Wow! I can't believe Kathie Lee didn't do her own research. Asking Martin Short about his marriage and how he and his wife still make each other laugh must have been so hard for Martin since his wife died TWO YEARS AGO! He is so professional!

I have to defend Kathie Lee. She made a mistake. She probably went off script and tried to be personal with Martin. While she made a mistake, she meant no ill will and probably feels terrible.

She is in the biz with Martin, but maybe not close friends. I think of times when I see friends from high school or college and I am kind of tip toeing as Im not sure of their situation. I've done it my self-said, "How's Liz" and gotten responses of divorce, disease, etc. We are all human. To judge Kathie Lee harshly is really cruel.

Martin was gracious and I think we should take his lead.

"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal "I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello

The really messed up part is Comcast excerpting it, headlining the gaffe, slapping a commercial on it, and promoting it.

I get what you're saying Bettyboy. The fact that Martin did not correct her on air was very gracious of him. Elisabeth Hasselback did the same sort of thing with Stanley Tucci. She was asking questions about his wife/marriage after his wife had just passed away. I don't even know Martin Short but I did know his wife had passed away. Comcast is great about putting out these clips and I guess I'm just as guilty for posting it here. I just couldn't believe it when I saw it on tv this morning. I will own up to the judgmental comment because I believe that an interviewer should research their subjects. :)

No one is perfect and research only takes you so far. We are human. Research probably only covers his latest projects. I think Kathie Lee was going "off book" on her comments which got her in the mess.

I'm not sure if you mean that, or if you're being satirical?

Can you imagine what it might be like to work on a show and to have the company that owns the network that carries that show market an excerpt about your embarrassing gaffe? I think it must feel awful.

He did correct her off camera during the commercial break because right after the break she let the audience know that and she did apologize. Still, what a gentleman!

And it was good of her to cop to it after the commercial break. Nice of her bosses to add to her public humiliation.

Alec Baldwin once pointed out how weird it is to make a movie for a major studio that owns (or is also owned by) a corporation that produces entertainment-based tabloid shows, so that the company you are contractually bound to promote your movie for places you on a show that has aired your private voice mails and said and shown horrible things about you and you know that your paycheck and their paychecks are signed by the same corporation.

I just hate the tail-swallowing nature of the Entertainment Industrial Complex. Maybe they justify the headline to Kathy Lee by repeating "there's no such thing as bad publicity" and that it makes more people aware of the show and improves ratings. So, basically, sorry if we pork you publicly but it's all for the greater good.

I watched these two a few ago (when Once was on, perhaps?) I couldn't bear to watch them -- I thought they gave all women a bad nname.

As to this gaffaw -- as horrible as it was intitially hearing about it, I agree its likely just foot in mouth, nothing to make a huge deal over. It happens, sadly in this circumstance, it just happened publically.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'm sorry, but when I hear the name Kathy Lee Gifford, and now Hoda Kotke, I gag. My aversion to Ms. Gifford has nothing to do with this latest gaff. Since day one, I find her to be the most self conscious and insincere person I have EVER seen on tv. It's just one of those things when you must change the channel.
