I can see the point of boycotting the Olympics, but I doubt it will happen. I do think that gay athletes should agitate loud and clear to the IOC and their respective governments to demand protection during their participation in the games. There does need to be a clear statement from the IOC on this matter, and they've really been ducking it, haven't they.

I did like what Weir wrote about the human cost of the Olympic boycott, and it did make me think twice about supporting such a thing. I'm fine with boycotting any and all Russian products from here on out (I reserve the right to continue to enjoy Tarkovsky Eisenstein Prokofiev and Tolstoy).

I don't think there'll be an official U.S. boycott of the Olympics, but I do think there needs to be an official demand for protection by gay athletes. Lives are in danger here. And if lives are in danger, maybe a boycott really is the way to go. There's no easy answer to this.

But I do believe that the IOC and the U.S. Government really need to issue some kind of statement about the safety of gay athletes during the Games.

Yes! as we suspect many athletes are gay, and they have been practicing and training and sacrificing for years, some for most of there lives. it would be ashame if they were friendlyfired. boycotts, protests are better
