I'm doing the old Winning Points on my own (sort of like Flex, but with a daily points range, rather than set points), because I had the materials from years ago. For under 150 lbs., I get 18-23 pts. a day. 18 is too few for a hungry girl like me. I always go up to 23, sometimes even up to 25, but I exercise daily, so I guess I'm earning activity points. It all seems to work out by the end of the week. Down 10 lbs in six weeks, so I must be doing something right.
I don't count points for everything. For example, I don't measure or count the milk in my coffee. For me, that's just too much obsessing (which is what my issue was with WW before!), but I think some people really do need that structure. Doesn't work for me though, so I semi-journal. Everything in moderation, right? That includes journaling for me.
I was thinking of joining WW again, just to see what the Core Plan is about. It sounds South Beachian with a few extra treats for good measure, which sounds pretty good! Can you do Core online or would it require meetings?
ETA: I found the info. on the WW web site (duh, peach!). Looks like one can do either program online.

Woo hoo!
After weeks of vacations, parental visits and illness, I finally got back to the gym today. I was expecting the worst when I stepped on the scale. The parental visit had a week of mom cooking, and the vacation had a few days of French cooking.
Somehow? I was at 168 pounds with shoes on. Down almost five pounds since my last time on a scale. I realize that I probably lost some muscle mass. But I was still able to get through my weight routine pretty much where I'd left off without trouble, so it can't be that bad. And this is the first time I've weighed this little in a LONG time.

I wasn't gonna weigh myself until Thursday (my weigh in day) but I needed some inspiration as I am going NUTS not having some of my fave foods for a few days.
After 3 days, I have lost 2 pounds--probably more as I never weigh myself before breakfast.
Sigh. I guess I can hold out a lil longer. But hopefully I will never have to give my faves up again!

Go jerby!
For everyone...
I made up a little dessert last night I thought I'd share. I was having a craving for apple crisp or pie or something of that sort, so I came up with this. It was very tasty and about 3 to 3.5 pts.
Peel and thinly slice up an apple. Sprinkle with some cinnamon and 1 packet of your fave fake sweetener (I used Sweet n Low). Microwave 1 minute. (1 pt)
Then, take 2 Tbs Cracklin Oat Bran cereal and smash 'em up into bits. This cereal is high in calories, but it tastes like oatmeal cookies. It's yummy and worth having around, IMO! (1 pt)
Stir your hot apples up with the cinnamon goodness. Sprinkle the crushed Cracklin' Oat Bran over the top.
Then top with about 1/4 cup of something vanilla, yummy and frozen. I like Edy's slow-churned light ice cream in French Vanilla. (Probably 1.5 pts in that 1/4 cup).
You have mock apple crisp that tastes pretty damn good. It's 3, or 3.5 pts. tops, depending on the amount of cereal and the point count of the ice cream you choose.
Yummy autumn goodness!

i am not really apart of this discussion, really, but i think being vegetarian helps you lose a lot of weight for some reason
maybe its just puberty, but from the time i became a vegetarian (when i was in middle school, and did it for a girl i liked) to like 3 years later, i have lost a bunch of weight, havent done anything differently from what i did 3 years ago, and yeah
plus, you dont have to live with killing innocent cows who just moo, and mind their own business, then boom!...they're dead
very sad i thin
yeah

I personally didn't lose any weight when I made the transition to vegetarianism. Fatty meats were never a substantial part of my diet anyway, most of my calories were coming from junk like simple carbohydrates. In fact, I'd say I struggled a little bit when I made the switch because I had fewer food options and was consuming even more carbs than I had been before.
And how much weight do you consider "a bunch" over a three year period?

While there are interesting theories that being a vegan (possibly only being a vegetarian) is excellent for one's health and such, it's just not an option for everyone.
And if you believe in the science behind Eat Right 4 Your Type, you believe that certain blood types NEED meat while other do benefit from cutting meat.
But, I do not wish for this thread to become THAT debate. The great thing about WW is that you can utilize it no matter what other philosophies you have about food.
And, speaking of which, I just finished Day 5 of South Beach meets WW and it's getting easier--but that's the point of South Beach. The first 2 weeks are about getting rid of cravings--cleansing the body's wanting bad carbs, etc. I can't wait to return to certain foods soon though!

I read a really interesting study that shows even protein-needy bodies don't really need as much protein as we think we do.
I've been switching (mainly because the BF is a veggie-head) to lots of substitute foods and you can't tell the difference, they have just as much protein as their meat counterparts...AND they're lower calories.
I can eat sandiwches stacked with veggie chicken slices whereas before I had to put one slice on there for calories' sake.
The best part about it all is that, somehow, even my bad weekends (like this weekend!) of all-veggie stuff (granted, we do eat pretty healthy/organic stuff) don't affect me. In fact, I lost half a pound over the weekend.

I don't like dieting.
I watch what I eat, but really for heath reason and not to weight reasons. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the weight you loose from dieting is only temporary UNLESS you plan on eating like that for the rest of your life. Obviously, those that are dieting know more about it than I, but as soon as you start "eating normally," the weight almost always comes right back on. Look at Oprah.

I think it's less "eating normally" as much as "eating like a pig."
I know a few people who do have phyiscal or psychological problems which prevent them from losing weight but there is a significant amount of weight to be gained and maintained simply by gorging yourself on bad things.
So the yo-yo effect happens when people do something like Weight Watchers - which is a controlled calorie, low fat diet - and find success with it only to return to their old state of pigging out on the Ben and Jerry's nightly, then wonder why they ballooned back into their fat pants.

People who go to meetings qualify for "Lifetime" after they get to their goal and are encouraged to continue with meetings for free as long as they keep the weight off.

You know it, Yoda. The best thing WW or any other diet can teach you is to limit your amount of food in a sitting. Of course, if you follow it explicitly, it'll trend you towards healthier choices for meals and snacks anyway, something you should hopefully keep when you go off a counted calorie diet.
By the way, Munk, unless you've packed 'em on in a year, you're one of the last people I would think need a diet anyway.

"Isn't it easier to just work out"
No.
You have to do a combination of eating properly and working out, and it is not the same for everyone.
As Bway stated, the idea of WW in particular is to change your psychology about food, to move you toward healthier foods most of the time (not all of the time) and for life.
