I kinda did... When Diva said that we had sex, the best I could come up with was "Two bottoms don't make a top". I couldn't said no, but that's not as fun.

That lends me to ask, how close are you to someone if you don't know their sexual preference?

You guys don't have anything on the 25¢ Gay Boi. He has probably dated most of the races he offends! I don't know if that means he really doesn't know which races of men he's slept with or he doesn't know which groups of people he offends, but either way this is deep and gut-wrenching stuff.

He's right that he's got us talking, but that's really probably the worst thing for a person who clearly has no appreciation for the craft of writing and just wants to blather on about some arbitrary and fuzzy self-imposed goal.

I get navel gazing. I even blogged for a while myself back in the day. The difference between him and me is that I know how to construct sentences that are almost always easily readable. And occasionally even entertaining. I don't mean to suggest that this in any way makes me unique; there are scores of people all over the internet, on this very board, that are clever or entertaining or even just get by how likable they are. Unfortunately at this point Gay Boi is none of these things

I'm sorry this youngish man didn't get to go to college (if that's what he wanted). He has already inferred that there was something going on with him in high school that caused him to only barely slide by and I'm sorry about that, too. Maybe that's a subject he could explore in a future entry, if he's capable for the kind of introspection that sort of writing requires.

If you are choosing the written word as your means of communication with the world - because you feel that what you have to say is so important or interesting or funny or whatever - that you think other people would want to read it, then you should really try to make an at least a half-assed attempt to make it readable.

Phyllis, in his update today he referenced his days attending AMDA so that means he would have had to graduate high school and would have attended at least some college. My sense is, if he didn't finish college, it's probably mostly due to... well let's just say he doesn't appear to possess the highest level of drive, perseverance and discipline.

For some reason I thought AMDA was just a certificate program.

College isn't for everyone, and there's no shame in not having gone or not being able to finish. But again, if you're going to choose to communicate with people through writing, it wouldn't hurt to at least make some kind of effort to correctly execute the basic mechanics or English. And maybe not be so damn defensive about criticism, even if the criticism is harsh. It's not like he hadn't presented himself as someone who has a catty bon mot (maybe just a bon) for the vast majority of human beings he encounters.

He's right that people shouldn't wish violence upon him, even in jest. People should be better than that.

Unless there's been a very recent change AMDA is a certificate program. No college degree is earned and you don't need any previous college credits to enroll.

I'm starting to have compassion for him. Not because of his blog, but because, to paraphrase Thoreau, we all lead lives of not-so-quiet desperation. His desperation is just comparatively petty and poorly expressed.

I've been a little uncomfortable with this pile-on from the get-go because he's just so thoroughly clueless. If he weren't clueless, he wouldn't carry on in this manner. Perhaps that's where empathy finally begins.

I don't think I'll read any more of his blog. He's not a good writer and I don't find anything remarkable about him. He seems like an everyday guy who lacks likable qualities.

Right, he's just a dip, and an unexceptional one at that. It's almost cruel to make him a target. Or maybe just unnecessary. He do's it to himself.

In hindsight I think that's what it really comes down to when you really think about it. In re-reading his blog posts he comes off as ignorant.

In extending some sort of empathy and compassion his way I hope it raises some awareness in him about some of the things he's written about, especially about people from other races/backgrounds.

But for all the joking around and goofing off I've done on this thread I really don't wish him any harm.

No, nor do I. As I said before, for all I know he really is a nice guy who's unaware of how he's coming off (though his defending his use of stereotyping might indicate otherwise). And he's certainly not alone in thinking that snark is the whole point of social media.

I feel like there is a big leap between thinking someone is an a-hole and wanting harm to come to them. This jackass turned someone's post into a threat...it clearly was not, and it seems it is now taken as fact.

Top or bottom, he's just a jerk!

Worse than that, he's not funny and cannot write. One of those things should be present if you are writing a blog. Giving him a pass as being "clueless" doesnt work for me.

Yes. I agree with you Reginald. I've been guilty of over-doing the snark on these boards. I'll admit I get carried away sometimes, but I'm far from the only one either. With that being said sometimes it takes someone to hold up a mirror to us so we can be aware of how we are coming off.

If anything I hope my directing him to this thread was that mirror.

I didn't do it to be mean or to be spiteful or even "one up" him. I just wanted him to be aware.

If he continues to be a jerk, then that's on him.

Yeah, it's super tricky, doodle, and why empathy, despite being one of the most important things -- maybe the most important thing -- about being a functional human being, can be tremendously difficult to extend.

I'm reminded of the question asked at the end of 'Magnolia':

"What can we forgive? Tough part of the job. Tough part of walking down the street."

You hope people have introspection. You hope people can learn and grow from self-awareness and take social cues. But as I'm getting on in my life, I'm understanding more and more that, for some people, that's extremely difficult, and in some cases, it's not just because they're stubborn jerks; it's just not in their chemistry.

idk tricky, tricky
