No besty, the captain's book (written with Marti Rulli) GOODBYE NATALIE, GOODBYE SPLENDOUR was released 2 years ago as well. That's the book Pal Joey is referring to in his post to you. I know because I purchased it when it was released. There is no new book deal.

He was first interviewed by Vanity Fair 10 years ago and I believe they have interviewed him again.

He also appears in a new segment on Natalie's death produced for "48 Hours".

His book was first released September 2009. The paperback edition followed in November 2010.

The publishing timeline is confusing to me, especially the way it's referenced in these new news articles ... so why is the case being opened now, on the 30th anniversary of her passing, instead of two years ago? No new book, article, or information has come out in the past two years (at least), then, right? They're just repeating what they've already said. So that shouldn't be a question for the witnesses (with books or without them) per that morning show "grilling" of Davern yesterday, it's a question for the police. Why did they wait so long?

"But the Los Angeles Times has reported that detectives were prompted to look at the case again after comments made by Mr Davern."

(Did they really mean comments made two years ago?)

This is just sad all the way around. The fact that they changed her death certificate from "accidental" to "undetermined", added this new amendment and still have the case open is a clear indication that they suspect a lot more went on than what was said and what the authorities were led to believe. I strongly believe there was a major covering up and protecting of someone.

I hate that she died so young and so unnecessarily and under such horrible, tragic circumstances.

I've idolized her ever since I was 7 and saw her in WEST SIDE STORY. She is and will always remain my favorite actress.

How is RJ not a suspect? If the case is still opened and they speak of changing the death certificate,how can anyone who was on that boat that night not be considered a suspect or person of interest? Clearly they do not believe she died as was reported 30 years ago.

I've always suspected that something foul went down. I also remember being pissed that Robert Wagner so easily got involved with Jill St. John and moved her in a mere 3 months after Natalie's death. That's another can of worms waiting to bust open as I highly suspect St. John was already having an affair with Wagner before Wood's death.

You know what's also creepy? The fact that Wood, Powers and St. John all attended the same ballet class as little girls. A picture exists of all three of them as young girls side by side.

I have to ask,why has this taken so long? Can they even arrest RJ at this point? Who was responsible for the initial investigation? I've heard numerous times over the years about foul play but they have also made it clear RJ was never a suspect,which never made sense to me.None of the others were considered suspects yet they suspect there may have been foul play?

If RJ is somehow responsible for Natalie's death he's gotten away with it now for over 30 years. This case has always fascinated me but how tragic it is that no one was held accountable or charged years ago.

There's no statute of limitations on murder. They can arrest his ass any time they want.

They have to be careful accusing him of murder without proof. However, I am assuming during the investigation they asked him some personal questions about him and Natalie.Sounds to me like the fault may be with the investigators who assumed Natalie's bruises were self inflicted and saw no sign of abuse or foul play.I'm sure RJ's lawyer is preparing paperwork and a possible defense.

I hope during all this time they have built a good case against him,if in fact he was responsible for her death.I'd love to hear what Christopher Walken thinks of all of this. I seem to recall in RJ's memoirs,he glossed over Natalie's death pretty much repeating what he has said all along. It's been a while and I am curious if anyone can remember exactly what he said at the time. I'm sure he was promoting the book and was 'willing' to discuss more about here death then just to sell his book.

It is my feeling that Wagner for the most part loved her but deep down inside was threatened by her fame. Her fame due to the back to back to back successes of West Side Story, Splendor in the Grass and Gypsy eclipsed his by leaps and bounds and caused a major riff in their marriage the first time.

She was more than happy to take a back seat (for awhile) and raise her girls while he slowly made himself a household name via IT TAKES A THIEF, SWITCH and HART TO HART, but when she decided to start acting again in feature films it became an issue all over again.

BRAINSTORM was a major motion picture and a coup for Natalie as she was cast opposite Christopher Walken who was "hot" at the time after appearing in such films as THE DEER HUNTER, PENNIES FROM HEAVEN, etc.

Not to mention she was due to make her stage debut at L.A.'s Ahmanson Theater in a revival of ANASTASIA...the posters were already up at the time of her untimely death.

She was gaining traction, she was on the cusp of making a major comeback. Someone...It was cut short.
