No, I'm not surprised by anything. At all. I am sure the "trusted advisor" gets bigger crumbs than everybody else. And I'm sure he does some amazing rationalizations to get through his, I am sure, very economically secure life.
Just like I am not surprised that Armstrong Williams, deeply closeted homosexual, took LOTS of tax payers' money to shill for Bush's economic plan and education, I guess you could call them, initiatives. What is there left to be surprised about, I ask you?
Crumbs from the table. That's always been enough to satisfy the do-nothings of the Human Rights Campaign, the biggest homosexual ladies and gentlemans fund raising conglomerate (for really that's all they are) who never actually ACCOMPLISH anything except for showing up at press conferences when somebody else manages to get something done.
In fact, gay people who are not satisfied by a meal of crumbs should seriously consider removing those STUPID equal signs off the bumpers of their jeeps.
And not be suprised by anything Kristen Chenoweth does.
who knows she might not support gays...she is after all a woman, and def. straight, so she shouldn't have to support it.

Come on. What are you saying? I'm a gay man, I have never had sex with a woman. However, I see how the right to do as I see fit with my body, with whomever I choose, is inextricably linked up with the rights of women to do whatever they want with their bodies, and with whomever they choose, man, woman, terminator of pregnancies.
This, "she's straight and a woman so she doesn't have to support gay rights" is just so off-base. Half of the gay people whose rights she doesn't have to support are also women, you know that right? Or do you think "gay" is just a guy thing?
whomever they choose, man, woman
namo, don't you make get all santorum on ya, frothy style!
evelyn, yer a gratingly shrill pissant. lol. deal.
d, i have a such a huge man crush on ya.

Papa, I'm curious if you could be friends with someone who didn't support your marriage? There are still people out there who are racist like that. They even have religious beliefs for that opinion. Could you truly be friends with someone like that? I'm not saying acquaintances. I'm saying friends.
Because, papa, Rathnait, XxVe, Joshua, and others, I do not consider ANYONE to be my FRIEND if they can not respect and support my relationships. If I had a wedding, and they would not come because they can't support that kind of thing, then we are not friends. It's not about "being gay" 24/7, it's about who I date. Who I love. Who I marry. Just like the straight folk. They don't flaunt that stuff. It just is.
This revelation came to me when I discovered that many of my college friends went from being promiscuous, pot smoking, beer drinking, bi-curious typical college students to being morally righteous, anti-gay "Christians" just because they got married, had kids, and moved to the suburbs of Dallas, TX. Oh, they still adore me. That John is SOOOO funny! But, I found out that they do not support gay marriage, hence they would not support my getting married. Hence, I'm just that funny guy who entertains them. I'm not allowed to fall in love or have sex or have a crush. I'm only allowed to be funny, dress nicely, and give good advice on paint colors and fabrics.
No thank you.
And, I can understand the furor over this. Anytime, we disagree with an artist's actions, we are allowed to protest in our own way--turn the channel, don't buy the ticket or album. THAT'S democracy in this capitalist nation. Are all of you who think one's protesting KC is "a shame" sure you aren't guilty of being turned off by a celebrity or two's thoughts? Just in the last year--did you quietly think to yourself that you would no longer or "never now" support the Sean Penns or Michael Moores of the entertainment industry?
And, the thread wasn't started over the opinion that one party's economic platform is better than the other. The thread was started over a blood and bones issue--the proliferation of discrimination in this country that was spearheaded in essence by George W Bush. He made it "ok" to consider gays and lesbians second class citizens. I don't care if he truly believes that or not (though let's talk again about standing up for what you BELIEVE in??). I care that we were used to get votes. I care that hate has become "ok" again. I care that Bush is still planning on pursuing the Amendment that would make gays and lesbians second class citizens. He has all that "political capital" now, right? The fact is that while not all Republicans are bad, the Republican party is bad--they did indeed write the most anti-gay measures into their party's platform. And, while papalovesmambo and KC may love gay people, they are supporting an administration and a party in whole that supports this hatred and discrimination. Need I remind folks that the longest standing O at the RNC was for the comment Bush made supporting "traditional marriage"?
Am I personally disappointed with a celebrity I like performing for Bush? Yes. Would I myself ever perform for Bush or accept an honor from him--No. Unless, I knew I could make a statement to him as was mentioned earlier in this thread that KC should do. And I would throw the medal on the ground.
that's a wonderful monologue, but unfortunately we asked you to prepare a comic song. do you have a comic cong? no? next...
I always know when I knock you out when I get one of those replies.
(and, in case anyone wonders, yes, I love papa. I can look past his political persuasion.

Very funny, Papa - but he does have a point. At some point in time, lines were destined to be drawn - and apparently that time is nigh.
folks the only reason i get amped up on threads like this is when i see the side that is calling for tolerance and understanding going out of their way to demonize and divide and acting as if they have divine providence to do so. the hypocisy of it is apalling and yet their oblivion is complete within their own little group. face it, you're a f***ing minority and someone is always going to use you and your lives as a campaign stink bomb. in america, first it was the italians the chinese and the irish, then it was the jews (although they and the christians saw plenty of that in their time), then women, then the blacks then the hispanics. look at successful rights movements in american history. who achieved more for african americans? malcom x with the policy of anger and division, or martin luther king with peaceful protest and allowing the better angels of american society to overwhelm people. you're not going to get in american's faces and shove your issues down their throats. all you achieve is a backlash against your goals. and the moniker of hypocrites everytime you brand someone with the label of bigot or hater. it's a movement, not a f***ing war. you aren't going to have a decisive battle and the kinds of analogies thrown here with carefree abandon do nothing but cement current views and prejudieces without ever even trying to find any middle ground. that's a losing strategy. is it fair that you even have to engage in this? of course not. but it wasn't fair of my ancestors to own other human beings either, but it happened and we still have not ironed out that one. so stay angry. keep preaching the politics of division while demanding for acceptance. there's the way it oughta be and there's the way it is. you can try to evoke change using methods that b ring people together and allow their own innate sense of right and wwrong to eventually inform their actions, or you can divide them, demonize them and give further ammunition to those on their side who point to the hatred and say, "see, they hate us." thus, another generation grows up fearing and not understanding and not accepting others. it's human nature, folks. you're not going to get what you want through confrontation. all you get is a screaming contest to see who can shout the loudest, who can use the meanest words and who can go home and brag to their friends the longest about how they told that a**hole a thing or two today.
Are you African-American? If not, then screw off again, because we don't appreciate your attempting to sum up our history with generalizations. :)
i'm sorry, did i miss the edition of american history where ownership of history was bestowed on any single group? and how dare you presume to speak for all african americans? that's like ward connerly saying that he's the voice of black america. yer a hack, evie. and your hatred might keep you warm in the short term, but it'll leave ya cold and alone eventually.
well, papa, how about the GOPs start. They are the compassionate ones. I'll forget all of the nasty things that the folks who have all the power have said if they are willing to reach across the aisle. I'll forget that they have yet to do that.
I'm sorry but I have no tolerance for bigotry. It's lazy and it's ignorance. And, I will fight fire with fire--you certainly don't mind doing so when it suits you, so I really find you to be one of the last people to get away with throwing out the word "hypocrisy".
I'm not going to be sweet and yes sir/yes ma'am those who would discriminate against me. And, I will not continue to be those college friends' court jester. And, I'm sorry that it upsets you that I see people like George W Bush and Karl Rove and Elizabeth Dole and countless others as bigots. I'm sorry that you are upset that their attack on my civil rights should bring about my vigorous defense.
But, you are very wrong about the civil rights of the 60s. It was the combined yen yang, good cop bad cop of Malcolm X and MLK that brought about change. X raised hell---got the public's attention. Got the issues stirred up. He lit the fire. Then, the political leaders of the time saw the contrast in MLK and decided that they could talk to him. MLK was able to put out the fire.
I'll be happy to light the fire. And, there are many who will do better at putting it out and, thus, making change finally happen in this country.
I will be civil to all people--unless they attack me. (Funny, in grander schemes, this is your whole view on war--and YOUR party supports preemptive strikes). But, I will not be friends with people who can not support me.
ok, jrb, x did get people riled up all right and may you find your x. i hope you're not one of the people who have to pay the price for getting america riled up. because a whole lotta people paid for x's words including him. and when you're riling people up, remember, it was x's own folk who dun kilt his a**.

Papa - I have to take some time to collect my thoughts after seeing you espouse what could almost be seen as a Buddhist philosophy
d, i took out one line in that diatribe towards the end..."god, i sound so f***ing tibetan new age-y."
and MLK paid the price, too.
And Harvey Milk. And others.
What's your point?
Papa, your post isn't even worth addressing in detail. Racism and homophobia barely concealed within it! And that's some bull you're preaching about strategies that minorities should use to achieve their goals - you're telling US what we need to do to deal with ignorant people like you? Oh kiss off, you old cross-burner. :)
Evelyn--you are crossing the line there. Papa is not the least bit racist or homophobic.
God JRB if I was gay.....
you are one of the smartest people on this board.
"face it, you're a f***ing minority and someone is always going to use you and your lives as a campaign stink bomb. in america, first it was the italians the chinese and the irish, then it was the jews (although they and the christians saw plenty of that in their time), then women, then the blacks then the hispanics."
This isn't the least bit racist? JRB, you're not only accomodationist; you're also blind. :)
No, Evelyn, you are VERY uninformed*. And I laugh at your saying that I am "accomodationist" after being accused of being too much of a fighter!
*Papa is in an interracial marriage (as he has stated before on this board). Try topping that, honey.
Carl--you know how I feel about ya. If you ever have an epiphany....

Evelyn - I think you might be confusing an analysis from an objective viewpoint with a personal opinion. I can also assure you that Papa is neither of the things you mentioned.
cuz we both had papa--at the SAME TIME!
JRB, you're startlingly ignorant - because someone purports to be in an interracial marriage, that exempts them from any accusations of racism and homophobia? You mean to tell me that you've never heard of internalized racism and homophobia? Or Strum Thurmond who ****ed black women and was still one of the greatest segregationists of the twentieth century? My god, how ignorant you are, JRB.
And then you waste time writing long posts in opposition to the kind of thinking represented by Papa, only to change your tune moments later. Accomodationist!
DGrant, I know what I've been reading for the last few months.
