'from his Deluxe Room at the West Side Club.'

What is that? A room with a drain in the floor?

Calvin, I, too, am shocked at myself considering voting Gravel in the primary.

But, I actually don't think Clinton is as willing to throw the gay community aside as you do. I do think she is a crafty politician, but you don't have to look for long to see that she cratfs her way into office so she can enact liberal policy. Occasionally, she becomes pragmatic and has to let one go, but most of the time, she finds a way. I'd be fine with voting for her in the general election if there isn't a third party option that I am 100% behind. And, of course, I'd vote for her if I was voting in a swing state.

I am still registered to vote in Tennessee, so I will be voting for whomever gets on the democrat ticket. I will still be defeated. (By a landslide if Thompson is on the republican ticket.)

Anyone know if there are any plans for the same groups to sponsor a Republican debate? I think it would be very interesting to see who accepted the invitation, and how the candidates responded to questions similar to those posed last night.

The offer was made and no Republican candidates accepted.

Which, I think, speaks louder than ANYTHING any of the Dems said last night.

I'm an Obama fan all the way. Don't really care for the rest.

Why do you guys bother with that HD person? I don't think it even reads the replies sent to it... it just parrots the same tripe over and over. Maybe if it actually defended its position once in a while...

Isn't there an ignore function for obnoxious posters? Maybe if we all employ it, HD will go away (and come back in a new, even more insidious troll-guise).

HDT in Da House! Till Sunday.

"""Calvin, I, too, am shocked at myself considering voting Gravel in the primary."""

Do you think that most people in your community are supporting Gravel?

I really like Obama's positivity...I'm just not sure I've gotten a handle on what he is really about. What his presidency would really look like.

While he said he would be glad to have tea with Castro and Chavez, he said he would attack our ally, Pakistan. That sounds like one hell of a presidency to me.

On the other hand, Ronin, I'm still not sold on Hillary, either. More and more I'm finding her to be extremely commanding...in fact, presidential. I'm just not sure I'm with her on the policy front.

I think I have found myself having a very "I don't care who they run... anything is better" attitude, rather than picking a favorite. I think I am a Hillary girl at this point.

Well...that's the catch, isn't it?

Hillary's greatest asset is that she comes off as utterly competent. Which should, of course, be the starting point for the discussion and not the finish line. But after 6+ years of absolutely and unbelieveable incompetency, to the point where that, were this a movie, it would be HILARIOUS, we are simply looking for a competent leader.

I have to tell you, on the Republican side, Rudy has some big problems when it comes to his 9/11 truthiness about being prepared for attacks and Fred Thompson can't really stake a major claim since he seemed, at best, bored with the Senate and left early to return to TV.

Romney may be their best hope, at this point.

Did you guys even watch it???

It should have been called the Melissa Etheridge Show, as the singer/moderator nailed the candidates with some tough questions. She even told Hillary that her husband Bill had thrown gays "under the bus."

Any reactions to that?

HD who hates gays says the debates should have been called the Melissa Etheridge show.HD who is so connected with the gay community.HD who praises and believes Dr.Laura.HD is curious to hear what us gays think of the tough questions asked.

HD, no matter how honest of a response we give you'll twist it around and make yet another anti gay remark and mock the gay community. What does this discussion have to do with you? Do you care about the Democrats running for President? Do you care about gay people? Do you REALLY want an answer or do you still just want to spew hate and play? Your very silent about the President of the Young Republicans and his sick molestation charges. Why is that? What are your thoughts on Jeff Gannon? A male prositute coming and going all hours of the night to the White House? What about all these other anti gay Republicans with their boy toys? What are your thoughts on that HD?

Of course, Jerseygirl, my heart is with Kucinich (a little less so with Gravel cause he seems...well...unbalanced. But I adore the man anyway).

I'm just sad Biden and Dodd weren't there. Dodd spoke very eloquently about how his children may, in fact, be of a different sexual orientation than their parents and how that colors how he views the marriage issue. And Biden is, as a dear friend mentioned, a wiz at foreign policy. Perhaps a Sec. of State Biden in the future?

My favorite question of the night:

(to Obama...who got pissed at the question)
"A recent poll of the NY times and MTV of Americans ages 17-20 show that 44% of them favor same sex marriage compared to 28% of the public. Now you're running as a candidate of change, but how can you run as a candidate of change when your stance on same sex marriage is decidedly old school?"

Richardson was embarrassing. When he flat-out said that being gay is a choice when ME was clearly leading him to the correct answer, I lost any sort of respect I had for him. I'm definitely a Clinton supporter. She seems very connected to the people and I think that, although her proposed steps toward a more equal world are not as grand as some of her competitors, she knows how to move us there without upsetting the rest of the world too much.

I missed the debates...what did Richardson say? He's been pro-gay in the past. He was one of my top choices, now I'm not so sure.

I liked Kucinich as well, but as many of the candidates said, (Hillary better than Bill Richardson) we have to go for what is attainable. While he was wonderful and I wanted to hug him and thank him for the wonderful things he is willing to fight for, it's really going to come down to Hill and Obama with Edwards somewhere behind.

As for Melissa's hard hitting questions, I loved her question to Hillary and Hillary's response. She said, and I am sure she was prepared for the question, that because of everything that Melissa had been through with coming out, health issues and so many other things, she understood Melissa's desire to have things happen now rather than tomorrow. And she promised to do as much as she could. I really think that is the most anyone can promise. Bill DID promise a lot and while he did try, he didn't accomplish that much. I think DADT was done with the best of intentions, but it was disastrous. He did nominate cabinet members who were openly gay. I don't think any one candidate realizes how much their ideas are going to get the smack down. Actually, Hillary may get that more than anyone. She's been there, if only on the spousal side.

Logo Presidential Forum: Providing A Narrow View of Your Sad Existence.

RUSH: Let's start with the audio sound bites here from last night's Human Rights Campaign forum with the Democrat presidential candidates. The moderator was Melissa Etheridge and she had this exchange with the Democrat frontrunner, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

ETHERIDGE: I remember when your husband was elected president, I actually came out publicly during his inaugural week. It was a very hopeful time for the gay community. For the first time we were being recognized as American citizens. It was wonderful. We were very, very hopeful -- and in the years that followed, our hearts were broken. We were thrown under the bus. We were pushed aside. All those great promises that were made to us, were broken.

RUSH: What promises?

ETHERIDGE: A year from now, are we going to be left behind like we were before?

MRS. CLINTON: Well, you know, obviously, Melissa, I don't see it quite the way that you describe, but I respect your feeling about it. I think that we certainly didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but I believe that there was, uhh, a lot of honest effort going on by the president, the vice president and the rest of us who were trying to keep the, uh, the momentum going.

RUSH: What are we talking about here? Does anybody have the slightest clue? I don't. I don't know what promises were made. What promises does Melissa Etheridge remember Bill Clinton having made, and when did they get thrown under the bus for what? For what? You can say "don't ask, don't tell," but I don't think she's talking about that. Of course there's Hillary (mumbling), "Well, uh, uh, there...there could have been a lot more done." These people had eight years to do all this stuff, and they didn't get it done. (sigh)
