RoadCase will sadly be on the road to CA. The billygoatgirl will be in final rehersals for Urinetown and I have much chocolate to consume!
DD Yes it is time to celebrate and "Let the good times roll!"
In the words from Camelot "It's time to do a wretched thing or two!!
*runs out looking for beads*
Perhaps I'll run down to Rio for a few days to celebrate Carnaval.
I'm not a very devout Catholic, so I dunno...
I never used to celebrate it, either - although I love all thing New Orleans! So, thanks to this thread, this year I will dine on red beans & rice, drink bourbon, listen to a New Orleans jazz band cd, and write out another check for Katrina relief.

Perfect, Just! I'm playing zydeco music, myself. I have a beignet mix, but they never turn out like the ones in NO.
While Mardi Grais (Fat Tuesday)and Carnival (Good-bye Meat) do have there roots in the Catholic faith. You don't need to be Catholic to celebrate. I myself am a "recovering" Catholic. Too Catholic to be Protestant ant too Protestant to be Catholic. So I am in a religious limbo. I enjoy the time before Lent starts, and look forward to what lies at the end of Lent.
Recovering Catholic here too. Oh... so much to recover from.

Not recovering from anything here - just enjoying the journey.
Actually, although I'm a practicing Catholic, Mardi Gras is more of an ethnic celebration for me. We French Canadians party it up this time of year like nobody's business. It helps that many of my immediate family members live around the New Orleans area. Mardi Gras celebrations last for weeks in our family.
Truth be told, my wife & I would love to be celebrating Mardi Gras in Vegas at the Rio. There every night is Mardi Gras with overhead floats, costumes & beads being thrown at you.
Everytime we go to Vegas, we pop in . A good place there is atop the hotel at the Voodoo Lounge. Great drink concoctions

*whispers in brd's ear*
Come to New York......come to New York.....
or D.C.
Happy to be Catholic here too, Bluemoon. I embrace both Lent and Mardi Gras - both are about the needs of the human spirit.

I heard the silliest thing on David Letterman the other night. He said that FEMA would be entering a float in the Mardi Gras Parade this year in New Orleans. It will be arriving on Labor Day.

Yenta, I just called my mother, who is living in a FEMA trailer and told her that joke. She said to tell you it made her day!
***another wisper in brd'd ear*** "come to New York 3/11!! You know you want to!!"

Now, mom, if we both whisper in his ear and he still stays in Chicago.......does that mean we've lost our touch?
What's 3/11?
