The primary definition of married is "being in the state of matrimony". The second definition is "united, joined."

The definition of matrimony specifically references the union of a man and a woman.

But, the dictionary I have is old, and perhaps these definitions have been updated.

And PRS - if they really wanted to be traditional, they would still be Jewish.

And, despite having said what I said, if there was no DOMA and I could enter into a civil union and have the government recognize it (that's the key in my circumstances), I would do it in a heartbeat.

Shames, no worries.

I am more curious because I am more of an observer in all of this. It is ironic that I could got to Vegas, get drunk, and marry and schmo, but friends who have been in long-term, committed relationships cannot marry the person the love. That is just wrong to me on a basic, fundamental level.

I also have a big thing for separation of church and state, and think there should be a distinction between civil ceremonies and laws that grant couples rights as part of a union recognized by the state (as in federal and state benefits/rights ...) and religious ceremonies that are a religious blessing the unions.

But, since I am not the one facing the discrimination, I was just trying to determine the reaction to the scenario.

I am all for Prop 8 being overturned. So, you are confused. VERY confused.

I simply can not agree with all of your efforts to slant the facts and to ignore the truth on both sides.

I love her dispassionate reasoning. I wish more non-religious-right conservatives would take that approach. I almost wish she had avoided that 'right side of history' closing. There are better reasons to support this cause.

An aside to Reg: if we register at Bed, Bath and Beyond, we'll have three times as many towels. Also, we need a flyswatter. There's been a buzzing sound around here lately. It almost sounds like it's saying "I'm a dissolving demonstrator" or "I'm a disgusted demolition". Maybe "An authoritative autocrat" I'm not sure - weird sounds that don't make sense. Anyway, strange sounds like a fly banging itself to death against a window.
