None of the comments I've seen mentioned Adam - where are they?

#1001re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eight

No, they didn't mention Adam directly. I think someone using the name "Mimi" commented a few times wishing the best to her family or something... I mean, that's sweet, but come on. "Mimi"? That's a bit... obvious.

Maybe I'm just cynical (sorry, bad day), but I just found it a bit odd. If you want to contact her to ask about Adam, at least be up front about it. Updated On: 3/11/06 at 04:59 PM

I mean I only know her through Adam. And I have no intentions of buying her book, seeing as how I don't like cooking and also I don't have any food allergies. But I think it's neat to finally see what her personality is really like, instead of what we've seen through pictures. After reading a few of her blogs, I really enjoy her.

Ah, I see what you mean. I doubt if she cares much why someone is commenting, on the "no such thing as bad publicity" theory.

I did buy her book, to see what she wrote in it about Adam and the kids, and because she's got some information on organic and health foods, which I'm into. Of course, reason #1 was quite a bit more important that reason #2. The recipes look very good though. I've tried one, but screwed it up by misreading one of the ingredients. I'm going to try her bean stew next. She uses three or four kinds of dried beans plus limas, seasoned with lime juice and herbs. Should be interesting.

Hey all!

Chloe, the three bean w/ lime juice seasoning sounds awesome. Let us know how it turns out. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eight

So how did reason #1 for purchasing the book work out? re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eight

i've written about this before, but for those who missed it...

The dedication is to a number of people, including Adam ("I know you married me for my cooking"). In the introduction, she writes quite a bit about the situation with Lennon, who at two months became very sick with severe rashes and digestive upsets. She says that "ee were tearing our hair out" for a while until he was finally diagnosed with food allergies. He was actually reacting through breastfeeding to what Cybele was eating, so she had to severely restrict her diet, which led to her developing all these recipes. Since she comes from a family with strong and varied cooking traditions, and actually cooked for a living for a long time, this wasn't so difficult for her.

The recipes are often nicely personalized, describing how they were adapted from recipes of various family members like Adam's grandmother, or how one is his favorite comfort food, or what made Lennon say "yum" for the first time. It's a really nice cookbook.

Chloe, thanks-- sorry I made you repeat yourself, though.

That's wonderful-- thank you so much for sharing!

Off to dinner with the family myself-- y'all have a wonderful evening!! re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eight

You're probably right, Chloe. Again, I was probably just being overly cynical. I did find it a bit strange, but I'm truly not in the position to judge what is acceptable.

I'm not planning on buying the cookbook as, well, I absolutely loathe cooking. Frankly, my parents would wonder why I purchased any book remotely related to cooking! I do admire her devotion to helping those with food allergies, though. I know a few people with them and they most certainly do not sound like fun.

Don't worry about your cynicism, Lexi. It can be quite refreshing at times!

From what she writes this problem kind of took over their lives for a while. The fact that Adam has never (as far as I know) said anything about it just goes to show the flip side to his bluntness. He either spills it completely or says nothing at all.

Heh, thanks, Chloe. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eight

Perhaps it's because he's never really been given an outlet for it? It would be a bit bizarre if he randomly started chatting about it during an interview promoting Rent or one of this other shows.

That's true, though interviewers have asked him about how his kids are. The guy who interviewed him after the Kean concert with the very pregnant Daphne even asked him if he had any advice for her. But you're right that it probably wouldn't be a very good forum to bring it up in. I just keep remembering his one word reply to a long convoluted question about his tattoo - "no"

I think it's a bit like when people ask you how your day is going. Very rarely do you hear someone reply with anything more than "fine." I'd venture to say that if someone specifically asked about his children's food allergies, he'd probably be fine with discussing them. Considering he supported his wife in writing a cookbook discussing their children -- or at least allowed her to re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part eight -- I doubt he's trying to keep the information a secret.

LOL to your last sentence. I know it's a love knot, but has he ever even talked about his tattoo?

That's a very good analogy. I also doubt if he was trying to keep tha allergy problem secret, just wonder if he personally doesn't like talking about it.

And no, I don't think he's *ever* discussed the tattoo, beyond saying that it's a Celtic love knot.

SG, I'm so glad you enjoyed the show. I was going to take a look at the tour schedule to see if perhaps Wicked would be in DC soon. Wonderful stuff!

Chloe and Lexi, great discussion re: topics of conversation that Adam tends to hit. Family is so personal, and it seems like he tends to be fairly private about that sort of thing. He's clearly a proud Dad, but I can't say I blame him for not bringing his kids into his "public" persona.

Or maybe I've just not read enough of his interviews?

I'm glad you had such a good time, Shiksa.

Kim, I think I've read everything available online, and can say that there definitely seems to be a personal line he draws. He doesn't go for any of the confessional stuff about his childhood, old girlfriends, co-workers or family. He talks about himself to a certain extent, but not other people.

I think that's because he said a lot of things to the press when he was younger and first starting Rent that he regrets saying now, and now realizes how to deal with the media better and where to draw the line.

Chloe, that was my take as well. I've got a little one myself, and as a parent, I'm extremely cautious about the information I share with people. I can't imagine how much more careful I'd be in the public forum. It's interesting, the tack Adam takes, as Anthony talked about how he was careful in writing Without You to tell his story, not other people's story. Seems like he and Adam may share a similar philosophy.

RE: Wicked, I just checked the tour schedule. They are going to Toronto, but the closest it gets to me is Atlanta. Six one, half dozen the other. I'd be better served to travel to NYC!

I know they're going to Toronto. I have my ticket already. Julia's run is up like two stops before that though.

Thanks for the cookbook review, Chloe. I'd consider buying it, I won't lie, as most of you know I do dig cooking. But I haven't found it in a store where I could flip through it just to kind of check out the recipes. I'm looking forward to the Today show tomorrow...

Shiksa, glad you liked Julia in Wicked! I still dislike you all that get to see her...

It's been a long day...we went shopping and I didn't find a dang thing (rarely happens, and is quite depressing). I'm about to be off to Starbucks with a friend for a little catch up time :)

The medication finally seems to be working. I can only really feel it a little, or when I bend down.

Oh, girl. I'm glad the medication is starting to kick in. It sucks being sick, and sinus stuff is just the worst.
