The dad in the article who complains about being excluded from the adult world- why does it have to be at a bar? Are there no restaurants or coffee shops in Brooklyn?

I think there should be one or two places in life where you don't have children present.

Well, like I said. I wouldn't bring Henry to some bar where people are getting drunk and being obnoxious. But there are plenty of tavern type places around Buffalo that are very family friendly. And I have no problem bringing him there. And neither do the other customers it seems.

Oh I know. I'm just feeling defensive because I bring my kid to PP and let him sit at the bar.

Oh, at least you know you're being defensive, lol. Because I'm not saying anything negative about your son, stock'
.

May I ask you why you would bring your child to a bar anyway?

Babies shouldn't be allowed into movie theaters either. Blah!

I agree Spidey - and believe it or not, people come to our off broadway theaters carrying new born infants. One woman was actually hiding one inside her jacket and I saw it when she leaned over.

Well like I said I wouldn't bring him to a bar-bar. But sometimes when we are at the local pizza restaurant we go to we have to wait in the bar for a table.

We went to the "family show" at the Buffalo Philharmonic the other day. And there were people there with newborn babies too. It was a bit annoying, but at the same time there were kids behind me that were like 12 and they were talking and kicking the chairs in front of them. They were way too old to be behaving that way. And of course the parents said nothing. My son, who is 6, was way better behaved.

I think Rated R movies should be like Adult Video establishments. You're under a certain age, you aren't getting in. When I went to see "SAW IV," this couple brought in two kids about 4-7 years old. It's rated R for a reason, people.

Here's the REAL question...

Should Barbies be allowed in Babes?

At what point do they enforce legal limits? What if the parent wants to bring his 19 year old into a bar? Bars are raided and fined by police for admitting underage patrons who are still legal adults.

Stockard - What is ridiculous? Them bringing the kids to "SAW IV" or what I said about not letting them in a Rated R movie?

I think a big part of it is the type of establishment we are talking about. Are you talking about a bar? Or a restaurant that happens to have a bar in it? That's what I'm talking about. And obviously my 6 year old is not going to try to get served a drink.

Sometimes I think there is too much of a divide on this board between those of us who have kids and those who don't. We obviously have differing opinions on things, and it's hard for us to understand the others' points of view. And that may never be resolved.

Whoa, every one is getting too defensive here. I was agreeing with you. It is ridiculous to bring kids that age to a movie like that.

Stockard, I'm going to speak for everyone and say what you're talking about is totally different, so don't feel defensive. (Anyone who disagrees, take it up with me, not Stock.)

Kids in the bar area of a family style restaurant is not at all what the article is talking about. And that's totally different. I can't see it's to anyone's advantage: neither the people who are annoyed; the parent(s), whom everyone is annoyed by; or the kid.

I'm with Jane: I love kids, but why can't there by kid-free zones?

Oh Stockard, I love you but come on!!!! There are certain places where children just should NOT BE. I donrt think that's an unreasonable thing for a parent to agree to.

And for the bar issue, I think you were concerned that if people are going to be drunk, then your son shouldn't be there to see that behavior. I'm saying that it's the other way around. The bar is where adults are supposed to drink, they belong there, and they shouldn't have to deal with any children there. At all.

Jane we are going to have to agree to disagree. because you have no idea what the place is that I'm talking about. It is a family pizza place where you have to wait in the bar area when you have to wait for a table. People DO NOT go there to get drunk. They are in the bar waiting for a table or having a drink after work. I don't see where you are seeing that I said I take him to a bar where people get drunk. You've obviously misread my posts.

Thank you Reg. You seem to get what I am trying to say where others aren't. I agree that there are kid-free type bars. But that's not where I bring my kid.

Enough of this. I'm done here.

What? did you even read my post? I'm not talking about pizza places. If you read my post it says bars where people are getting drunk. I'm talking about BAR BARS. Sheesh.

I think you're so hot under the collar right now that you're not thinking straight. Take care!

Stockard, the article is about bars. Not restaurants with bars, actual bars. That's what everyone is responding to- people bringing their children into establishments where only alcohol is served, not bringing a kid to the Olive Garden on a crowded night and sitting in the bar section because a table frees up there first.
