Good luck, Jerby! Last I saw you, you looked well enough to weather a temporary Texas setback. You just need some...exercise...while you're down there!

After months and months of half-heartedly starting the dieting and stopping again, I'm now down 7 pounds which is great.

Hmmm... Let's see...

sea bass fillet nestled on a bed of baby carrots and string beans, and sliced ginger root and lemon slices. Seasoned with salt, pepper, and some thyme. Two tablespoons of white wine. Cover loosely in a foil packet and steam for 10 minutes. Remove ginger and lemon. Serve fillet with resulting jus spooned on top, with the veggies as sides, and a serving of brown rice.

Bon apetite.

That sounds divine, cookie! Weigh In

Can I use rice wine? It's all I have in my apartment right now, besides cooking sherry.

Of course you can, Calvin! That will give the dish a slightly sweeter flavour.

I did a fabulous sesame encrusted salmon and mixed grilled veggies last night on the grill. Yummy!

What's a grill, SOMMS? I don't know what that is. I live in NYC.

It works just as well under the broiler Singer. Do they have those in NYC?

Ah, the beauties of grilling in the summer, SOMMSy... That does sound quite delish! Did you use any kind of sauce or marinade for the salmon?

I did a marinade of sesame oil, lime juice and a hint of ginger. Then I drenched the filets in the sesame seeds.

Just kidding, Somms. And, yep, I do have a broiler. I haven't broiled a fish in forever, though, and it doesn't help to date a vegetarian.

Sidenote: that's always the best thing about telling anyone you're a vegetarian (say, at a restaurant). They always respond with, "do you eat fish?"
I've never understood the connection to a fish being a plant.

It is odd, bway, but it's an understandable question, I guess. A coworker of mine considers herself a vegetarian but eats fish every once in a while. Her vegetarianism is not for any moral reasons -- she just does not like the taste of meat.

Have you tried the same technique with tuna steaks, SOMMS-y? Sounds like it would work just as well!

did I really stumble in here during a discussion about eating fish or eating meat? Really?
