Michael J. Fox stem cell research ad

Posted: 10/23/06 at 4:52pmDid anybody else see it? I'd link to it, but it's on that site (Drudge has it linked, though). I didn't realize how badly the Parkinson's had progressed. Even sadder is the comments below the video.

And did ya see Rush "Just Call Me Neely" Limbaugh accused Fox of either going off his meds or "acting" for the commercial.
Classy!

Posted: 10/23/06 at 5:02pmthe rush slam and subsequent apology has the potential to really shake things up in some places. it's one thing to attack gays and liberals, it's another to attack someone who's suffering from a disease that attacks so many people's loved ones.

SM2, it is OK to attack gays in the political world, unfortunate as it is.
MrMidwest -- yes. On you-know-where. Go to Drudge and it's linked from there.
#12michael j. fox still isn't gay so he's exempt from attack, dammit

I must confess, papa, I've often fantasized about your "whompin' stick"... and of being "whacked" by it.

It's so sad to see and so brave of him to have done it.
Rush Limbaugh has no idea what the word compassion means.
I hope he loses lots of followers over this.

"not only am i saying it's ok, i personally bash at least 7-10 of the gays a day."
He hit me. And it felt like a kiss.
Recently, on a road trip, I found myself at a state fair. And what should we find ourselves watching but a police dog exhibition featuring five dogs and approximately eight state troopers all struttin' around like they'd had a double order of Chef-Manardee Testosteroni for lunch.
So they get to the drug sniffing German Shepard and they have three suitcases. They kept referencing that one suitcase "must belong to Ozzy Osbourne." Because that's the level of wit that passes as a punchline with a certain cohort.
So the dog gets all aroused at that suitcase and the cop opens it and pulls out a ziploc bag of pills. "Oh look," he said as he walked around the exhbition ring and right when he got in front of me he said, "he found Ozzy Osbourne's suitcase." I said loud enough for him to hear, "Looks more like Rush Limbaugh's." The cop seemed a little startled, lost his place, and yes, I laughed at him. I did.

I was going to post a thread about this but I'll join in condemning utterly this sick statement by Limbaugh.
There is no way Fox is faking those movements. They are not symptoms but side-effects of the medication, and are completely uncontrollable. I know about this at first hand because I have been living with Parkinson's for eleven years. I gave up my career as a Musical Director in the West End and Germany and now compose full time as I cannot play the piano like I could. I am fortunate that my symptoms are mild - my hands are shaking as I write but otherwise I am fit and well, although I sleep very badly.
It is the most frustrating condition you can imagine. At its worst it feels like being encased in steel, unable to move freely, or at other times you feel shaky and like an old person.
I admire Fox enormously for his active work and pray that the politicians will listen to the many sane voices calling for more research with ethical boundaries being in place. We don't want to destroy embryos, just to know what it feels to move freely again and to be able to walk, talk, eat and sleep properly.
Never take good health for granted. It is precious.

I have adored Michael J. Fox practically since I was born. He is such an incredible man, and I really hope that he can make a difference in the stem cell research debate. I haven't seen the ad, but once I get home from school I'll have to check it out.
Somehow it doesn't surprise me that Rush Limbaugh is being such an ass. It infuriates me, but it doesn't suprrise me. How can one person be so full of contempt?

#23re: Michael J. Fox stem cell research ad
