Writing to you today on the day of the 2019 Canadian federal elections. I'm watching the live CBC News Network streaming of the Election Canada new, although I could head to CTV News or Global--and sporting a red Nike Canada Basketball longsleeve T-shirt as I'm writing this for the occasion. Yeah, I'm a Canada geek despite being an American! Polls are officially closed in Newfoundland-Labrador with the rest of the Atlantic Canada provinces' polls--Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick--close to closing as I write this. He's currently in the fight of his national political life to ave his PMship running neck and neck against Conservative leader Andrew Scheer. This election seems more about rhetoric rather than pledges. We could possibly see a minority majority in the House of Commons in Ottawa's Parliament Hill when this is done tonight with neither the two major parties--Liberals and Conservatives--reaching the 170 seats claimed for a majority out of 338 and somewhere above the 38.5%. Personally, I hope for significant gains for both the NDP and the Greens in seats--and ousting Maxime Bernier of the People's Party of Canada. Election results are becoming too close to call. If you know your Canadian history, his legendary dad Pierre Elliot faced a sophomore campaign run in 1972 that's remarkably similar to what Justin is dealing with in some ways.
Must say that Justin Trudeau has been in his four years as PM has been somewhat disappointing a bit to me despite his global charm like scrapping preportional elections, and not talking and doing enough on the Indigenous issues. Canada as a soft power brand, however, has never been better with its pop stars like Drake, Alessia Cara, Shania Twain, Ryan Reynolds, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, Seth Rogan, and Justin Bieber all conquering, The Toronto Raptors won the NBA title and MLSE bro Toronto FC won the MLS Cup, bringing in and welcoming immigrants, sending peacekeeping troops, . Still like the guy but I, platform-wise, am more like Jagmeet Singh and Elizabeth May in my tastes, although I do like some Liberals. Still learning about the Liberal MPs. Trudeau is in Montreal right now with family watching the election results.
