city counsel speaker who has oodles of dirty laundry no one seems to care about. Where is Christine Quinn when you need her?
Let us not forget Hillary. In addition to her Benghazi remark, she was overheard by Gates talking to Obama and telling him (during the primaries) she opposed the surge only for political purposes She is playing with peoples lives which is a tad more important than NJ lane closures.
