President Dwayne Johnson?

So last night, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson "teased" a 2020 presidential bid alongside Tom Hanks on Saturday Night Live.

Now I'm quite sure he was only kidding. But let's just say, for discussion's sake, that he wasn't. What would you think?

Personally, I wouldn't mind hearing more of his thoughts on things, as long as he doesn't get crazy. Maybe I'm in the realm of "He can't be worse than Trump," but what do you all think? If Johnson was really serious, and ran for President, would you listen to what he has to say?

He should pick Vin Diesel as his running mate. We should do away with presidential debates and have posedowns instead. Who doesn't think it's about time we had a really strong president who could put a figure 4 leglock and a sleeper hold on terrorism. He would bodyslam his opponents in the primary and suplex his challengers in the general election. Vince McMahon could be his Secretary of State and John Cena the Secretary of Defense. Ric Flair for National Security Adviser.... Woooooooooo!!! And of course... Mean Gene Okerlund for Press Secretary who could host the interviews... "Mr. President, you're going against Angela Merkel this Saturday at the War Memorial in a Falls Count Anywhere, No Holds Barred, Fans Bring the Weapons Deathmatch. We know she's a tough customer. What do you have to say to your fans?"

It will take a celebrity to beat Donald Trump (if he makes it to 2020 without being forced to resign).

It will take a celebrity with greater celebrity status than Trump possesses.

No mere politician will be able to defeat Trump. Trump has murdered politics.

I would rather have Oprah but I would vote for the Rock.

Discussion purposes. 90% of the threads I start are purely meant to spark some discussion.



Obviously, but why do you think a discussion needed to occur on this? It's screamingly obvious it was done in jest to get laughs and hopefully go viral as part of a late night comedy show. More than likely, the whole thing was written by one of their writers as one of several alternatives for his monologue. I could start a thread "pigs can't understand English but if they could, what Broadway shows do you think they'd enjoy most?" but what's the point? It's not going to happen. You're asking people to invest time in responding. At least make it a topic about something that's been announced or has even some minor chance of happening. Otherwise, you're just sparking discussions for the sake of people having a discussion. It's certainly your right to do that and I'm not trying to be overly harsh but I've never understood the point. But then, I've also never understood people spending time on the endless stream of dreamcasting threads about shows that no one's discussed happening and have no chance of being made in the foreseeable future. But some seem to enjoy it. Maybe it's me.

The Rock for president has been a meme for quite some time, and Johnson has mentioned it several times in the past. True, it's only a meme for now, but so was Trump for president a few years ago.

Looking at it realistically, Johnson appears to be a staunch centrist with possible conservative leanings- he's pro military (whatever that means today), and his alleged conservatism may be lip service to his WWE ties. Nonetheless, he's had no scandals, no really questionable statements or beliefs; everyone who meets him seems to come away impressed by his generosity, work ethic and "more poise, less noise" decency. When's the last time you could say that about ANY major republican candidate?

darquegk is right. Dwayne has stated to the press a couple of times recently he was toying with the idea of running in 2020. The monologue was playing up to that, also playing with the cat and mouse games politicians always engage in when they are asked if they are running or not. Remember Hillary Clinton. Joe Biden?

Also, he does have a very strong work ethic and is quite brilliant.

At least it appears he's smart enough to know his first political job shouldn't be president. If only more Americans were that intelligent...

Generally, Americans love to elect celebrities and as we've recently seen, being a celebrity is really all you need in order to be elected to any office. So, if any celebrity wants to jump in and play President, the door has already been opened to that as a reality.
