I have zero shame, make that -100 shame, saying I enjoy something produced by Michael Patrick King over whoever the British guy is who lacks any insight into contemporary gay life in San Francisco. Or is it set "in Virginia"?

Michael Lannan grew up and lives in SF. Or do you mean Haigh who joined the project mid development as co-producer? I doubt he took over everytime Lannan mentioned San Francisco.
Funny though--I was thinking when you posted your thought on 2 Broke Girls that of course writers will be involved in things one might like and one might hate. King co-created and co-wrote (but Lisa Kudrow has said he wrote out all the basic outlines,) this past season of The Comeback which was perhaps my fave thing on TV last year. ALMOST makes up for the Sex and the City movies.
In the recent Looking podcast Jhoni was interviewed about writing the episode. Apparently she asked if she could join the writing staff (and will be back next year if there is a next year, for at least two episodes)--and said that her friends all joked about why a lesbian was so in love with the show. She did mention working on 2 Broke Girls and how much fun she had in that writing room but how frustrating it was that whenever they wanted to delve deeper the producers and network would cut them off (which could mean anything, I guess--and obviously she didn't say much more.)

I think you posted that last year, Namo, but it's still hilarious. I love how Drew Droege is in his "late 20s" at the start of the video, then "26" and then "25" by the end. Love him. Ooh, and that video totally reminded of that beautiful St. Lucia song that was used in the s1 promos. Always meant to check out more of his music, but never got around to it. Thanks for the reminder, Namo!
Eric - interesting to hear from Jhoni. And, hell yes to her writing more episodes of LOOKING. In fact, I hope they do at least one "escape" episode a season that takes the characters out of SF and away from their daily lives. It's a great way to experiment with the show without totally derailing everything.

Yeah I think "bottle" episodes (why are they called that?) often strengthen a show. Certainly with these characters we could use a bit more background--I liked the comment that in many ways we found out about Dom's adolescents as much as Doris'.

I actually don't. Message in a bottle? And why do you continue to read threads for shows you have zero interest in? I don't know that, either.

I didn't love last night's episode, but I do want to give a big ol' 'Yaaaaasssss kween' to the producers for showing a non-traditional gay male body type (at least as seen in various forms of media) in a way that was sexy and sensual. The sex scene was pretty f*cking hot...but I do want to side with Augustine's swift wash-out of his eye. HIV or not, leaving that stuff in there can cause problems. Like a sty that needs to be burned out, leaving you chocking on the smell of your burning flesh and looking like Cathy Moriarty in RAGING BULL. Not that I have any experience with that or anything.

Eric, you made me curious - so I googled - and...
A "bottle episode" is designed to take up as little money as possible.
Note that the term has become synonymous with "single-location" episode, even though bottle episodes can (theoretically) have as many locations as a normal episode. All that matters is that it costs less, because the money is having to pass through a "bottleneck". The Star Trek cast and crew call this a "ship-in-a-bottle" episode, which is where the name originated.

I haven't watched it yet, but is this the episode that was written to make Finding Namo a fan?

I haven't been able to make myself watch again since the Light in the Piazza gay kept begging to play board games, you know, good old fashioned board games?
Maybe I'll do a purge viewing.

Oh I don't know -- it looked real to me.
I found myself cringing at Patrick’s relentless stupidity – the guy can’t even bring breakfast in bed to his boyfriend without making an unholy mess, and the way Patrick and Kevin handled the work situation was one of the clumsiest things I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t blame anybody for heading to HR about it, and it was of course all quite deliberate on the part of the writers, directors and actors. I’m just wondering what the point is of having Patrick be so utterly immature – the point has been made and made and made again okay, got it. It's time for this to be heading somewhere.
I did like Brady’s comment about Richie always judging him, but Richie’s sad puppy dog eyes as Patrick and Kevin were dancing were expertly handled (I believed the poor guy was feeling pretty bad) but I can’t say I gave a damn that he was hurting – dude, you made your bed, so now lie in it.
I did like the way Agustin managed to defuse Eddie’s near-breakup with him.

If you think LOOKING is bad, just wait till Logo brings us three new series from the creators of Queer As Folk: CUCUMBER and BANANA and TOFU.
They make LOOKING sounds good.
AV CLUB: HBO should renew Looking, even though nobody watches

"There’s a half-hour HBO dramedy in its second season that’s one of the very best shows on TV."
I dunno. I think the AV Club might be overstating it a bit. I don't even watch that much TV but off the top of my head, the following shows have been much better this year:
The Comeback
Modern Family
Broad City
Mom
SNL
The Simpsons
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The Last Man on Earth
and Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix

Namo, I like this show more than you do, but Light in the Piazza gay is a pretty perfect way to describe Patrick. I just feel bad for Jonathan Groff- he's talented and very very charming, but this character is awful. Every two minutes he tops himself in stupidity. Shame, because every other character this season has improved, but I'm so sick of Patrick.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
