Here we go my dear fellow movie fans!!
I love all the back and forth we share on this board about films.
Really hoping for Beasts of the Southern Wild to score a picture nom.

They are hilarious. This is great.

Bigelow, Affleck, and Hooper were all left out.
David O Russel, Haneke, and Zeitlin (Beasts) were nominated with Spielberg and Ang Lee.
And there were 9 films nominated for best picture.

And don't forget Tarantino being left out, too.
I fucxing HATE that they only nominate 9.
And no John Hawkes, no screenplay nom for Anderson, but I am over the moon about Jacki Weaver.

No Bigelow really surprises me. Ditto no DiCaprio.
Like Growl, very happy for Jacki Weaver.

Posted: 1/10/13 at 8:55amI don't think Hooper or Bigelow deserved a nomination this year. Would have liked to see Tarantino get a nod for Django.

I have no problem with Russell, Zeitlin, or Haneke (finally!) getting nominated. Ang Lee, however, over Bigelow is nuts. We might seriously have a DGA awards where it has no effect because the winner was not nominated. And ZD30 will not get the Best Picture award where Kathryn does have a nomination credit. Also Affleck not getting a director nomination is fascinating because the 'controversy' was pretty minimal with Argo compared to ZD30 and he was considered the front-runner for winner.
I guess Jacki Weaver for SLP is a surprise but hey, she also had a surprise for her great role in Animal Kingdom.

Not necessarily. DRIVING MISS DAISY won without Beresford getting a nomination. Although I would definitely say it doesn't look like the strong contender it did a month ago.

Posted: 1/10/13 at 8:58amI hate that Waltz got a supporting nom for a lead role. Would much rather have seen DiCaprio, Samuel Jackson, or Eddie Redmayne get a deserved nom. And as I've said on other threads, I don't get all the love for Arkin.

I'm calling LINCOLN for the big wins -- Picture, Director and Actor. No surprise, no doubt. After last year's charming effervescent piece of pure life-affirming joy, we'll get Spielberg's ponderous leaden piece of flag-waving AMERICANOSITY.
And if that's any indication of what Seth McFarland is going to do as Oscar host, I fear for my TV's safety. Someone please stop him.

Tarantino got a nom for screenplay though, Eric.
Happy for Weaver, and Wallis.
You can tell it was one of those years when voters had clear favorites. A lot of the films (like Pi, Linings, Beasts) got several noms even in categories where they weren't necessarily the best.
Anyone have a tally by number of noms per film yet?

strummer, sorry, I should have been clearer. I’m typing quickly and making critical omissions. I meant PT Anderson for “The Master.” Regardless of whether people think it’s deserved or not (though I happen to think it is) I’m surprised he wasn’t nominated, like the Woody Allen thing, where his writing is recognized even when his movies are not.

Oh, I got you, growl. Also Jonny Greenwood's excellent score and Mihai Malaimare Jr.'s cinematography got ignored.
I'm pausing at Amour having a big night and McFarlane only being able to make references to Nazis and Hitler (French film but a Austria-Germany co-production). He did already at the announcement.

taz, where'd you pull those lists that you posted from?
You got a couple of weird things in there, like "Best Exotic..." up for BP and Hawkes over Phoenix in Best Actor.
