I Can Live Without Seeing This In 3D

Extremely meh. I wonder if they'll crop the top and bottom to make it fit a modern (and Imax) aspect ratio. But I can't be botered to wonder too much.
The won't have to crop for IMAX. IMAX is tall, not wide. I can't wait to see this!
WHY CAN'T IT JUST BE WICKED
I know.....
It will be interesting to see how far they can go with the conversion of an old 1939 movie.
Honestly, my expectations are low. The first Blu-ray release is dismally dark, muddy, and grainy. I think Warner Bros. in general masters nearly all of their classic films too dark on Blu-ray---I mean, what the hell is "inky blacks?" They don't exist in real life or in real shadows (or on real film stock). It makes everything look like a video game with painted colors and shadows.
We shall see. I plan on seeing this, as of now, but I will read the reviews carefully first (by people I trust, not the Internet "home entertainment experts" to see how successful it really is.
Because a movie isn't a movie unless it has SH*T flying at your face.
Embrace adulthood!
Why can't they just re-release these films without having to add in the special effects? They used to do it. It just really isn't impressive.
I wish they'd re-release it with Smell-O-Vision!

Because I want to know just how rank that lion costume poor Bert Lahr was wearing must have been by the time they got through even just a week of filming.
I was thinking more along the lines of sniffing Dorothy's panties, but whatever.
I was hoping to smell Margaret Hamilton's burnt flesh when she goes down the fire hole.
The Wizard of Oz just loves to milk its poor fans. The real reason behind this is the $105 dollar 5 disc box set that will be released right after. UGH!
I really dont like films in IMAX. They give me a headache. It's hard to take it all in.

I have never seen any really current or popular movie in Imax. 3D is annoying though because the characters and some other things look like cut outs, to me. It is not good looking at all.

You mean, the Brothers Warner just loves to milk their poor Wizard of Oz fans.

I might go see this. I went to see it in theaters in 2009, but it was in widescreen. The black bars were visible. I think in IMAX those bars will not be seen.
A chance to finally see that hanging Munchkin clearly? And in 3D?
I am so there.
Maybe they'll have him swinging out at you!!!
Is he hanging or is he hung? It matters to me.
Was there really that big of a demand for this in 3D? Um, nope.
What's next? THE SOUND OF MUSIC in 3-D? I can see it now...Julie Andrews swinging arms comin' right at ya...not to mention those friggin' Trapp kids.

I don't know why, but I'm kind of really excited about this.

This trailer was very well-done. I love the choir singing "Over the Rainbow".
VIDEO: Trailer - THE WIZARD OF OZ in 3D for 75th Anniversary!
I have to say this 2D trailer makes the film look better than it ever has. The colors, details, etc., far surpass the current Blu-ray release.
I'm looking forward to seeing it in 3D. I still don't own a 3D TV, so I'll be checking it out in IMAX.
I also love the editing of this trailer and the music they used. Part of me wishes (and I know this is blasphemy for some) that they would enhance the original orchestra and/or re-record it with a full symphony-sized orchestra using today's technology. I say that, having seen the Tornado Sequence played at the Hollywood Bowl with the live orchestra accompanying the original film. It was really incredible.
I'm not advocating they re-record or enhance any of the singing or voices, just the orchestra. It would leap out at you (the way the 3D probably will), and putting the audio and video together like that would be stunning.
Yes, for purists, they can offer the original audio recordings on a separate channel on the BD, but I would love to hear a full, modern orchestra play this score to the actual film.
The new 3D blows when compared to original 1950'S 3D. Take my word for it. No reason other than money to convert this. The munchkins are rolling over in their graves.
