The book is a piece of S H I T. He was so "in love" with Natalie that it took him less than a year after her mysterious drowning to start a relationship with Jill St. John.

Yeah, what a way to grieve the loss of your wife, just shack up with another woman.

"Yeah, what a way to grieve the loss of your wife, just shack up with another woman."
Exactly, unless you want to shack up with a man. But who are we to judge how long it should take.

Marquise, don't you watch the soaps - it's done that way all the time!
Just kidding, actually I agree with Jane - grieving is an individual thing and human beings are complicated in what they need to survive.

Posted: 2/16/09 at 11:04amRight, and when you say "less than a year" well that can mean 11 months. If you're grieving longer than that, I respect your way, but it's not uncommon to be ready to break out of a grievance at that point or earlier.

My mom started dating her current boyfriend just about a year after my dad died - what does that say about her.
Perhaps that she wanted to continue her life?

Exactly my point.
So, Marquise, what is your acceptable time line for someone to stop grieving?

I don't have one. I guess everyone does have their own way of processing grief. I shouldn't really judge R.J. for wanting to move on with his life but it was, at the most, 4 months after her death that they started seeing each other.
Maybe I'm being just being overly idealistic or romantic but I would think that if the love of your life died under such tragic circumstances starting a relationship with someone else so soon would be the last thing you would want to do, especially when their are kids involved.
But again, I guess everyone grieves and processes these things differently.

I wish she were here to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of WEST SIDE STORY.
Three West Side Story stars left their hand and footprints on Hollywood Boulevard on Tuesday outside the same theatre where the Oscar-winning movie premiered 50 years ago.
A couple of days ago Rita Moreno, George Chakiris and Russ Tamblyn made their mark on Hollywood history by cementing their prints outside the historic Grauman's Chinese Theatre, where the film debuted in 1961.
Moreno, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her turn as Anita in the iconic movie, took time out to pay tribute to the film's lasting legacy and its lead actress Natalie Wood, who died in 1981.
She tells reporters, "There are a lot of films 50 years old. But there are, as far as I know, very few, if any, films that are still playing somewhere on TV, in theaters all over the world. That is what is astonishing. I am just thrilled. I wish Natalie were here. I think that would really complete the quartet."
Chakiris and Tamblyn played rival gang leaders of the Sharks and the Jets.
Natalie left her prints in front of the theater 50 years ago when the film premiered there in 1961.

And it's going to get ugly with these statements:
My amateur investigation detailed in GNGS suggests Wood likely lived for many hours
throughout her last night, floating in the ocean. Simple experiments prove that it’s likely Natalie Wood
lived for many hours while her husband refused to search for her, call for professional help, or to allow
his boat employee, Dennis Davern, to perform proper procedures for a person missing from a boat.
Coast Guard Captain, Roger Smith, is willing and eager to come forward with his professional opinion to
confirm this belief. He claims Wood probably died shortly before she was found. He is an expert in
drowning rescue and recovery and offers many plausible reasons for his beliefs.
Smith tried to call both public and professional attention to the facts pertaining to the night Wood died but was ignored and was never interviewed by authorities. He has suffered bouts of depression over Wood’s death and has always hoped for the opportunity to publicly release his story.
The medical examiner’s office failed in their medical investigation of Wood’s death as well. Coroner Noguchi claimed Natalie’s jacket weighed her down in the water, causing a probable quick death. Not so. Down coats float a person in water, and have been known as life preservers for others caught in that situation. Natalie lived in the ocean that night while Wagner refused to make any attempt to save her. Also, Noguchi’s explanation for bruises is questionable. Had Natalie tried to mount a dinghy for hours, she could not have been found wearing wool socks: the socks would have come off her feet.
Davern’s testimony claims Wood and the dinghy were never together that night, that Natalie went overboard during an argument with her husband, an argument that sounded physical, one likely to cause bruises. But the three surviving men of the cruise were not checked for possible corresponding bruises.

Very sad.
Also, poor Richard Beymer getting snubbed by Rita Moreno.

Posted: 11/18/11 at 3:24pmYeah, what's up with Beymer snub? That really rubbed me the wrong way, especially from someone like Rita Moreno, who is VERY quick to point out when she is treated unjustly or overlooked herself. Nice one, kid. It seemed almost blatant to me.

This just gets more awful the more I think about it.
The thing about this new evidence is that they will probably spend millions of dollars now and have a trial to see if he actually murdered her (it would be 2nd degree, "in the heat of the moment," not first degree, and not involuntary manslaughter).
The facts (aka witness testimony) are all about the time and events leading up to and after the "incident" that caused her to go into the water and stay there. There is no concrete evidence to prove that he pushed her in. If he did, knowing she couldn't swim, and asking others not to respond to her cries for help, he would be guilty of 2nd degree murder.
But if she fell into the water or fell out of the dingy (which also can't be proven at this point), and he did nothing to save her, I don't think they can find him guilty of murder. Can they find him guilty of willfully neglecting to help someone who was clearly dying? Some of the other minor (by comparison) charges could be obstruction of justice, if they can prove he covered up evidence or paid people off not to submit evidence. That will be tricky, too.
And it's been 30 years now. I sort of feel sorry for that schmuck of a boat captain who said he's been trying to get someone to listen to his story and eye-witness account, but no one would bother---until this book came out on the anniversary of her death. I'm sure they will try to say this is just publicity for the book, but he is claiming they are the first people who listened to what he had to say and took him seriously.
Time will tell, I guess. I think this is such a horrible tragedy. And even if Wagner isn't guilty of a punishable offense, the fact that he listened to her cries for help and did nothing about it is bone-chilling. He's guilty of being an inhuman monster, even if they can't put him behind bars.

I thought the captain had some new book deal, but I see he was talking about it in magazines (Vanity Fair, tabloids, etc.). No book deal (yet). But he's trying to get one.
I wasn't talking about RJ's book from 2 years ago. That didn't mention anything about the captain's testimony, obviously.
