re: The Official 'brag about your best roles' Thread :-)

So excited! I was just cast as Lauretta in Puccini's Gianni Schicci (I get to sing the famous Aria "O Mio Babbino Cara") and as the opera diva in Sicillian Limes (which means I get to wear an amazing costume!!) we are doing them as 2 one-acts on the same night.

I'm so happy...I'll be taking tons of pictures :)
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

Hinzie- the The Pajama Game. This was the best production I've ever been in. The production quality was amazing. (I Should post a photo)
Hilton Barber in Dead Man Walking. Not so much the role, but the show. I was so lucky to get cast. We toured a nearby federal prison for research, and wound up going back just before we opened to perform it for some of the prisoners. I still kicking myself for not calling Babba Wawwa.

The best part is they were in the same school year!

Ok, so I was The Witch in Into the Woods, which was pretty much rad, no questions asked.
However... I just got the role of Pridament in "The Illusion" by Tony Kushner (which is a fantastic play; everyone should read it. It's very symbolic and deep and emotional). My character is a down-to-earth, depressed, and dying father who has ventured to a magician's cave to locate his only son, whom he had banished 15 years before. Because we're changing my part to female (I'm not so good at playing dying old men; believe me, I've tried), I'm going to have loads of fun investigating the mother-son dynamic that is apparant throughout the play.

I swear, everyone needs to read the play. It's completely written in contemporary Shakespearean free verse, and the diction is fantastic. Plus, the twist ending provides a very interesting dimension to the story...

re: The Official 'brag about your best roles' Thread :-)

let's see, my favorite roles

my first role was Ida in "Honk!" when one of my best friends got to play Ugly, so that was fun....besides the little children who played the ducklings...UGH
then I moved on to Wendy in "Peter Pan" which was DEFINITELY a huge learning experience for me because I had to play this character that has been known around the world, but it was just so much fun. That and I got speak with an English accent. THAT was fun!
Next was Cinderella/Rapunzel in "Into the Woods." The explanation for the (/) is that I was originally cast as Rapunzel since I was able to sing that high since I'm the only trained lyric soprano at my school. Then, the girl playing Cinderella had to step out, and my dream part was given to me a week and a half before the show....EEK! But I pulled it off and it was wonderful!
Then was the Mistress/Eva U.S. in "Evita." "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" is probably the prettiest song in the whole show and was so lucky to sing such a beautiful song. And to be the understudy of someone who I thought was amazing was quite an honor and a lot of hard work, especially when she got sick during tech week, THAT scared me. But I never had to play Eva, which is kinda disappointing, but it all worked out in the end. re: The Official 'brag about your best roles' Thread :-)
And my favorite ensemble roles were in "Les Mis" (Older Cosette's U.S.) and "Joseph...."

Straight Shows
Prunella-Christopher Durang's "Cankersores and Other Distractions"
Betty- Christopher Ives' "Sure Thing"

And auditions for "Little Women, the Musical" at a community theatre and "Sweeney Todd" at my high school are coming up.

I would looove to be Beth or Amy in LW
And I'm dying to be Johanna in ST
Vita Brevis, Ars Longas....

On and last November (2006) I played Martha in TSG! I was the YOUNGEST lead at the tender grade of, as the Seniors call us, "Freshmeat"

Some of my best roles have been:

Golde - The Fiddler on the Roof
Mrs. Potts - Beauty and the Beast
Matron Mama Morton - Chicago
Kristine - A Chorus Line
Mayzie - Seussical the Musical

I had a lot of fun with those roles...and they're generally considered larger roles, thereby fitting within the topic of this thread! =]

I just finished two great shows. First was Little Women the musical, in which I played Amy. That was the most amazing show experience I have ever had. Amazing cast, amazing director, amazing show in general! Then my high school just put on Kiss Me, Kate, in which I got to play Kate/Lilli. Let me tell you, there is nothing like singing "I Hate Men" to a packed house. Incredible. And I love anytime I get to do Pirates of Penzance. I've done it twice already (once as a Ward, and once as Edith), and I would LOVE to do it again. Maybe as Mabel next time....eh, a girl can dream right?

Horton in Seussical is my first big lead at a high school age. Not bad for a freshman I'll say.

And I just got the Minstrel in Once Upon a Mattress. Yay!

I got Cindy's prince in Into the Woods, beating out tons of upper classmen in the process, which was also great because I got to sing everyone's favorite song, Agony!

Then I was Audrey 2 in Little Shop, and when I came on for the curtain call, no one could believe I was white.

I've had a lot of really great opportunities in the past few years but my best/fav roles would be:

The Governor in Candide
John in john & jen
Kodaly in She Loves Me
Cladwell in Urinetown (this up-coming spring, uber stoked for this one)

Kathy in Company has been one of the favorite roles... mostly due to the fact that I LOVED our cast and had an amazing time during the entire rehearsal process and run of the show. :)

And now I'm Mexican Woman in Streetcar Named Desire, so that should be really fun!
