I'm not even a big fan of the film OLIVER!; but it's only about a billion times better than anything else that was nominated, and especially 2001, which wasn't and didn't deserve to be.

I detest Forrest Gump. Hateful, ultra right wing claptrap.
OOOOOOOOOh...I'm hoping on the FORREST GUMP Hate Train! Everything thing is honky-dory if you're white and a male! You can even be a semi-retard...cause we'll always find someone dumber than you. And you can be sure he'll be black!
I think OLIVER! is a spectacular film. One of my all-time favorite movie musicals. Watching 2001 was like watching beige paint dry on a piece of sheetrock.
FUNNY GIRL is so rotten to me, that it shouldn't have been released, let alone won an Oscar.
CM2, you need to turn in your membership card immediately.
Seriously, it's poorly acted, poorly filmed, boring...
You are not a Streisand fan from your other posts. I think it is one of the better films based on a Broadway show.
"Watching 2001 was like watching beige paint dry on a piece of sheetrock."
Oh, so you liked it, too? I'm telling you, there's no greater feast for the senses than watching beige paint dry. And don't get me started on ecru and Glidden's Prairie Mist. Oh, rapture!
Well...Let me tell you...I painted my living room a beige shade known as Fawn. It was a thrilling drying process!!! I was reduced to tears!
Seriously, it's poorly acted, poorly filmed, boring...
I have to disagree with you on that, especially on the acting. Keir Dullea was very good in that.
I was talking about FUNNY GIRL. I would never say that 2001 was poorly filmed or acted; just boring as dirt!
Ahh, the old Forrest Gump debate! LOL that was a fun thread...anyway, i'm putting Forrest Gump as the MOST deserving, because it was just an increadible film even if people see right-wing stuff that isn't there. LEAST deserving...i'm gonna go with Lord of the Rings, HIGHLY overrated.
I agree EverythingIsRent... I must have missed all that right wing propaganda...
CM2 - You are absolutely correct! It is from the short-lived Logan's Run TV series.
I can understand why people might think 2001 was boring, but I was riveted from beginning to end. Loved it.
JohnPopa - I didn't care for Chariots of Fire the first time I saw it, but now I love it. The most boring Oscar Winner I've seen has to be Out of Africa (followed closely by The English Patient). I can't understand why anyone likes Out of Africa other than those who think anything with Meryl Streep must be revered. The film bores me to tears and I really don't like her character at all. And yet another Streep accent. Ugh.
Have to vote for Forrest Gump as the least deserving winner. Because it is insipid. I would also like Tom Hanks to give his back as well...
Most deserving that didnt win in my opinion is The Exorcist.
Agree with you Mister Matt re: THE ENGLISH PATIENT and OUT OF AFRICA. Uber-boring!
Margo, at some point I think we were joined at the hip. If anyone is interested in the "right-wing crap that isn't there" , let me know.
FG is an indictment of the Hippie era, and makes a hero out of the ultimate conformist. (which was actually done before with more wit and artistry in Zelig.)
The English Patient is, however, my choice for least deserving.
All Quiet On the Western Front is the most.

No, I'm not a huge AB fan either...
Kringas, you think Kramer vs. Kramer is better than Apocalypse Now or All That Jazz?

I don't feel that Chicago deserved it. Not in a year when Adaptation was released.

Dammit. I forgot All That Jazz was nominated that year. Grr..
I dunno. I think I'll still stand by it. ATJ is one of my personal favorites and, while I'm not a huge fan of AN, I can appreciate that it was a very well made film. There's just something about K v K, probably the gut reaction that invokes in me personally, that makes think it deserved its Oscar.

Cruel_Sandwich, I was highly disappointed in Adapatation. I thought it had a steller cast and I loved the idea for it, but when I saw it I was left a little cold. It may have been one of those cases where I had heard too much hype by the time I saw it, but I just didn't find it to be best picture material.

Ahh. Different strokes, I suppose. Have you seen Eternal Sunshine, though? That's probably Kaufman's most accesible.

Yes! It's one of my favorites.
I'm surprised how many people hate American Beauty - I loved that movie - one of my all time favorites
