"Report" and "Reply" look similar in the links

I've already accidentally thought I was hitting REPLY and got the REPORT. Maybe there's a different word or phrase?

I've done it three times already! Not reported, but accidentally opened the report window. Maybe instead of "report message" it could say something like "no go tell"?

I think "I'm telling!" is short and simple and to the point

I'm confused by the implication that one would have "reported" someone for saying something bad about an actor in a show. Like, I think BWW only cares is we are abusing each other, no? Like, I would report Namo if he says bad things about me, but not Bono, since Bono is not a member of BWW (as far as we know)?! In which case, I'm losing the connection between "Report message" and the Patti thing...

That's PATTI's confusion and nobody else's. She sucked up to Rob as if she had anything to do with it, when the moderator post specifically said they've been working on it since long before she tried to cast the #shroudofmurin over this place.

1. She called us Muggles

2. She called for us to be sent elsewhere.

I mean, I don't like to cry racism, but I do like to dog whistle.

Thanks Namo... We tweaked the wording this morning from 'report message' to 'report to mods' so it should be visually more different to the eye, I think/hope.

Are we allowed to talk about it over here or is this thread going to get locked, too?

I know Rob avoids getting too deeply involved in board controversies, but having just plowed through those 11 pages, I’m both surprised and saddened by his incredibly bad -- almost Trumpian -- judgment in locking it down.

The thread on the main board was closed because overnight it devolved into some vulgar posts, infighting between posters and inappropriate language. We had to remove those posts this morning, as per our (unchanged) guidelines. I think posters here should know by now, that I/we believe strongly in free speech, and expression which is why we have often not moderated with as heavy of a hand as we could have. As long as it stays clean and respectful of our rules, all posts and opinions are welcome.

On a personal note, I loved many of the messages that explained what posters (and I) find are some of the wonderful parts of the community here, which I'm proud to have created.

So, posts in violation were deleted. That’s reasonable. But isn’t the existence of that feature more of a reason to allow the thread as a whole to move on? Some excellent and enlightening discussion was happening, and locking the thread ends the useful part of the conversation. There’s moderation, and then there’s suffocation.

I think they we're allowing a pretty wide berth as to what constitutes a personal attack, at least when it comes to talking about a minor Broadway actor's Twitter, but okay.

I'm glad everything Dave19 has posted continues to see the light of day, though.

The last couple of pages of messages that we had to remove didn't indicate (to me) that there was more new opinions to be shared in there, but ... I appreciate your feedback, and we will take that into consideration re: keeping it open.

I cut out of that thread for bed at around midnight, so I can't attest to anything after that point.

But deleting offending posts and then locking the topic has left an engaging-looking thread that absolutely no one can contribute to.

Frankly, a lack of new ground to break on a topic isn't a good reason to lock a thread and this reads more like an attempt to bury a controversial thread. And since the topic of the thread is now referenced in a stickied message about board policy, that seems misguided.

There are two comments from the locked thread that I want to touch on.

One is that ghostlight said that Patti's intent was originally a call for civility, when it was actually a call to shut down or move the boards. And shutting down the boards is repeatedly what folks have been calling for on Twitter.

The other is Rob's Answering Whizzer’s question - you’re certainly allowed to give opinions of a show, performer or performance, positive or negative.

Except this entire brouhaha started over people giving opinions of a show, performer or performance, positive and negative, and innocuous posts were still deleted and the thread locked,.

Look, a web site owner can run his site anyway he wants, but it seems silly to wave the flag of "free speech" (which of course isn't guaranteed on privately owned message board, anyway). It just seems silly to tell us things are one way when we can very clearly see for ourselves that they aren't.

Yea, this entire situation revolves around posts that aren't actually objectionable.

It's fundamentally a non-issue.

I tried to create a safe space for those personally affected by #theshroudofmurin including myself but that thread kept getting deleted. I guess jokes are not allowed even if they are not directly against the site guidelines. One of my posts was deleted and Rob sent me a message explaining why so that's fine and I'll accept that one. I do have qualms deleting anything that is found to be personally objectionable. I think it's silly to have that post locked but I stopped reading around 1:30am.
