I love the message, but I have to say that I'm not crazy about the song. It sounds like Madonna's Express Yourself.

Posted: 2/11/11 at 8:04amI was disappointed, too. I thought her acapella line on the VMAs was much better.

I am not a fan of The Gaga. I got so tired of hearing her everywhere (Mostly in the gay bars, of course). I have actually put a cocktail down and walked out of a bar when her music was played on the jukebox over and over.
With that said, I like this track. She switched things up a bit and the song has a good message. Shameless, I agree, it does have that Madonna sound. I posted elsewhere that it has an underlying 80's vibe to it and I love 80's dance music. I would actually buyt it.

Posted: 2/11/11 at 9:08amLoving it too. But I'm probably loving it because it sounds like old school Madonna. Don't be a drag...be a queen!

True, True.....
However, this is a quote from her new cover story in Vogue.
"Speaking purely from a musical standpoint, I think I am a great performer. I am a talented entertainer. I consider myself to have one of the greatest voices in the industry. I consider myself to be one of the greatest songwriters. I wouldn't say that I am one of the greatest dancers, but I am really quite good at what I do. I think it’s OK to be confident in yourself."
...ok, I agree confidence is great, but too much of a good thing is offputting. I love her as much as the next gay, but take some issues with this quote.
Great Performer: yes
Talented Entertainer: Yes
One of the greatest songwriters: right now, yes, in the last 50 years of recorded music....far from it.
Greatest voices in the industry: um, hell no. Her voice is manageable for what she does, but greatest in the whole industry? not even close. There are so many people I would put before her when asked who has the greatest voices in the industry. She may not even reach my top 50
Quite good at what she does: hell yeah.
but be careful Gags: Over-anything is a bad thing. Over-confidence, over-indulgence, not to mention over-exposure.

Madonna's last album was not the best but had plenty of great tracks on (im obsessed with The Devil Wouldnt Recognize You', after 25 years in the industry shes allowed a few misteps.
And that quote from Gaga is so funny, come down from the clouds love.

Reminds me of early 00's like that remix of "I just wanna ffing Dance" from Jerry Springer Opera---a far superior song IMHO. The lyrics are just kinda hokey and down right patronizing in this song.
I'm not sure how Gaga can pull off any legit credit for being born a certain "way" as she is as normal as Wonder bread. Maybe growing up rich is hard? Just because you wake up on day and wear crazy clothes/make-up doesn't mean you are different, it seems the opposite is abnormal these days. Her much lauded bisexuality seems to have been what most of suspected, a stunt. I really wish the gay community would call certain people to the carpet over their flippant misuse of our struggle.
Now her duet "hello hello" with Elton John which just came out is really cool.

Posted: 2/11/11 at 2:04pmOh brother. One of the most popular artists out right now records a song that has such an in your face pro-gay message (something Madonna never had the balls to do) and you're complaining she used the lyrics "born this way"? She's not talking about herself. The kids in my GSA have been running in my office all day long to play the song for me. So I'm happy they have a positive message to be excited about.

I'm getting a kick reading the boys sniping at each other on Towleroad over this. Seems to be a bit of an age divide . . .

THIS is a great comment:
while I agree that it's nice to have someone sing about being gay and born that way, it doesn't make it a particularly good song! So again, it just reminds me of why we have to settle for things just because they are directed at us (i.e. civil unions). Just because McDonalds is the best food seller of all time doesn't mean their food is good or full of substance.

It's catchy. Not her best but it is stuck in my head and my friend shot me 5 different remixes already on facebook.
I am not all that familiar with her bio, when was this notion that Lady Gaga came from privilege? I just remember she went to catholic school but it sounded like a typical middle-class family.

Naturally, I'm sure the christian right will have a heart attack, but because Gaga's so well known, radio stations will still play the song. For me, that's one of the best things about this- no, it's not her best song (personally, I think it's a little overproduced) but it's a major song that has an overt pro-gay message. Considering how many younger people (myself included) listen to Gaga, the fact that she's promoting this message is fantastic.

"Oh brother. One of the most popular artists out right now records a song that has such an in your face pro-gay message (something Madonna never had the balls to do) and you're complaining she used the lyrics "born this way"?"
Oh Erik, it's these comments that crack me up. The reason why Madonna (or many other artists) have not done a song so in your face pro gay as you call it is because its tacky and desperate.
This woman has played the gay market perfectly. The difference between her and Madonna is that when Madonna started she didnt jump out announcing 'Hey Gays im here', the gay market found Madonna. Gaga has used gay rights etc as a selling tool for career......and the gay's have played straight in to it.
It's no shock that her new song is so in your face gay, its a way to keep all the gays buying.
Other artists Madonna included have recorded songs about equality etc but it's songs from the heart, songs not released, personal songs to their fans.....Gaga however will use whatever she can, or whoever she can.
