I love seeing how little songs were different for other people.
Miss Lucy had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell
Miss Lucy went to heaven, the steamboat went to
Hello, operator, please give me number nine
And if you disconnect me, I'll cut off your
Behind the refrigerator, there was a piece of glass
Miss Lucy sat upon it, and broke her little
Ask me no more questions, I'll tell you no more lies
The boys are in the ladies' room, zipping up their
Flies are in the meadow, the bees are in their hives
Miss Lucy's in the teacher's room, kissing in the
D-A-R-K, D-A-R-K, dark, dark, dark
The dark is like a movie, the movie's like a show
The show is like a the-a-tre and that is all
I know I know my ma, I know I know my pa
I know I know my sister with her 48-inch bra!
Most of that didn't make sense. I'm surprised I remembered so much, haha. I like how parts of it don't rhyme, either...I'm sure it was like a big game of Telephone, constantly being rewritten.
I remember having no idea what "boys are in the ladies' room, zipping up their flies" meant. I wasn't even sure what a fly was.

I also remember "party lines" - we had one when I was little and we lived in the city. It was an option when we moved to the suburbs and my mother swore she'd never share a phone line again so we paid extra for a private line.

We had a milk man where I used to live. This was the late 1980s. We had a metal box on the front porch. Then when we moved, I didn't understand why we didn't have someone deliver it anymore.

We used to have an old man come and sell my mother Watkins products. My mother always bought a bottle of vanilla and sometimes some cleaning products. The salesman used to give us kids these little red candies in plastic wrap.

All we had was the Avon lady.
(and the Jehovah's Witnesses, but my mom made us turn off the lights and shut up when they were coming down the street)

Once of those clapping games...
Miss Mary Mac, Mac, Mac
All dressed in black, black, black
With silver buttons, buttons, buttons
All down her back, back, back
She asked her mother, mother, mother
For fifty cents, cents, cents
To see the elephants, elephants, elephants
Jump over the fence, fence, fence
They jumped so high, high, high
They touched the sky, sky, sky
And they didn't come back, back, back
Till the fourth of July, July, July
Also remember doing cats cradle with an elastic or string loop on the school bus.
Friendship pins on my sneakers
Ribbon barrettes that you wove up yourself (Goody made a little kit)
Getting Atari and thinking I was one BAMF!

We had Atari AND Coleco, bay-bee!
My oldest sis, who had already married and moved out by then, just had Intellivision. Ha ha. That sucked. Except it was the only one that had Burger Time.

I remember my dad's office phone - the rotary dial with the one red hold button and the 4 clear line buttons at the bottom. I used to love going to his office and pretending to be a secretary, answering lines and putting people on hold...

NYadGal--Finally some one else who played with Tiddly Winks! I loved that game.
Remember when girls wore clogs and everyone had a metal lunchbox with a thermos? Also sticker books. You were considered 'cool' if you had the hologram or the googley-eyed ones.

I did too, middy.
I got through all the levels seven times, but by then, even the fried eggs were moving too fast to get away from.

I wore O de London. It was advertised on The Monkees. I would have DRUNK it if I thought it would get me a Monkee.

Remember when the TV season started in September and ended in May/June (like school), with new episodes every week?

We also had a TV repair man come to the house, once or twice a year.
His name was Louis. ("Everybody loves Louis!")
Back in the days when TV tubes used to blow out and have to be replaced. He would also "demagnetize" the TV set. I was fascinated with all his gadgets.
God, it's a wonder we're not all radioactive.

"Remember when TV was broadcast "in living color?"
Besty, I remember we had a black and white tv. When color tvs came out, I would stare at our black and white screen and swear I saw a hint of color coming through!

Oh yeah, I remember that! They played the Star Spangled Banner at the end of the broadcasting day, then you had a test pattern on the screen until the next day.
