In case you're not familiar with Troy Davis, he's a black man convicted of the murder of a cop in Georgia many years ago. He was convicted with no physical evidence or forensics, based strictly on witness testimony. Since his conviction, many witnesses have recanted or been discredited. Despite this, he has exhausted his appeals, and his execution is scheduled for today. He has politicians from both sides of the aisle calling for clemency, and his case has gained worldwide attention.

I struggle to find words to express my outrage.

It's absolutely ridiculous and unspeakably racist that Davis will be executed based on the most unreliable form of evidence--especially considering that seven of the nine witnesses have recanted. Seven! I share your outrage and your inability to verbalize it, Brian.

"The U.S. Supreme Court granted Davis a hearing to prove his innocence, the first time it had done so for a death row inmate in at least 50 years. At that June 2010 hearing, two witnesses testified that they falsely incriminated Davis at his trial when they said Davis confessed to the killing. Two others told the judge the man with Davis that night later said he shot MacPhail."

I can't believe Georgia is going through with this...

Reportedly, Troy Davis is on a gurney in the execution chamber, awaiting the supreme court decision. I don't know if he's guilty or not, but this is wrong.

This is truly despicable. If 7 out of 9 witnesses recanting doesn't raise a reasonable doubt, then what does?

And in general the idea of state-supported homicide (because that's what the coroner will be putting on his death certificate) is anathema to me.

This is horribly disturbing. No matter how you feel about the death penalty, I can't fathom how you could proceed with an execution where basically no evidence stands.

I'm reminded of The Scottsboro Boys right now. Even when witnesses have the courage to come forward and say they lied risking punishment themselves, their stories aren't believed.

This is sick and it is wrong.

It reminded me a lot of the Scottsboro Boys too. I don't believe Troy Davis would be facing execution right now were he a white man.

The SCOTUS has denied his appeal, and his execution appears to be imminent. Right now, I am ashamed of our country.

Maybe Mr. Davis should have incorporated, then I am sure they would have protected him.

How much discretion do the supreme court actually have? It's not a matter of their own personal opinion I understand, but of upholding the law and constitution as written. I just don't get it. No dissent. Bizzare.

Jay, in tonight's request not much, the Court had previously reviewed the matter. In terms of the interpretaton of the 8th Amendment the Court has the final answer and the Court had erred.

No,the President can only pardon federal crimes. This was a state murder case.

I hope with all the evidence suing he was truly innocent, that his family is able to sue the shlt out of the state.
