Well, I hope Granny recovers and you all have a wonderful and long life together.
But I have to say that your story about the "local healer" curing a person who was turning black (my what a horror, I am so glad he turned white again) by way of a prayer circle is a bunch of hooey. So he was MINUTES away from death and was instantly healed and the hospital just released him? Just like that? No tests? No observation period? No follow up? Come on, you don't really believe that story, do you?
Prayer will do nothing except help YOU feel better.

The only difference between closed-minded athiests and terorists are that the terrorists have weapons.
Many of the doctors who have examined people who've been healed are top experts; not run-of-the-mill physicians. Many, many people at crusades have risen out of wheelchairs after being confined for, say, 30 years; serious, life-threatening cancer has been removed, people who have trouble walking are instantly healed on stage after the preacher prays over them; etc. You have no hard proof; I have no hard proof; so the question here is what's more likely. There is no question that a higher power is at work here; is totally curing a patient instantly from a 40 year upside down heart because of God or some medical explanation we have yet to discover?
Neither of us know the ultimate answer; we just have faith in different things.
And people "do" start turning a different color when they're extremely sick. And I never said that they didn't run tests. The hospital was like a few hours away, so they could have done stuff during that time.
In my opinion, prayer works pretty much like a placebo. If you truly believe in its power, chances are you can make yourself "feel" that you are being healed by it.

And terrorists are almost always religious.

Re-read my previous post :). Prayers do work; I've witnessed it. And that guy was cured by praying ... top experts even gave up on his life.
And terrorists have a warped/twisted view of religion; Islam and Christianity are very peaceful religions which do not promote the killing of innocent people. Many religous people do believe that terrorists go to Hell.
I'm not calling you a liar, but it's hard for me to chalk up his "instant recovery" to divine intervention. It's like I tell people who believe in ghosts or think they've encountered one: "You saw something and maybe it was and maybe it wasn't. However, it's never happened to me personally, so I can't vouch for its existence."
"The only difference between closed-minded atheists and terrorists are that the terrorists have weapons." ???
Are you fVcking kidding me? You are a crazy disturbed person who needs desperate help. And not from "God".
Could you please provide specific examples, and no "some guy" and someone who "say 30 years" is not specific. You are going on what some "healer" told you in some prayer group between your donuts and Kool-aid. Brainwashing cults are really closer to terrorists than atheists, if you ask me. And beware of that Kool-aid.

Awesome; at least you're open-minded :)
Just because things "sound" impossible doesn't make it so. Like this healer dude prayed over my spine and now my back is stright. I am disabled (as y'all know by now), and my spine had been bent over practically my entire life; I'd hunch whenever I walked.

sueleen, I've been to crusades and seen crusades on tv and witnessed hundreds of miraculous healings, so that stuff is real. If you can't respond to that, don't bother responding. I have evidence; you don't have anything. The terrorists are totally closed-minded and won't accept other beliefs. So, they kill anybody who doesn't share their twisted faith.
Ah, you got me. For a minute there I thought you were serious. Very funny. Are you RTFan?

huh?
Personally, I've always seen God as the creator of nature, and consequently, the laws of nature. I imagine that He works within His own laws. So I see no reason that these miracle healings can't be something that could someday be medically diagnosed. Just because we don't know about it doesn't mean it can't happen, and just because we don't have an explanation for something, doesn't mean there isn't one.

I've always been open-minded and totally agree with you.
Yeah, but are you guys open-minded enough to consider that there may not be anything there at all and that the Bible is just mythology, for all we know?

Yes ... there is no hard proof of anything.
But, there is very, very strong circumstantial evidence.
As I said, none of us knows fot sure the ultimate truth.
Thus, faith is the core of religion.

What in G/d's name has this thread come to?
From a grandmother having a stroke to the debate of prayer to terrorism...
WoW.
At least we didn't stray too far from the original topic.

I know; I was hoping it wouldn't, but cannot stand closed-minded people.
And yes, faith is the core of religion.
And for all those who have offered your prayers and I had not yet responded to those posts, thank you so much :)
I really hope your grandmother feels better.
my thoughts and prayers are with you. I know what it's like to have a loved one who is ill. I hope she has a speedy recovery and sees many more bright days.

Thanks so very much ... she is in such great health and perfect shape; 100x better off than most other people her age. Hopefully, she'll be around for a while longer, even if her abilities are limited.
I almost forgot, I wish your grandmother the very best.

Tmmfan, the key phrase you used to describe these magical healings is "on stage."
Don't be a chump. These "top doctors" are who, exactly?
And this whole business of the "upside down heart" is laughable. It's a metaphor, you're being hoodwinked.
