re: Six Feet Under.

Cabaret, I agree. I also thought Ruth was going to be mauled by the cougar. I guess everyone did.

re: Six Feet Under.

How could anyone think Nate was being a asshole? I also did not like her from day one. What a nag.

re: Six Feet Under.

I realized after the scene where she found the group of (yoga?) people that they set us up way too conveniently for us to believe the cougar thing. Rico had JUST finished telling us about it when they cut too Ruth - way too easy for this show. I knew right then that Nate was a goner.

I have to say, though he was a total ass, there was something about Nate I liked. Maybe it's just Peter Krause who I like as an actor, but he didn't bother me as much as he seemed to everyone else.

re: Six Feet Under.

So they finally killed Nate off? Thank the TV heavens -- much as I love the show, I stopped watching regularly during mid-season 3 because I couldn't take Peter Krause's smug portrayal anymore.

Being a lost soul is no excuse for being an irritating asshole.

I never liked Nate anyway (or Peter Krause for that matter). Then again, I don't like Brenda, either!

I never thought he was an ass, but I did think he had terrible judgement, which is not exactly the same thing.

re: Six Feet Under.

Well that's just a touch misogynistic!

Brenda being a c*nt and Nate being an a$$hole are not mutually exclusive. It's a toxic relationship. And the writer's have shown that beautifully over the past five seasons.

I can't say I felt much when Nate died. I was thinking perhaps they were gonna leave him a vegetable and the family was going to have to deal with that. But his death just seems...right. It's a fascinating character because he's been on this tremendous journey and has managed not to get very far. It's frustrating and so true all at the same time. Near death experiences don't always transform us the way some special Oprah episodes will have us believe.

I find Keith and David to be incredibly annoying...the way I find ALL new parents annoying. As much as I want more for Claire, sometimes our pursuit of our young passions don't always work out. It's heartbreaking.

Oh...and if Frances Conroy doesn't win an Emmy, there is no justice in the world.

re: Six Feet Under.

It's clear Nate gravitated towards the idea of a nuclear family because he allowed himself to be manipulated into two marriages based solely on the idea of providing a child with a father and a mother. His indescretion with the new girl was simply a she's-the-opposite-of-Brenda-and-would-make-a-better-mother kind of attitude that was also destined to fail. My brother's two marriages are very similar to Nate's, but without the deaths.

re: Six Feet Under.

robbiej - I found Keith and David incredibly annoying from the moment they started dating. I almost stopped watching the show when they moved in together.

The thing about Claire is that I don't think art truly was her passion, because she never really put too much effort into developing a career. She simply agreed to ride along with those who saw her work and liked it, but didn't do much to promote herself other than to sleep with people. Maybe she really wasn't that passionate about it in the first place.

re: Six Feet Under.

Here here for Frances Conroy. She's such a gem.

Nate and Brenda were a toxic couple. They both are screwed up and somehow hoped that their marriage would make them "normal".

I'm sad that Nate died, but I'm looking foward to next week's episode to see the fallout, especially after dumping Brenda just before he died...

I would love for Claire to marry the lawyer and become your typical Valley housewife with a Lexus. ( just like me)

Ugh! But he's Republican. She should move to NYC and find a nice Democrat corporate lawyer and live lide like Carrie and Big. I could definitely see Claire in some Manolos.

re: Six Feet Under.

I think Brenda has been a whack since the beginning. Her family and Nates family put the dys in dys-functional. Remember the turmoil caused by Billy when his character was introduced. That's when Brenda and Nates relationship got volatile.

Nate eventually got what he wanted. He couldn't really cope with life and he wanted to die. When he woke from the coma, I think he knew he was going to die and he seemed happier and more content than he had in the entire run of SFU.

re: Six Feet Under.

Vb if he knew he was going to die, why did he break it off with Brenda? Didn't he care at all about his unborn baby's future?
Wouldn't he be concerned about Mya and who would raise her?

re: Six Feet Under.

Has Billy Crudup been giving Nate advice?

Nate was a spoiled baby. He needed instant gratification, and when he didn't get it, he acted out like a little brat. Nate knew what he was getting with Brenda, and he married her. He chose her. There's no excuse for his behavior. I don't understand how Brenda is being labeled by some as a bitch. IF she were really a bitch, his mistress wouldn't have any teeth.

re: Six Feet Under.

Well.. she was a little better than ily Taylors character. That to me brought the show down in quality. She was just so annoying.

re: Six Feet Under.

It's still bothering me that some choose to relieve Nate of accountability for his actions by blaming the women. Because "they were bitches", his vile and irresponsible behavior isn't his fault? What's that about? I think Robbie nailed it...Lili Taylor, Brenda and Nate were all incredibly f*cked up, each in his/her own right...and they created toxic relationships.

re: Six Feet Under.

Yes yes we get it. Nate was on the jerk side.

That being said...what are your guys' interpretations of the final dream sequence in which Nate gets into the van with his brother? To me, it simply symbolizes how his dream life would be just simple fun hanging out and getting high with his brother and his father at the beach, a "place of peace". Yet even that dream is riddled with holes, as neither Nate Sr. nor David (Those he really cares about) wants to join him as he gets into the water. And thus, Nate dies alone and cold (in the water) after cutting himself off from everyone he loved, despite the fact that David is with him at his side. Thoughts?

re: Six Feet Under.

I agree with Robbie about Nate and Ruth but not about David and Keith. As much as I like the picture below of Nate, I wish we had seen a LOT MORE of Keith shirtless.

re: Six Feet Under.

Mmm...Peter...you've been working out, haven't you?

thirdrow. I see your point, it's just that he was smiling at everyone in the hospital and was acting so strange about everything including breaking up with Brenda. It seemed to me that he knew he was going to die and it was comforting to him because he couldn't take the pain of living anymore. He was always so unhappy.

re: Six Feet Under.

The fact that he was able to stay awake and that he could speak without any slurring was pretty unrealistic I thought.
Nate was looking forward to starting yet another relationship.
