Madonna definitely deserves credit for her efforts. After all, she didn't have a holiday this summer.
Madonna is a relic from 1985. I can't imagine anyone being interested in her today.
lol it's moronic remarks like the one above that really make me adore Namo even more.

Atlantic CIty - MDNA Tour
Madonna dedicates Masterpiece to Lady Gaga.
She says she loves her....she really does... then she follows with......

God, she is funny.
Madonna loves Lady Gaga
I was there Saturday. Just a quick note about the venue. If you ever get a chance to see a show at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City I say go for it. With it's small capacity (14,000 I think) there really isn't a bad seat in the house.

I saw Confessions there. It was pretty awesome in that venue.
MDNA was probably better appreciated in a venue like that since it's a little more catered to a theatrical affair. I would never do Yankee Stadium ever again. I should've done Boardwalk Hall.
You live, you learn.
It's strange...Madonna is maybe the first dance pop icon to go into her fifties and maybe even her sixties and still be a saleable item. I don't really like the way she's approaching her own aging, which is to say, she's not addressing it at all.
In contrast, Kylie Minogue released the tense "Timebomb" this year and its one of her very best singles. In it, she actually addresses...well, not just aging but death itself. She, after a brush with cancer, knows her time is limited and knows how she wants to use it.
But there's an effed-up flip-side to this: Her fans rejected "Timebomb". It was not a hit. They don't want to think about things like their adorable little Kylie taking on things like death and desperation. She's supposed to be bubbly and adorable and youthful forever.
It puts pop divas in an odd place, especially ones like Madonna who made their careers on pushing the envelope. Merely giving a performance like she used to give and being in great shape at her age isn't enough. Perhaps she should push the envelope and explode our attitudes towards age and women.
But would her fans accept it?
The great, rejected "Timebomb" in case you missed it.
Timebomb is an OK song but really its just another dance song, sounds very much like most of the other dance tracks out there. Fan's did not really reject the song, radio rejected the song here in the UK as they have done with Madge.

If you want to know who's dealing with that in an interesting way, it's the Pet Shop Boys. The new album is fantastic and even includes a song called "Ego Music" that is clearly about Madonna.
The new PSB album *is* fantastic. It reminds me in was of Behaviour (prob my fave album of theirs).
You know, Borstal I'm a massive Kylie fan, but I never thought Timebomb really had much to do with death, or her getting old, or her cancer ordeal. Back after her cancer time, she released X which had some great songs but was all over the map--and her fanbase seemed to damn her either way--either they wanted more "cancer songs" and expected them, or they wanted more frothy dance. *shrug*. However, Timebomb did well enough I thought--fans on her forums I post on seemed to love it. This sounds like Madonna defense mode, but it was probably dumb to release it digital only the same month she released a pointless greatest hits with no new recordings, but...
I dunno, honestly, as much as Kylie fans tend to worship her largely only mostly self penned album, Impossible Princess--and it is great, I'm fine with her just doing what I enjoy and don't really expect any politics from her in her music, or even deep thoughts. Still, I think refering to Timebomb as rejected is a bit hyperbole.
I love Timebomb too! The mortality element went over my head though...can't wait for the orchestral album.

Pet Shop Boys- Ego Music lyrics
Ego music, it's all about me
Ego music, it's all about me
Me,me,me,me
Yes,yes,yes,yes
You,you,you,you
No,no,no,no
Ego music, it's all about me
Me,me,me,me
Yes,yes,yes,yes
You,you,you,you
No,no,no,no
Ego music, it's all about me
Ego music, it's all about
Sense of venta climent
Sense of venta climent
Ego music, it's all about
Sense of venta climent
Sense of venta climent
I see myself as a building
My mind is the office where the world gets done
There's a nightclub in the basement when I need some fun
And in the penthouse later, that's where the magic happens
Me,me,me,me
Yes,yes,yes,yes
You,you,you,you
No,no,no,no
Ego music, it's all about me
There's a real purity to my work
A childish innocence
But I'm also smart and sophisticated
I mean I grow on the street
Sometimes I think I'm a simple folk
Other times a scary witch diva
What can I tell you, I'm an artist
And of course I always had the
Humanitarian vision
I think everyone knows that
My commitment is to my carrer
And then giving something back
Ego music, it's all about me
Vacuum slogans
And up your sentiments
Ego music, it's all about me
Fake humility ,
Stand tall than tight garments
Ego music, it's all about me
I am my own demographic
What does that say about me
Ego music, it's all about me
Me,me,me,me
Yes,yes,yes,yes
You,you,you,you
No,no,no,no
Ego music, it's all about me
Me,me,me,me
Yes,yes,yes,yes
You,you,you,you
No,no,no,no
Ego music, it's all about me
I think what fastinates people about me
And I'm really grateful to my fans
Is that I'm totally fearless
And people really get that
In the sea of negativity
I'm statue of liberty
That's why people love me
It's humbling

Clearly madonna. PSB have a fondness for madonna, always had.
From the West End Girls video standing in the movie theatre entrance showing 'Desperately Seeking Susan' posters... to the recent remix they did for 'Sorry' off of the Confessions album. and now this song.
I even remember their collaboration with Robbie WIlliams - "She's Madonna".
It's pretty cool to see this 30 year admiration and love/hate relationship.

But they like Kylie as well and have written for her
In all seriousness, they have had an interesting relationship with Madonna (even way back when, Heart was written for her, but they realized they wanted to keep it).
One reason I love the PSBoys so much, is that though some can see them as pretentious, and their lyrics are definitely some of the best in pop/dance (by far)--and yes, they know their Sondheim well, and Neil's obsession with Tolstoy, but they also love pure, ok cheesy, dance music. Their Back to Mine disc is wonderful. They love cheesy Swedish group Alcazar so gave them two great songs (as well as Girls Aloud). That's why I see no pretention there, despite how varied and smart their tastes are--and that's something I kinda find missing with Madonna when she acts like her more frivolous modern stuff is deep. (Winner, despite the Olympic stuff, was a poor first single though, IMHO, but singles don't really play a part with them anymore, anyway).
Like I said I find the album gorgeous, a bit like Behaviour. But I do kinda miss the fact it doesn't really have any stompers--but I guess we'll get those next time.

madonna permanently adds 'Holiday' to the set list now in the middle of the show before 'masterpiece'.
last night in Chicago, she replaced 'Like A Virgin' with 'Love Spent'.
A better transition, and very very touching with the choreography/corset dance.
also---MDNA album spikes up the Billboard charts and reenters the top 200. I think its at 140.
I'm sure it'll get sales spikes for the next month-
This week it ties her 'American Life' total sales
and hopefully will go Platinum by october.

I love your cockeyed optimism.
It kind of reminds me of 2005 Diana Ross press release. "The diva rocketed to the Billboard Top 150 with her latest hit album!"

You guys, you know I always insist that I will give the gal credit where it's due so here goes for today: Tonight I was walking through the natural food section at the grocery store and Madonna came on the muzak! There she was, in the mix that almost always seems to include at least one turgid Natalie Merchant dirge for inoffensive sound wallpaper whenever I am in that particular store. I actually found myself walking with a new bounce in my step each time she sang, "I've heard it all before, I've heard it all before, I've heard it all before..." Each time I replied, "Me too! Me too! Me too!". It was fun. Thanks Maddie!
Yet you still won't admit you were wrong, big time. Your last post makes me sad, I guess the grand queen really has fallen...... And I don't mean Madonna.......hugs?
