I do great work with an ass on my head.
Sueleen- I do get what you are saying- Namo too. Believe me, I have tried to look at both sides of this. I have already started helping him memorize his script (in between the other 2 scenes he has to do for class and thespian competition-Shadowbox and A Hatful of Rain). I too thought this is a school production- why does he have to go so far- my son has thick, dark hair. My son is very intelligent- straight A's in all honors classes. I truly believe he got this role because of his tremendous imagination, responsibility, and dedication. He is always on time and never misses school. He does his homework without me even telling him. He's also a phenomenal guitarist! He's not a Stepford child- just very responsible. This is a very hard show to carry and is an honor. Still, I wish he would just have to shave his hair close- not bald. I also think my son is smart enough not to let this be a casting couch situation. His school is a highly respected performing arts school because I don't know of too many "regular" high schools doing theatre of the absurd. I will support him in whatever he has to do for this part. To me, he is showing a lot of maturity in his commitment. This play will bring so much out of him. Thanks for your input as it is greatly appreciated. Oh, and thanks to you, I can't get "Hot Lunch" out of my head! Now I'm going to have Debbie Allen in my dreams! mom

I can't breathe . . .
At least I'll die with a smile on my face.
Sorry, didn't mean to kill the thread.
So, mom, what other roles has your son done?
Sueleen- he was the lead in a play called "High Tide" and also in "Painted Rain". Also had a small part in "On with the Shrew". He hates musicals so he's never been in one. He went to a performing arts middle school that only did plays in the spring and musicals in the fall. Like I said, he is a sophomore now. At his school, there is a hierarchy in that seniors usually get cast first, then juniors, etc. That's why it's an honor to get a lead as a sophomore. When he's not on stage, the theatre kids are expected to be on crews for the shows. He just got off a deck crew for the fall drama. It seems that the shows his middle school and high school have been doing are very small casts. That's why the opprotunities are so slim. We don't have time to do community theatre so all the experience is at school right now. Thankfully, the school is competitive so when you get a role- it really means a lot. Thanks for asking! mom

Congratulations, mom.
Wonderful news. Congratulations to your son, mom!
I played bald in high school. I was Mr. Thorkelson in 'I Remember Mama' and I soaped my hair down for every show. It's something I will NEVER do again, and If I knew then, what I know now, I would have just shaved my head.
Hair grows back. Besides, EVERYONE is going to want to come and see the show after he tells them that he shaved his head for the part.
He'll be type cast for decades and be touring with Annie until he's 40, once John Shuck finally gives up the role.
if he goes bald there is a 62.571% chance that he'll be targeted as a skinhead and killed by a progressive hit squad bent on saving minorites from assault by baldies.

Yes, practically almost too good to be true! I hope they don't crash and burn like Marie Osmond's kid.
papa, as long as he doesn't wear white shoelaces in his Doc Martens (the sign of racist skinheads), nobody's going to target him.
In fact: In Bergen County, a socialist skinhead's bid for Congress last November [1995] won an endorsement from the National Organization for Women and support from some members of the Gray Panthers, garnering about 1 percent of the vote.
Mom- Congratulations !!

So the only reason I have this picture avail;able is because I've spent this last week scanning in every pictures and clipping I've been saving for all of these years. Now I can throw out all of the boxes of stuff and just burn them onto CD's.
Anyway, this was a picture from my local paper. Me with my hair soaped out (and looking like a bald 12 year old.
For some reason I can't post this picture in the thread.

"The bad news is- he has to shave his head for the part-"
My suggestion is that while you are shaving his head, you put on the OBC of "A Chorus Line" and play "What I Did for Love". Only Priscilla Lopez can get him through something like this.
Oh Lord,Diva, that makes me wince just looking at it. Not only did you have to go through the AGONY of soaping your hair, but it STILL looked crappy!
Gosh, did we really think people would believe we were old men when we did crap like that?
I had braces when I played Charlie Anderson in Shenadoah...think I fooled anyone?!

Congratulations and best wishes to your son, supportivemom!
I'll have to find the pictures of when we did 'The Effect Of Gamma Rays..." and I turned a freshman into a senior citizen.
At least there I was using prosthetics.

Not bad, YoungTD. You look like Andy Warhol in Golden Girls glasses.
BEFORE he started wearing those awful wigs?
I think that was my Junior year in HS.
