Natalie Portman? For Suspiria? No, thanks. She was ok in V for Vendetta, but I just don't think she's right for this. One of the problems I had with the original is that the lead character seems way too mature and not fragile enough to be putting up with all the crap going on around her.
I don't think Suspiria is the greatest horror film of all time. It is definitely one of the most stylish and unique, but the story falls apart in the final act and becomes hopelessly trite. I almost prefer the urban legend simplicity of something like Friday the 13th than to be let down with most of Argento's endings. And there's all the awful dubbed dialogue that is distracting to no end (Argento was terribly fond of dubbing voices, even in the same language). The visual flair outweighs the writing and creates many memorable moments, but it's like looking at a stained glass window made out of tissue paper.
The idea of Portman seems good to me because I trust her choices as an actress. I can't see her doing a second rate direct to video deserving remake of anything. That's all I meant by that.
Oh sweet Jesus, this is a HORRIBLE movie. Not only did they change Freddy's backstory, but they completely got rid of Nancy being a strong female character. Everyone in this movie was so whiny and the deaths were boring. This had so much potential but the script should have never got green-lit. It should have gone through a few more revisions and improved on the original instead of twisting the story and making stupid.
I agree that Argento tends to make visually stunning movies that fall apart in the end. Still, the opening sequence of 'Suspiria' is a real work of horrific art, I'd hate to see someone try and update, modernize or recreate it.

>>>"I haven't been shy in saying I haven't been too excited for this but I went opening day today"<<<
Now doesn't this say something about Jordan's mentality? A mature, intelligent person would skip a film he wasn't "too exited for", but Jordan goes anyhow, sits through the whole blasted thing and then posts a message about "suffering" through it.
Jordan, don't you have better things to do with your time?
but he's a fan of the original series and wanted to see how this one added up. There were a few times I was DREADING going to see a movie and ended up liking it. It's not *that* uncommon.
What are you Dolly, his mother?
It says absolutely nothing about Jordy's mentality. I mean, really.
What an odd post.

Oh please, if I were Jordan's mother, there would have been a mercy killing at his birth!

EXCUSE ME?
When have I EVER given you any reason to say something so awful to me, Dolly?
Terrible film, lazy and pointless. It had nothing new to say and no new ways to say it. The CGI killed the 'scary' moments, the announcing jump moments did not work, the script was weak, the cast (except Kate Cassidy) were dire and it was not scary, tense or original in anyway.
The original had story, undertones, comments on youth and guilt etc, it was made on a shoestring budget yet is 50 times more frightning. A simple sheet of rubber latex with a man pushing his face against it were scary as hell, the CGI mess version in the new one was a joke. Tina's death in the original that saw that violent and incredible scene where her body was pulled around the room from wall to roof was reimagined so badly that i wanted to scream for all the wrong reasons.
Buy the amazing Never Sleep Again documentry about the making of the original all is follow ups and TV series. That's 4 hours (plus 4 hours of extras) that show you just how great the originals were, even the worst of the sequels offered something new and had so much love and passion go in to them. That documenty is the best i have EVER seen, seeing all the casts and crews from the originals, the story's the deleted scenes from all the films and the behind the scenes footage quickly made me forget the mess of a remake.
And Dolly you are an idiot, i am also a major fan of the original films and was nervous about seeing this remake but i had to see it, its part of a franchise i love.
