You'll get there Stephen. It's just a little bump in the road, as long as you don't go totally off track you'll be fine. And there isn't anywhere left to go but the 100s now anyway, so I'm sure you'll hit it next week.
I've been slacking off a bit lately too and it's caused a maintain for the last two weeks. Booooo. (I also stress eat caitie, that's been my main problem the last couple weeks)
But I did run/walk 6 miles today (and 4.5 yesterday), so hopefully it's a sign I'll get back on track this week.

.5 is a very normal weight loss on WW. And, going over your points can cause things to slow, stop, or reverse. You are so close to the new point level. And that new point level will help you lose.
I started an exercise program yesterday, so hopefully I can finally get my weight on the downward slope again. :)

This is going to be a very tough month for me, I think. My mother is visiting from Florida and will be staying with me through the end of the month. She eats horribly (and her weight is definitely indicative of it) and I know we'll likely end up eating out quite a lot as she pays visits to her family and we get together with my brother. She took me grocery shopping today because I've been so poor I've been living off of Cheerios (literally) and I had to keep yelling at her to stop throwing junk food in my cart.
Plus, I've already skipped my run for the day so we could go out and do errands. Gah. This is going to be tough.

Woo hoo! I tried on my goal pants from Easter, and modelled them for my mom and her friend. They both said they almost looked like they fit.
I could barely get them zippered when I got them!

I need to start an exercise program soon. I am going to force myself to take Lifetime Fitness at the local community college this summer. I did it twice in high school so I didn't have to take gym in school. It forces me to go workout 30 times for a total of 30 hours combining weights and aerobic every time if I want the A. It is great because, in the summer at least, it equals 3 times a week, but I always try to go more. It is nice because they have early hours so you can go before work, late hours (Until 9 pm!) so you can go after work, and even weekends too.
But until then I need to do something.
I am sure they do it at other community colleges so if it is a possibility for anyone I really recommend it, it is less expensive than a gym which is nice.
And good luck Colleen

HAHA That is great. I will change it eventually, after I am sure everyone has seen the cuteness of it.
I find it funny that it confuses you though

I've been exercising for the third month now and it's been REALLY helpful although I haven't really lost weight, but things are, shall we say, rearranging. All in all, that's better for me at this point.

Posted: 5/5/06 at 12:25amNot to mention, remember that muscle "weighs" too! So if you're building, you could very well be building muscle and losing that other stuff... And your body has to readjust itself by reapportioning itself from the radical changes it is going through. But keep up all of the good work, all of you! And keep the good advice coming too!

Week 12:
Starting Weight: 221.5
Last Wednesday's Weight: 200
Today's Weight: 198
Finally, I am out of the 200s. It feels great. This week I really incorporated a lot of exercise and some light weights into my routine. I only have 13 lbs to go to reach my original goal.
I am no longer focusing on just losing weight. I am at the point where I am working on toning and getting things tightened up.
Thanks again to every one who has offered words of encouragement and advice. I don't know if I could have done this without you guys helping push me along and give me a reason to stay motivated. (Even if that reason was being publicly humiliated at my failure.)

Ha! Fixed.
Yeah, gaining 98lbs this past week would have been a few steps back I think.

Patronus, congrats! I keep waffling around my old previous low and 5 pounds above, so I made a hardcore new committment to losing back to my low and then losing 10 more pounds. So far, it's going well! Keep up the good exercise work! I've made the committment to go 4 times a week, even when I'm exhausted and can only force myself through cardio, just to make the routine of exercise a part of my life.

Follows is a very long vent. I apologize in advance.
I very much want to cry. I am up 2.5 pounds.
As I've mentioned earlier, my mother is staying with me for the next month. She is a very large woman (she wasn't always like that, just within the last few years this has occured) and her diet is ABHORRENT. She has eaten fast food at least once (sometimes more) every single day since she has arrived. I have turned down her offers to get me something well over half the time, but that is still bringing my fast food intake to a few times a week!!! Typically it's rare if I get fast food more than once every couple months.
She went grocery shopping as she refused to live on my diet of cheerios and salads (that and I'm a vegetarian and she is not). She has brought loads of unnecessary junk food into my home. My self-control just sucks, and if it's my apartment I will eat it. My best defense is to just keep the crap out of my apartment. So far that has worked well for me, but with her staying her that strategy is gone.
I've also been coming home from work to my mother's old homecooked meals, which although that is a nice thing to walk in the door to, they are loaded with calories and fat.
I am sure my caloric intake has doubled since she has arrived.
My workouts have been derailed as, in addition to horrible weather for over a week now, she is occupying much of my free time. I have been getting out for runs whenever the rain stops (which has been rarely) just to get some freaking time away from her as she is driving me absolutely MAD.
I've lost almost 20 pounds, and that was over a few months. I'm afraid that I am going to be up 10 by the time she leaves. She knows I've been dieting, she knows I've lost weight, and I've tried to talk to her about the fact that I am trying to live a healthier lifestyle now but she doesn't seem to care. She herself isn't in diet mode right now, and so she isn't particularly interested in supporting mine.
I know it's unfair to blame her, but I am finding her presence has completely thwarted my efforts. She is a very strong personality, when she thrusts a plate full of paste in front of you, you eat it.
I am feeling so depressed. I'm off to party with friends, and I don't even want to go because I am feeling so fat (it's only a few pounds, but I feel the difference!!)
Gah.

It's hard to put your foot down, but you have to do so. So many people (for various reasons) love to crap on someone for dieting or for observing an alternative food lifestyle (vegan, vegetarian, or simply Weight Watchers, etc). I think those various reasons revolve around their insecurities and denial of their not eating well or exercising. It's usually healthy people who I have found to be more supportive. Others think you are spoiling the fun because you are indirectly spoiling their fun.
At the very least, do your best and know that you won't gain as much as you would if you completely gave up--same logic as what got me through the holidays gaining only a pound or two instead of the usual 10 or so.
And as soon as she leaves, you can do two things:
--give away/throw away any remaining junk food
--start back full swing on WW and know that you will lose
This is a lifestyle. It will have swings and ups and downs. Our main goal should be simply striving to maintain the amazing changes we have made for ourselves.
So cheer up and pass the Oreos.

Huge thanks to both of you. The support is truly appreciated. I am so grateful to have this thread to come to when I have trials or celebrations in this lifestyle change. You all have been so invaluable.
I am not going to win this battle against her, all I can do is do my best to exercise extreme self-control and perhaps hope that some of my positive habits will start to rub off. If I can keep my gain to under 5 this month I will be delighted.
Thanks again guys!

Don't let it get you totally down, Colleen. It should just make your resolve stronger for being able to get back into your goal. Easier said than done, I know. Are there things that you can do to get back into an exervise regime? I know sleep is ESSENTIAL, but can you wake up half an hour earlier and get that run/walk in? Can you cut down on the portion sizes of the meals that your Mom makes? Can you increase your veggie intake to offset her meals?
Fight the good fight!

Well, I guess I should OUT myself as a lurker on this thread!
A little backround: I was a fat kid. I lost about 50 pounds the first year of highschool through incredibly intense exercise (running 3-4 miles at a park three times a week) plus not eating anything all day and only eating during a one-hour period, all and everything I wanted. It worked really well, although its probably not the healthiest way to do it. I then got into an off-and-on routine of 30 minutes or more at a very high speed on an elliptical trainer, burning 500 calories each session according to the machine, as well as weight training for a half hour but got away from that as daily partying, etc became a major part of my life for the last 2 years of high school and the first year of college. Without going too in-depth into the gory details: some recreational substances make you hungry but not when used with other recreational substances that remove hunger.
I dropped the drugs about 18 month ago (not neccessarily on my own will, but I have been 100% stone cold sober anyway) and gained about 20 pounds or so. Over the last 9 or 10 months I've been religiously following a new diet/exercise regimen:
I don't eat ANYTHING except during a one-hour period where I eat essentially whatever I want, but always including a minimum of 7 servings of fruit/vegetables and at least 50 grams of protein. Lotsa salads and Boca Burgers (I haven't eaten red meat for 9 years, more so because of what is IN red meat (such as cows eat cows and are shot up with massive amounts of steroids)). Four times a week, I do about 45-55 minutes on an elliptical trainer at a very high speed, always burning minimum of 1000 calories according to the machine, as well as hardcore weight training for 45 minutes. I am 6'4" and now weigh 180, which by all accounts is extremely good on the low-end of the "optimum weight" scale, but i have some skin leftover that im not too pleased about but whatever.
Just wanted to get involved a little bit, as this thread has been suprisingly useful and inspiring (particularly considering its on a Broadway board!)... and I'm curious if any of you have tried a similar diet/exercise regimen and your own personal experiences with it. It's definently not the best way to lose weight, but it works for me.
Thanks for listening!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. With all respect, eating only one hour a day sounds very unhealthy and goes against any and all nutrition advice I have ever heard--conservative or alternative.
In fact, one of the reasons some people have trouble losing weight is by not eating enough and by skipping breakfast.
I would suggest (if my advice is welcome lol) that you learn more about the science of food--how it interacts with the body. This is something we all strive to understand. It is then that we understand what foods and how much and what times of day we should be eating them--this would be an ideal understanding.
Now, for myself, I am not THAT knowing about food. I just follow the Weight Watchers guidelines plus what I have learned from South Beach and Eat Right 4 Your Type. Having a structure allows me to succeed in losing weight, keeping it off, and being healthy.
And on a personal side note I am curious about reports that suggest that cutting most or all animal product from your diet is the healthiest lifestyle. I have opinions that disagree with that, but a very smart (and healthy friend) got my mind buzzing. I doubt I will ever become vegan, but the idea of limiting animal products does intrigue me. And, before anyone gets riled up---this is NOT NOT NOT an animal right's debate. STRICTLY a health and science of food debate.

The Vegetarian/Veganism lifestyle topic is certainly an interesting one, and there is tons of information available now supporting the health benefits of a meat-free diet.
On a personal level, I noticed almost immediate changes in my cholesterol. I am genetically predisposed to high cholesterol. Even family members at normal and below-normal weights are being treated for high cholesterol. My cholesterol was slightly high before switching to a vegetarian diet about a year and a half ago, and since the switch is now easily down in a healthy level. That was definitely a nice perk for myself.
It can be a difficult lifestyle transition for many, however, and can take a bit of commitment. I personally found the transition extremely easy. For me it was primarily about animal rights, when I became aware of the conditions in today's factory farms I just didn't feel comfortable continuing to support that industry by consuming their products. The most difficult part was getting family and friends to remember and respect my vegetarianism and stop trying to force hamburgers on me at the every grill out, but that issue resolved itself over time. I do think the switch to vegetarianism has helped with my weight loss somewhat as it simply limits my meal selections when eating out with friends. We would spend a lot of time in bars and restaurants always ordering greasy burgers, etc. and I am now more likely to order a small salad (or veggie burger, if available) since it's frequently the only vegetarian option on the menu. I can't even imagine how many calories I have avoided as a result.
Anyway, all this to say, if it's something you're interested in Jerby, definitely really consider it. It's a decision that I have not regretted for one single second.
