This show jumped the shark for me last night. If you are going to answer questions, don't do it with another question?! At one point I actually fell asleep. That would never have happened in the prior seasons, no matter how long a day I had.

Watched. Got a phone call afterwards with the typical, "What? What was that all about?" comments about the show, and that's when I discovered that I just don't care. "What was up with the flight attendant and the kids? Watching what?" It was all I could do to say that I had no idea, rather than that I don't even care. I don't like most of the characters, and the ones that I do like don't get screen time. Both Jack and Kate bore me to no end, and aside form kinda-sorta wanting to see Sawyer happy, I couldn't be less invested in the love triangle. The series pretty much ended for me when we found out the true nature of the Others and the fact that they can come and go from the island whenever they please. I'm so over the snail's pace of the storyline and the fact that things are presented that are NEVER, at least in any reasonable time frame, brought back up again.

I agree with the frustrations involved with the extremely slow storyline. Ugh. I stopped watching LOST somewhere early on in Season 3, and I doubt I'll go back to it.

I know at least some of the original writers left sometime during/right after Season 2. Anyone think that might have something to do with this?

Something, I'm sure.

Okay, totaly not done venting yet, I've realized. What purpose are the flashbacks even serving this season, save maybe for Desmond's? They used to be great for letting us know character motivations or shocking things about the survivors' lives that we wouldn't have guessed by their behavior on the island, but now they seem to be there mainly to preserve the formula. There's obviously so much that's unimportant thrown in with the things that we really need to be paying attention to, and the writers don't throw enough crumbs, or even let us know if/when they are ever going to explain some of the things we've seen. Take the episode last season with Hurley and Libby before she died. Are they ever going to resolve things related to that character, or is she just gone? I missed a few episodes this fall, so forgive me if they have and I didn't see that part.

I read back a few pages, and I definitely agree that the lack of the ensemble feel is hurting this season. We won't see some characters for weeks, and even when we do, I get the distinct impression that they've been relegated to plot devices to further the Jack/Kate/Sawyer/whoever else main plotline. They take two seasons to get me involved in peoples' stories and then I don't see them for months, or at all? I miss Sayid, Hurley, Sun (whose child will be 30 years old by the time we get back to her pregnancy story line) and Jinn. I can't even attach names to faces in the Others' camp, except maybe for Juliet. I understand the writers want an end date from ABC - I never thought I would say this, but let's make next season the last and spend the entire time answering questions.

With the slow pace, though, is it really the best answer to bombard the audience with an overwhelming amount of answers?

I do think that the lack of 'ensemble'ness is a lot of what has hurt this season. The fact that the flashbacks don't really serve a purpose anymore? That reeks of the original writers leaving. I was able to receive a private audience with one of the few original writers of the show, and he conveyed the process and the chemistry involved with writing the first season and how perfect it felt when it was finished. That chemistry, as well as the 'completeness' of the show, pretty much flew out the window when they left, especially since even the writers *THEMSELVES* didn't really know the answers to the questions they posed throughout the course of the earliest episodes. I mean, these are the same guys who, when brainstorming about the hatch, were like,

"WE CAN'T MENTION THE HATCH UNTIL WE FIGURE OUT WHAT IS INSIDE OF IT. The hatch is NOT going to be written into the show until we have an idea."

*Few days' break*

"I've GOT it. Inside the hatch there is a man who has to press a button every so and so minutes or else the world will end."

"... Whatever you say, man."

Just argh. Too many open-ended ideas, not enough closure because I don't even think the writers know what the hell they're doing by now.

I think the key, perhaps, to continually enjoying this show is for a viewer to cast aside expectations and accept that the story isn't going to be told HER/HIS way in the time frame S/HE wants. Let the creators tell their story in their way and relax and enjoy it. It is, after all, simply a television show meant to entertain.

I'm still loving the show as much as I did on day one. The constant mystery and trying to figure out the theories is half the fun of of LOST. If they didn't keep us guessing, didn't keep dropping easter eggs, we'd get bored, not frustrated (like we are now!). And LOST would be just like every other 1-hour drama on TV. It's bizarre nature is what sets it apart. Twist leads to twist. It's strange and entertaining, and I'm still loving every minute of it!

But, the show is NOT entertaining. It was sooooo boring last night. I don't expect all the answers, but DO something. There were so many instances where the music was telling me I should be freaked out or surprised by something. Um NOPE.

If it all pays off--if it all is actually adding up and leading to something--has meaning and purpose, I'll eat my words.

That's if I can actually watch it anymore to find out.

I thought last night's was entertaining, but I know I'm in the minority. Mr. Peach was like WTF is up with this episode? A lot of people from work also thought last night was bleh. I liked it for some reason though!

I could care less what his stupid tattoos say or where he got them.

I haven't given up on the show quite yet. There is one character who continues to get my attention....Juliet. I find her to be a very interesting and complex character. Who's side is she really on? We saw her save Sawyer and Kate but then learnd it was self serving because Ben promised her that she would get to go home. What confuses me is that Ben told her to go help Kate and Sawyer escape, right? She does so (killing Pickett in the process) and then is held accountable for doing something Ben told her to do? Isn't he supposed to be in charge? I'm actually interested to see what it actually means that Juliet is now "marked". Is it like a Scarlet Letter thing?

I'm not frustrated so much as bored, myself. Hence why I'm not really watching anymore. I catch it every now and then, and I find myself getting bored with each recent episode. re: LOST Season 3

I really wanted to enjoy this season, but the writing just doesn't seem to be what it used to be, and the Others just kind of leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Okay I got into lost 2 weeks ago when someone bought me season one on DVD. I have since completely caught up (I've been sick), and as someone who has seen everything very quickly let me just say that this show (minus very few episodes) was and continues to be absolutely fantastic. In fact "Flashes Before Your Eyes" (2 weeks ago's Desmond Ep) May be one of the best hours of television i have seen in a long time.

For those still wondering he can see the future because when he turned the key, his whole life flashed before his eyes, not just that which he had already done, but rather his whole life. Therefore he doesn't really see the future, but rather "remembers" things that he has already experienced. It's like the world's most serious case of Deja Vu.

Also last week's Jack-Centric Ep was not as bad as everyone seems to think. Especially because it was necessary to set up a huge reveal this week. First because it is a serial show, the writers needed to bite the bullet and move Kate and sawyer back to their island, which though tedious, and not all that interesting is a necessary evil.

The Cindy Flight attendant thing seemed to be less revealing than the commercials ABC ran would have had you to believe, but I feel like everyone needs to relax and let the writers tell their story. I am completely convinced that they know what is going on, and have every step planned. (Case in point: Jack's tattoos had to have been planned from the very beginning because that is what they actually read. If the writers had planned something so miniscule so far in advance, you don't think they have the much bigger issues all figured out. Come on!) Though I do sympathize with those who are frustrated with the whole answer one question with another method of storytelling that the show employs, the writers do reveal things that give you that shock factor that makes the show so great (along with its fantastic writing: "That's what they say. That's not what they mean."-Jack on his tattoo).

Finally this week just wait and see there will be a great semi-surprise come episode's end:

Thoughts on tonight's episode?

I personally liked it a lot. I really like Hurley of course, and seeing the scenes with his dad were really interesting...and made me feel even worse for him.

I KNOW there is something about Vincent, and a few episodes ago I told Jason I thought we would see him again soon. Honestly, what is up with Vincent is one of my biggest mysteries. Side note-that dog is cute!

Ending, not very surprising, but a nice set up, I am looking forward to next week.

other notes

Yay Sayid! Only for a second but he will be in it quite a bit next week.

Loved that it was back to ensemble while developing one character more for us.

Next week looks AMAZING

I really liked this episode too.
While it did not farther the "mystery" of the Island at all, I liked it because it gave us a character and motivations to actually care about.
It was much closer to a first season style of episode, and was funny and entertaining. It really showed what I like about the show and what it can do, and honestly I wish that there was more like this... actual character development, and less "mythology" in general. Unless they start doing the mythology better. I think last weeks episode was the worst of the entire series, so it was nice to see it followed by a solid, if not spectacular episode.

Although I still must say, PLEASE go somewhere soon.

Looved. This. Episode.

Hurley's my favorite character, I was so happy to finally get another of his episodes. They got me though, from the start I thought his dad was dead.

And some of my favorite character interactions--Hurley/Sawyer was the BEST--my two fav characters...you're alive...snuffy...ha!, Hurley/Jin (remember the gross fish from the first season?) Hurley/Charlie who were always together but their relationship was lost, Sawyer/Jin was also a nice little memory that they were stuck on the other side of the island together last season. Hurley and Sawyer especially had me laughing the whole episode.

I was waiting for something weird on the ending, because they kept saying this is the episode you don't wanna miss...but it was so great to see characters that I thought fell off the face of the earth...Locke, Sayid, Jin, Rosseau (was waiting for her!), and *especially* Vincent!

I couldn't help but be filled with such joy along with Hurley and Charlie at the end of the episode. It was just great.

did anyone else get the feeling that Hurley was gonna die soon because of this episode?

Everytime a character discovers him/herself or atleast a huge mystery about the person is solved they die. I mean i half expected him to die at the end of the episode.
