Thank you, all, for your kind words and loving memories about my dear cousin Mark. It's comforting to our family to know he touched so many lives with his art and soul. It's clear, too, that his loving family extended well beyond the biological. Thank you for loving him, too, as your lovely tributes attest. May we continue to be inspired and warmed by his beautiful, gentle spirit.

I'm sad to hear about this. I didn't know Glebb very well nor met him, but we did have a few interactions on the off-topic board and a couple PM exchanges. He was a sweetheart to me, and what I admired about him was his positive attitude. I will remember fondly his penchant for mermaids.
Incidentally, he showed me how to post links/images, which is something I do regularly and still do it the way he taught me.

I'm saddened by this news. I only conversed with him a few times in various threads but I remember he was very friendly and kind.

"A part of the Joffrey repertoire since 1977, the piece always has been handsomely danced, but now it has improved in dramatic style, as well. Mark Goldweber has made the 'blue skater' very much his role, capping his execution of its inhuman technical requirements with a final bravura display that sees him spinning nonstop as the curtain comes down, then up and then down again for the final time."

Such wonderful photos and videos! Mark left a great legacy in his work, but more importantly, he left a great legacy in the way he lived. He was kind, warm, engaging and always smiling.
Mark always wrote beautiful memorials on this board whenever a dancer he knew passed away. It was always clear that he had as much affection for the individual as he had admiration for their body of work. Sadly, it's time to do the same for him.
I hope Rudolf Nureyev was there to meet him at the Pearly Gates!

Although it has happened a few times in my life, it is not often that I am immobilized by the news of someone's passing. This is one of those times.
Mark was one of the most beautiful people I have ever known (that doesn't happen often either!)
I, too, have so many memories of him...all good. He was one of the most supportive and encouraging people in my daughter's life. I remember his commenting on a photo of her in dance class: "She looks like a ballet dancer." To the mother of a child with disabilities who was not expected to walk, Mark's word were a symphony. He always went out of his way for Rosemary, which is not surprising because he was wonderful with young people. Then again, EVERYONE loved Mark.
When I was turning 50, I thought it was a sentence. On that fateful day, Mark took us out for dinner at the Kennedy Center just before Ballet West performed "Serenade." I had been dreading that day for so long, but I remember sitting there and thinking, "I am the most fortunate person on earth." And that was because of Mark.
Afterwards, we went shopping together at the Kennedy Center shops. We joked and laughed about so many things and then hugged and kissed goodbye. I never would have imagined that it was the last time I would see him in person.
On my FB page, I posted the photo above. It was taken when the Joffrey did the Nutcracker at the Kennedy Center. Mark took us backstage, which was great fun for all of us, but especially my daughter, who was 10 at the time. Mark kept prompting her to actually feel the costumes and props. When I looked at the pictures of Mark I have and the times we spent together, this is the one that spoke to me loudest.
It's my daughter doing as Mark told her: touching the wings of an angel. I think it summarizes my thoughts about Mark perfectly.

Mark was such a kind and gentle soul, always upbeat, and I so enjoyed chatting with him online. Such a gentleman, such an artist....the world truly has lost something special. RIP, sweet man.
It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story...

I had been chatting with Mark for years on this board. He was such a wonderful person and not only loved to chat about live theater, but was also an incredible listener.
Like DottieD'Luscia, I first met Mark on July 2, 2006, at the closing performance of THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, where I found that everything I had learned and known about him, was wrapped into this wonderful package of goodness. He was the type of person that you can meet and instantly become friends. Such a kind soul.
In 2007, I went to Chicago on business and Mark and I went to go see WICKED together. His friend, Barbara Robertson, was playing Madame Morrible, and he invited the two of us back to his place after the show for a quick bite and to see his dog, Tanny. He was so hospitable and so gracious and I will never forget that time I spent with him.
We chatted through PMs many many times after that, but I didn't get to see him again after he had moved to Utah. I am grateful to have known him and cherish the good times we had.
Rest in peace, Mark. You were taken from us way too soon. We love you and miss you dearly.

i read about this on facebook and had to read it here to in order to believe it. this is so sad. he was such a genuinely nice person.

Years and years ago, Glebb posted a photo on my birthday with a tiny baby puppy Benny holding a "Happy Birthday DGG!" sign in his tiny crossed paws. I've kept in contact with him for years, and hearing the news today was crushing. I've followed his life from afar and marveled at his accomplishments. I've admired and loved his pups; how he cared for them and treated them as his family. My heart is broken today, thinking of those lovely dogs missing their dad, and of the ballet dancers of the future who will never know Mark's amazing tutelage. I just can't feel right today, knowing he's gone. I'm shocked and upset and regretful that I never said goodbye. You will be missed, Glebby.

So sad to hear this news, but the fact that he touched so many lives is a testament to his spirit. He will be greatly missed and often celebrated.
