re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

I thought Peggy's mother or sister is taking care of the Peggy's baby. They have visited the issue for a while, but I seem to remember this being the case no matter what she actually told Pete.

I could be wrong though.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

Every week I say - please let this not be another episode where Don Draper sleeps with everything in a skirt. It is almost laughable now. Lots of other good story lines with interesting things happening keep this show from jumping the shark for me, but it is nowhere near as good as the first two seasons. (I didn't care for the third season either but Elisabeth Moss and several other actors on this program make it worth keeping up with, without my prior enthusiasm.)

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

Dr. Faye did tell Don he was probably going to get re-married within a year of her observation. I knew from that moment if she had a recurring role she would be one of the candidates. Megan's an interesting one but that went pretty fast.

re. Peggy pregnancy- I was definitely confused the first time around and thought that she gave the baby to her sister. Weiner did later confirm she gave the baby up for adoption.

I think The Suitcase episode was one of the best episodes the show ever had, and I think both Moss and Hamm need to send that episode to the Emmy committee.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

I think Mad Men has turned into a Peyton Place soap opera. Let's see... who is sleeping with who this season:

Peggy, who inexplicably lost Duck as the season started, slept with a nerdy guy who was bad in the sack, now she has a Bohemian Beau who leaves her with lipstick teeth.

Joan and Roger have the "forbidden" love on the show. On again, off again, they just can't resist each other, and they do what anyone else would do on the side of the street after being mugged... Hmm...did Joan have that abortion? Next week, Roger surprises Joan with Lambada lessons.

Betty and what's his name. She is not only Mommy Dearest, she also seems to be turning into an ice maiden in the sack.

Lane started the season with a hooker, then found pleasure in the arms of a black Playboy bunny until daddy beat some sense into him.

Don also started the season off with a hooker, this one slapped him, then he started dating Miss Preppy Ingenue, then he "took advantage" shall we say, of his secretary, who left in tears... then he started sleeping with the marketing lady who has a heart the same color as her hair, and who violated her code of ethics for him, WHILE he was schtupping his new secretary...

Surprisingly the one normal couple is Pete and Trudy, who seem madly, passionately in love, and can cut a rug to boot. I say surprisingly considering Pete's predilection toward rape (the au pair) and aggressive sex (Peggy)..but nonetheless they are the most stable couple right now.

Since I don't like soap operas, why am I still watching this? For Sally. Her storyline and character are intriguing. The girl is fantastic.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

You must be really bored 95% of the time then, if you're watching for such a minor character.

The season picked up a year or so after the last. I assumed Peggy and Duck had run their course.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

They did. Months have gone by since The Suitcase and Duck's re-appearance ended whatever was there. He called her a whore in front of a Don and they drunkenly and pathetically took swings at each other.

I think Joan did go through with the abortion. I thought the what led them to conception was indeed ridiculous but I think half of the soapy-ness of Mad Men comes from fans, guilty as charged, speculating.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

SPOILERS.

I love that kid, what's his name? I think he's the creator's (Weiner)s son? Great show tonight. Joan's definitely pregnant, Don's engaged, Betty fired Carla, Peggy got a new acct. Lots of subtext. The entire mid 60's cultural shift captured so perfectly in minute ways. I love this show. Fave scene tonight: Joan/Peggy (the love/hate girls), coming to grips w/the pre women's lib double standard.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

Glenn is the kid's name.

SPOILERS
I have read the negative feedback. It's not last year's finale and honestly, that cannot be duplicated. I actually liked the craziness and meta-ness of the season finale. I love the theme of change. No more Draper home. The kids in their own way know that their dad is called Dick. I do think Don and Megan are sincere in their relationship but you wonder if it can last. Dr. Faye predicted he would get married during the Christmas party episode. It seemed so fast, Don didn't even officially break up with Dr. Faye for goodness sakes, but there seems to be sincere consideration by Don seeing how she interacted with the children. Wonder if Megan's staying in office or making like Jane Sterling.

Speaking of which, I wish we get to hear more about Roger's published memoir in the upcoming season.

I loved the Peggy/Joan scene too. I hated that they fought when Joan was being harassed by Joey and Peggy trying to help backfired earlier, so them connecting over hating when Peggy pulled something off impressive going unnoticed put a smile on my face.

Betty really needs to go to a therapist. Even Henry's had enough. What a child. At this rate I could see a messy custody battle in the future.

Joan got a promotion but she is pregnant. I really want to see what's gonna develop there rather than shoot through a whole year like this season's premiere. I can understand the reasoning that since it is Roger's baby it can be reconciled she'd keep it but still, Greg Harris.... ugh. And Weiner was adamant that jerk will not die overseas.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

SPOILERS HERE, TOO

I guess the writers have decided that Don Draper can just be made to do anything and viewers won't care that it makes NO SENSE. Megan is a good secretary and a good childcare provider and apparently good in bed. But marriage? Don has just gone through hell with Betty, is watching the firm go down the tubes, and now he marries someone he hardly knows? A good weekend with the kids in Disneyland is hardly a rational basis for a committed relationship - not that Don has ever taken commitment seriously. If they want to focus on Peggy and Joan next season, fine, but I have totally lost interest in Draper. Don't love him, don't hate him, just don't understand him. Here come the shark -

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

SPOILERS

I think a couple of months have gone by since they had their first sexual encounter. They can definitely have a relationship, but at that level is pretty insane. I knew the moment Betty fired Carla he would take Megan. Also Don always struck me as a hopeless romantic, especially when in the Rachel Mencken relationship he wanted them to run off together. This seems in line with that. It might not even make it to the altar, who knows. That milkshake scene really made Don go on impulse to move forward in his life (that speech to the American Cancer Society was totally foreshadowing). He reacted on the fact Megan isn't Betty, but can see her in Betty's shoes. I will defer to Mrs. Harris over the men in the office with their secretaries.

You wonder if Faye is going to unleash Don's secret due to her scorn or will quietly just disappear like many other supporting players. Either her or Betty are gonna spill to somebody, imo.

And January Jones, while certainly not everyone's favorite, is going to have a huge role in season six apparently. I missed that frigid bitch!

So, did anyone watch the 2 hr premiere tonight?
Ooh, that Saarinen furniture in Roger's office! I want me some!!

Good episode..loved the Hawaii scene.
And, Betty and the beef in the Village.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

I dug the episode but it had what I liked (and not necessarily what other people like), in charge Peggy, vulnerable introspective Roger, mid-life crisis Betty, bitchy Sally, and totally clueless Don. I know, very little Joan and Pete. There are other episodes, folks.

Also, dammit Don! Not just because he cheated on his wife but who's wife he cheated with. That doctor seems like such a good guy.

Favorite part of the episode, Don not even trying to sell the mythology of the trip after his pitch that surrounded that trip blew up in his face. He is not even bothering to sell another 'Carousel'. Certainly not with his mistress right there.

I actually find Roger's fashion evolution kind of acceptable. Then again, what Harry Crane, Michael Ginsberg, Pete Campbell, and Peggy's boyfriend bring to the table, Stan and Ken probably the only acceptable young people of the group, is not a lot of promise either. I also hope James Wolk is a recurring character.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

I liked it, but I personally could have done without the whole Betty and Sandy thing. Maybe it's just me, but that stuff bored me to tears. (Granted, it probably is just me. lol)

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

Other than Peggy Olson, I found the entire two hours to be a huge bore. Weiner has managed to make me not care about any of these characters, much less understand their motivations. I watched very little last year, and it looks like I have no reason to come back this year. I figure Don is going to lose his talent because he is so (suddenly) concerned about his identity issues, and Peggy Olson will come back to rescue the firm by providing the great ideas under pressure. The Prodigal returns. Only kidding - I doubt the actual series will be that interesting as it completes its final two seasons. I got burned watching LOST religiously for seven years and having a no-ending ending. Here comes the shark -

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

Wonkit, there are people who like the early seasons, people who like the latest seasons, and people who still think it has always been a great ride. The character motivations are clear. If anything this series has included a transparency of that in later seasons.

Also, I am certain Peggy will not come back and am not so sure that's even an interesting story line. Weiner and Moss have been emphatic that she needs her own identity in a different environment.

And jump the shark is a tired phrase.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

First off, I want to say that I missed this how so much. That being said, I found the episode disjointed and it seemed like nothing really happened (more than usual) and the editing was weird as well. But, it's one of my favorite shows so I can't wait to see where they go with this.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

The editing seemed no different than the Season 5 experiments of "The Other Woman" and "Far Away Places". Same director, in fact.

Admittedly, at first I did think the opening moments were a flash-foward of Don but then it was the doorman and either his point of view (or what Don imagined his point of view would be when facing death).

I think the point is some characters are stuck and facing it directly and indirectly, Roger more directly while Don is still avoiding dealing with his conscience in as open a manner. Peggy is the only person on the up and up.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

I have only seen the first 1/4 at this point, but Betty joking about raping the child made me sick.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
#349

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

I'm so happy that Fat Betty is still around. And after (SPOILER) the dye job, I like to now refer to her as Apple(shaped) Brown Betty!

Her rape monologue was astonishing. Horrifying. I also thought it was so interesting how they showed how condescending the whole 'Oooooh, Hawaii...how exotic!' was at the time (and maybe continues to this day?)

Did anyone else think we were going to get the doctor (an actor I loved in ANGELS IN AMERICA and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR, even though I don't know his name) and Don making out? It was so...tension filled. And then we found out why.

re: MAD MEN: SPOILERS

It took me forever to remember that the bald guy at Peggy's agency was the one who threw a fit when he got fired from Sterling Cooper several seasons ago.
