Is she really THAT good?
I don't think so. I mean, she's fine. She's pleasant. Nice. A Kamala supporter. All good. I just don't think her music is all that great. There are so many better acts out there. Why is Taylor such a phenomenon?
A lot of her stuff is mediocre at best. Her recent engagement was like a national event. I don't get it.
New album out today, it does not excite me in the least.

One might think the OP is a full-out misogynist. Creates a thread for no other reason than to demean Taylor Swift, a talented and popular FEMALE entertainer. World famous; brings credit to the United States.
And at the same time has a BWW signature (Beyonce is not our ally) created for no other reason than to demean Beyonce, a talented and popular FEMALE entertainer. World famous; strong supporter of our Queer communities.
Well guess what. REAL men do not hide in the internet to trash women.
And guess what else. Both Taylor Swift and Beyonce are our ALLIES.

Pretty shaky case there, HG. Not enough to prosecute. Sorry.

Here's Taylor Swift when she was just a young girl. Already a patriot and already a BIG DEAL.

Swift knows how to work the system, she is versatile across genres, has a very good business acumen, and a strong connection with her fans. It’s also worth mentioning that her vocals, specifically her live vocals, have vastly improved through the years.
She has been successful for two decades now, but a lot of her newer music has failed to excite me, especially this new album. This isn’t entirely on her - the question here should be, are Max Martin and Shellback losing their magic touch?

i'm not a fan of hers but she is a great songwriter. Vocally she's not there and I doubt many would listen to an a cappella or acoustic version of any of her albums. Have to wonder if she'll still have a career after 40 and married w/kids.

She's still doing diss tracks? Girl...you're over 30. This is embarrassing.
Yeah, I still don't understand how she became this Beatles-level phenomenon, but here we are.

Biggest pop star on the planet gets engaged to NFL football star is a big deal in our culture today whether we like it or not.
"New album out today, it does not excite me in the least."
You are not her demographic -lol.
"Is she really THAT good?"
She has been critically acclaimed for her songwriting. She is pretty good musician, plays acoustic guitar and piano. I have seen clips of her "rocking out" on electric guitar with guest artists live. Voice is not extraordinary but fine. She does know how to put on a show with concerts over 3 hours long and loved by her fans. She also is brilliant at marketing herself, went from teen age country star to pop icon.

Why am I not her demographic?
I think I am. I am also in my 30s. The same generation as Taylor herself. Is that too old? (How old do people think I am?)
I guess flying on my own private jet halfway across the globe to watch my boyfriend win the SuperBowl and then flying straight back to the other side of the planet is just not something I can relate to.
I do think it likely that if I was a teenager I would worship at the Swiftie altar. If I shared an elevator with Cher or Bette or Liza or Bernadette, I would be so starstruck. I just can't feel that way about people of my own generation. Be it Taylor or anyone else. Maybe that explains why I don't get it.

You're a guy, fan base is mostly women.
"I guess flying on my own private jet halfway across the globe to watch my boyfriend win the SuperBowl and then flying straight back to the other side of the planet is just not something I can relate to."
It is what the rich and famous do including the people you mentioned like Cher, Bernadette and Liza.

You really need some reading comprehension skills. OP called her kind, nice and Harris supporter (same as you), how is that demeaning Ms. Swift? OP did not trash her music, just stated not it is "not all that great" in comparison with her popularity. This is so typical of you, name calling when poster does not "kiss the butt" of somebody you like.

Another thing that triggered me.
The heteronormative proposal.
For such a celebrated feminist icon, it would have been nice for her to have taken a different route. This is 2025. The whole guy-down-on-one-knee thing should be finished. Did Taylor ever consider asking him? The teary emotional response ready for social media is quite cringe. Why does the groom-to-be never get a ring? If Taylor wants a 1.5 million dollar diamond ring, I imagine she can afford it herself. Yet she still holds this up as a goal for impressionable young minds to aim for. How about not getting married at all and living in sin?
If she calls her next tour the "Mrs. Kelce" tour, I will be deleting her from my playlists. Although admittedly Shake It Off is the only one I actually like.

I dunno. If I don’t like an artist, I just listen to something else, instead of bitching about it on a barely visited off topic section of a Broadway message board.

Taylor Swift is a cultural phenomenon, and as such a perfectly reasonable topic. Especially on the week she releases a new album.

You think you're insulting me, but all you're doing is showing how little compassion you have for actual social outsiders.

Maybe if you learn to use the quote button someday, people will be able to figure out who you are responding to.

I don't get it either, she doesn't have a singing voice. She sounds dry, generic, like an amateur and all of her songs only have 3 chords.
I miss the time of stars with actual quality, such as Olivia Newton John in her younger years. What has happened to pop culture?
