The individuals who will receive the Kennedy Center Honors of 2009 are: writer, composer, actor, director, and producer Mel Brooks; pianist and composer Dave Brubeck; opera singer Grace Bumbry; actor, director, and producer Robert De Niro; and singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen.
Good group!
All worthy, but I'm very disappointed that another year goes by without Jerry Herman being honored.
No Ruth Buzzi? What a rip.
Well, maybe it's time to award the Besties.
Ruth Buzzi. Who else?

Charo of course. Jaye P Morgan. Has Gale Storm ever received a Bestie?
That's sounding like a line-up for "Match Game."
I think Dumb Dora should emcee.
Ha!
That'll be for the first annual Doodle Awards.
If I were in charge then Fannie Flagg and Patti Deutsch would definitely make the final set of nominees at the very least...
Lyle Waggoner, dissed again?
Lyle's got some sucking up to do...
Liza definitely deserves one! This is is a good group but Springsteen seems young for this honor.
Though he's only three years younger than Liza.

I took the liberty of writing Jaye P. Morgan's introduction:
"Jaye P. Morgan was so talented. (AUDIENCE: HOW TALENTED WAS SHE?)
Jaye P. Morgan was so talented, when she'd sing, people's ___(BLANK)____ would fall off."

And still no Francis Ford Coppola. What the hell is up with that?
I wonder which version of "Happy and Peppy" Jaye P. would do...
No Chuck Barris
What the hell

On the other hand, at least the artistic genius of Clint Eastwood has been recognized by the Kennedy Center Honors.
Award Justice has been served.
I'm not watching unless and until Bonnie Franklin is honored.
Dumb question: How are the honorees determined? Is it a committee, or do you have to get nominated by someone of a certain standing?
The Center's Board of Trustees selects Honors recipients for their lifetime contributions to American culture through dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television, according to the Kennedy Center.
Given that criteria, how come Ann B. Davis has been so egregiously overlooked?
Wow! Thanks Reg-I didn't know Sprinsteen and Liza were so close in age! Liza has crossed over in so many entertainment fields and so awarded for it- that's why I think she deserves to be on the list. Someday!

The Streep hasn't gotten one either. Not that I care, but there are plenty of distinguished/famous folks whose careers would suggest they're due for this ribbon thing. The one cool thing about the Kennedy Center thing is that they do seem to go after folks who haven't been as inundated with prizes as others.
Al Pacino hasn't got one, either. The Nicholas Brothers got one, which was pretty cool.
Yeah, they're always a bit scattershot--which is part of what I like about them.
Grace Bumbry is a bit random, but I love it (and her).
