My kids insisted that I watch this movie with them (on Netflix).
What an incredibly sick movie! Roger Ebert wouldn't even give it any stars! Now I have to see how this stupid thing ends! What I don't do for my kids!

Posted: 12/23/10 at 11:17pmHehe - there was a long (and frankly, overly detailed) thread about this movie on this very board not too long ago. If you want discussion, you can search for it, but I don't particularly care to revisit it if I can at all avoid it. =P

Posted: 12/23/10 at 11:23pmThanks wonderwaiter. I obviously didn't do a search and the movie is almost over. I keep looking over at my son- a movie enthusiast and an actor and he has this silly smirk on his face! He'll say this part's not that bad and then he'll put his hand in front of his face! Good times!

Posted: 12/23/10 at 11:34pmWell- when I did a search- only my posts came up from tonight. Maybe I don't know the proper parameters to enter. Anyway- the movie just ended and my daughter said- I can't believe we watched that! I can't believe that there will be another movie on this! My son has seen this movie 3 times in the last couple of days because he keeps showing it to his friends. He's so weird-lol! He gets a kick out of watching people's reactions.

#15'The Human Centipede'- WTF?
Posted: 12/24/10 at 6:26pmKasie- I said the same thing to my son about the acting! I even looked up where the female leads went to school. They were soooo annoying! My son said I had to stick it out! Today- he had me watching Blue Velvet with him! Guess he's on a strange movie kick!
#16'The Human Centipede'- WTF?
Posted: 12/24/10 at 7:16pmWhat did you think of BLUE VELVET? Its one of my favorite films.
#17'The Human Centipede'- WTF?
Posted: 12/24/10 at 7:34pmJordan- Blue Velvet was a very strange movie indeed. Gotta love Dennis Hopper's dialog. It certainly kept my interest as I had to keep watching to see how it eneded. I haven't done any research but why was it called Blue Velvet? I also really liked Dean Stockwell's lip sync to Roy Orbison and it was nice seeing Hope Lange again. Kyle looked so good in the film. My daughter walked in half way through and asked if that was Orson from Desperate Housewives. Why do you like the film Jordan? and Merry Christmas! Right now, we're watching South Park Christmas episodes- we're so weird-lol!

It's a bad film. There's no denying that.
To be fair about the acting, the audition was literally bringing actors in the room in pairs, showing them the diagram of how the human centipede connected, then asking if they were comfortable working that intimately with two other actors. If yes, they were positioned accordingly and given a few lines. Considering it was a very low budget independent feature by a first time director, I don't think many actors were banging on the doors begging for the role. I think the director even said only the two girls cast were comfortable with the audition scenario and excited to try it out; the other guy in the centipede actually asked to be in the film.
The sequel is supposed to be a very different film. The director just wanted the potential audience to get past the gross-out factor before creating his 12-member centipede for the actual film. That one allegedly has a plot and characters and everything. Allegedly. I'm not holding my breath.

trentsketch- thanks for the background information! However, I still can't get some of the images out of my mind- it's not pretty! My son the actor defended the cast by saying- It's Work! Sometimes you take what you can get- and I understand that but honestly- yuck!
BTW Jordan- you didn't answer my question about Blue Velvet-lol!

I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here. I liked The Human Centipede.
You know why? It's a big, amazing sick joke.
It barely shows anything at all. It's like a Hitchcock movie. But it f*cks with your mind, and it's original. It has every horror movie aspect: stupid girls, a creepy doctor...but amplified.
It's not for everyone, but I personally thought it accomplished what a horror movie should: something that completely warps your brain, a few standout performances if that (because c'mon- acting is not the important part. In fact, it's the least important part. You're supposed to keep wandering, "ARE THEY THAT STUPID OR ARE THEY JUST BAD ACTORS?!") it entertains and sucks you in.
And please, HC2 will not bomb. All the press, bad or good, is still press, and people WILL see it.

Posted: 12/28/10 at 11:28amrom- I definitely see your points (and I believe that's why my son has coaxed so many people into watching it)- and they are valid- IMO- however, I just can't get certain images out of my head and I'm not sure I can see the next movie- but then again- I said that about Saw. I'll have to see how strong my curiosity is! (since we never saw the middle of the centipede actually die- maybe she'll show up in the next movie) Also- what's missing is an African American character- they always get killed first-lol! (and please, I don't mean that in a racial way- I'm just being sarcastic. African Americans seem to get kicked off reality shows first- or at least close to first- it's kind of a running joke in my house)

lol! Trent, I don't even know where to start!

Wow. I just don't understand the logic of assuming that you can retain an audience for your follow-up film if the original stinks.
