James Taylor could win for "Our Town" from CARS because he's a respected artist, but I think that Melissa Etheridge will win for AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH for reasons I stated in the other thread. She's a cancer survivor, a lesbian, etc. They won't be able to resist.

Unless they decide to award DREAMGIRLS a consolation prize.

I don't think PATIENCE has a chance. Although I seemed to like the song more than most and would like to see it (or any Dreamgirls song) win, I think PATIENCE is the most obvious loser in the race.

It was the best song in the movie, and if we agree that a dreamgirls song should win, then it has to be patience.

And you told me DREAMGIRLS was a lock. Come now.

I think PATIENCE has a great chance. It's a song about how people are upset with the political climate of their country, how they don't like they way things are going. They explain it in the film. It's a very timely song, and it makes perfect sense.

It would make perfect sense for them to award PATIENCE.

I would say LOVE YOU I DO has the smallest chance.

All of this DREAMGIRLS momentum seems to be building up to not much in terms of Oscars...

Do we still think it's a lock for Art Direction, Sound Mixing, & Supporting Actor/Actress?

And is Marie Antoinette a definite lock for its cosumes? Or could Dreamgirls sneak in and take it?

Well, I only picked nominees in pic/sir/acting categories, but I have 120 points...with a an 80% accuracy--not bad considering I went out on a limb for Pedro, Carrell and O'Hara.

I completely agree about the message and the timeliness and all...I mean I'd love to see it win but I'm not sure...

STILL a lock for art direction and sound?

I never thought it was a lock for anything at all?

5 oscars for dreamgirls

2 acting, 1 song, sound mixing, and costumes.

Also, I had 120 points also only picking the big 6, and i guess 125 if you count my insistence on Patience.

I just predicted the four acting awards and picture. I only missed three nominations. I got actress and supporting actress exactly right.

I had the following wrong:

Dreamgirls instead of Little Miss Sunshine
Matt Damon (Departed) instead of DiCaprio (Blood Diamond)
DiCaprio (Departed) instead of Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine)

But all three were on my list of "spoilers"
