That Daily Mail article linked earlier said that her parents were contacted and that's why they outed her. It also talks about how the NAACP deliberately didn't do much of a background check because they didn't want to deter qualified applicants who might be disqualified by a criminal past.

As for her being mentally ill, sure, there's likely something off here.

The NAACP has issued a statement.

Baltimore, MD – For 106 years, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has held a long and proud tradition of receiving support from people of all faiths, races, colors and creeds. NAACP Spokane Washington Branch President Rachel Dolezal is enduring a legal issue with her family, and we respect her privacy in this matter. One’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership. The NAACP Alaska-Oregon-Washington State Conference stands behind Ms. Dolezal’s advocacy record. In every corner of this country, the NAACP remains committed to securing political, educational, and economic justice for all people, and we encourage Americans of all stripes to become members and serve as leaders in our organization.

Hate language sent through mail and social media along with credible threats continue to be a serious issue for our units in the Pacific Northwest and across the nation. We take all threats seriously and encourage the FBI and the Department of Justice to fully investigate each occurrence.

I have hired many many people and we do not ask to see detailed birth certificates or require a biblical list of "begats" to explain an applicant's bloodlines.

Didn't Armistead Maupin cover this way back in the 1970s in one of the Tales of the City books? Get some new material!

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Remember Ben Jealous, former CEO and President of the NAACP at the national level? I understand why Dolezal could have gone about her business without being questioned.

"^^^^ NO.
This framing of this thread rejects that as a narrative stream. I would suggest you start your own victim-blaming thread about the NAACP coming from the point of view of someone who "is involved with them on some level."

No right back at you. You don't get to tell me how I need to express myself on a public internet forum, Namo.

She was wrong for what she did, but the NAACP should have vetted her properly therefore avoiding this. It's downright embarrassing.

How do you vet someone race?

I've hired people too and I've never thought to check to see if their telling the truth about what ethnicity they checked off on their application.

And ultimately what the NAACP seems to be saying in their statement is that it doesn't really matter to them what her race is. It's the work that's important. I respect them for that response.

Not to say what this women did isn't bonkers. But it's hard for me to see how the NAACP can be at fault for this.

By the way, her cover wasn't blown by her parents. She herself claimed eight hate crimes against herself and in the investigation of hate crimes her real parents were investigated. She accidentally outed herself.

Below is an interview where she gets busted at the end.

They're not, but there's always somebody who wants to use something like this against organizations like that. ALWAYS.

Excellently said. Every word.

This is tricky because they believed her when she told them that she was black. They didn't think twice to check because they felt no reason to.

The issue isn't that she's white but that she lied about being black.

So how does one go about preventing this from happening again?

I never said I knew better Namo so get off my jock.

All I told you was that you don't get to tell me how to express myself on a public internet forum.

And when I suggested vetting I never said or indicated it should have been for race. If they would have vetted her under any other circumstances within that process they may have found out she was Caucasian.

Namo get off my jock. You're like a little bitch who doesn't get his way and when someone doesn't kiss your virtual ass you get all bent out of shape and become the message board bully. That sh*t doesn't work with me. You never have and you never will intimidate me.

I can't think of a place I'd rather be less than on your jock Carlos, virtual or otherwise. Nor do I care about ass kissing.

It is nice to watch you suggest that somehow this is the NAACP's fault and that they should have found some magical and non-existent legal way to "vet" her And I see I was wrong to try to head off unintelligent contributions to the discussion at the pass as I did. You have every right to claim space to demonstrate your intellect.
