Being calles 'stupid' by stupid? How funny.
Billboard said:
"A Public Affair is easily the strongest album she's ever made, powered by a couple of excellent singles in 'A Public Affair' and 'If You Were Mine"
This is the opinion that really matters to me.

Saying that this is her best album is like saying that Keanu Reeves' best film is THE MATRIX.
It doesn't say much.

Posted: 9/2/06 at 1:42pmJessica made herself a target to be compared to Brittany since she started doing lame pop songs. Like someone else said Brittany is not that great of a singer but, she does put on an awesome show. I've been a huge Christina fan since her fisrt album. Bow down to Christina! Someone who can actually sing! Out of Brittany, Christina, and Jessica, Christina wins because she hasn't had much negative press and her voice is the sh!t.

You're reading selectively, Muscle. This "review that matters" to you says:
* ... but they don't stick, since they're overwhelmed by the bright, gaudy retro-dance that dominates this album.
* ... they recycle Madonna's "Holiday" and Janet Jackson's "When I Think of You"
(Where's your originality standard now, Muscle?)
* ... When she tries too hard -- which she does a fair amount here: most horrendously on the stilted hip-hop of "Fired Up," which makes Britney's "Me Against the Music" seem graceful; most ridiculously on "Swing with Me," a reworking of Louis Prima's "Sing Sing Sing (With a Swing)" that just points out how good Christina Aguilera's similar big-band makeover on Back to Basics actually is; and most bizarrely on the attempted country-funk of "Push Your Tush," a disco workout built on the Ohio Players' "Who'd She Coo" but memorable for Jessica's incongruous Hee-Haw-isms, such as her opening salvo "let's get some grub!" or a tossed-off "cock-a-doodle-doo!" -- she falls flat on her face and it's pretty embarrassing to hear ...
* ... her voice is suspiciously buried in the mix throughout
So there you have it. "Horrendous, ridiculous, bizarre and embarrassing to hear." In the context of the actual review, the only one that matters to you, "easily the strongest album she ever made" barely even qualifies as faint praise. Especially when you consider the reviewer says she "falls flat on her face."

Holy god. I'm listening to her slaughter "You Spin Me Round" on Napster Premium even as I type. No lie, it's like a Kidz Bop version of a once-great dance song that had liberation and sex coursing thru its very veins, watered down, soul-free, and ready for its spot on Radio Disney.
And, oh man. There IS going to be some royalty sharing for the "repurposing" of "Holiday" on the title song. Did she think people weren't going to notice? I mean, she's even going to have to give Diana Ross a cut for the "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" ahhhhhhhhs that she inserts at the end.
How much processing can vocals go through before they can no longer be technically called "human?"

At first glance, I thought this thread title said:
"Jessica Simpson's Pubic Hair, Still $9.98 at Target Till Monday."
Such a bargain!

Ugh. I checked out "You Spin Me Round". The breathy sex kitten voice and slow tempo totally kill every ounce of joy that once existed in a new wave masterpiece. I can only hope Pete Burns is raking in some nice bucks as a condolence!
muscle, re: your comments to me. I'm a nice person with a lot of patience, but seriously, cut the sh*t already. You can defend her all you want and it's not going to change people's opinions. And honestly, the way you go about discussing Simpson won't accomplish that. Behaving like a hysterical fanboy and personally attacking people--calling them horrible, sad and stupid because they don't see things the way you do--is ridiculous. The only thing that will make you happy is if everyone agrees with you.
If you're capable of countering someone's commentary with an intelligent objection, great. I guess THAT'S where the problem comes in.
"If you dislike Jessica is (is?) ok, but at least say it yourself and don't applaud someone for bashing an artist."
I'll applaud whomever I want to, thanks, and aside from the fact that I think categorizing Simpson as an "artist" is a stretch, I'd see your point if I felt that was what he was doing. Did you actually bother to read what Namo wrote? It was "She's not a musician. And she's an inelegant singer who looks like she's having a spazz attack. Like Joe Cocker, without a shred of his talent." Which I felt was an astute observation about her, er, "artistry" and the subject at hand. It wasn't a personal attack or a bashing.

Anyways, there is a Jessica Simpspon special tonight on MTV at 10.30 pm, seems really good.

I don't think that Brooke Shields is a better performer than Patti Lupone, Patti is a waaaaaaay better singer. So shut it. Don't put words in my mouth.

Anyone watched the MTV special?
Now she has a new best friend, her hairstylist, and she sang her new songs at a gay club "The Factory", is that in LA?

Posted: 9/5/06 at 4:57pmDear Lord, I just watched The View on TiVo. What is wrong with Jessica? She sounded terrible, but, worse than that she looked like she was in the throes of an epileptic seizure. It was uncomfortable to even watch her. She seems like a nice enough girl but I don't get her appeal.

I used to actually enjoy Jessica Simpson, but this album is doing exactly zero for me. I find it unlistenable.
And "The View" today? What the hell. If you have a bruised vocal cord, DON'T SING. Not only is it incredibly stupid and dangerous for someone who makes a living with their voice, but for people who were not familiar with the new stuff, she gave an absolutely atrocious performance! I can't see anyone seeing that performance and then wanting to rush out and purchase the album.

Posted: 9/5/06 at 9:42pm"I belong to Me" is definitly not my cup of tea, but she sang because she has been cancelling performances during last week, which was the release of her CD week, probably she was forced to sing, and for that I find her to be a trooper, plus maybe her recording company is losing millions when she doesn't even try to sing. She never lipsynchs.
