The Official Gerard Butler Love Thread

Posted: 4/5/05 at 10:34amYeah. Only a little while longer until POTO. Then I can bug my parents even more with the music. Hehehehe. Evil me. But yeah that's exciting. Gerry looked good, but funny with longish hair and a mustache in Mrs. Brown.

I hate his voice.
A wonderful actor.

Posted: 4/5/05 at 12:41pmDol, maybe THAT'S what we should see together. I didn't think he looked terrible with the wig and stuff, it looked a bit odd but cute. And Jamie, I appreciate your admitting that he was a great actor, as many who hated his voice just dissed him and gave him no credit for the rest.

I posted this on the "controversy" thread but I figured I'd post it here b/c I'm sure most of you would agree with me...
Actually went to reread this thread since I'm now completely in love with Gerard Butler and have now seen the movie 7 times. Obviously I mostly agreed with those who liked him, disagreed with most who disliked him but one quote really got to me: "whenever he embraces Christine, the lack of passion is astounding." What?? I could hardly believe the amazing passion between to the two, particularly Point of No Return, waht a great scene. I actually even read somewhere that Patrick Wilson was crying real tears because he just couldn't believe the chemistry between the two. Just had to get that out. Hrmph.

Posted: 4/5/05 at 7:11pmThat's cool! Gotta love when that happens. It's pretty amazing. I thought the chemistry between Gerry and Emmy was a little more passionate than the chemistry between Patrick and Emmy. Both were really good. Maybe it was the fact that I actually wanted to like the Phantom this time rather than love Raoul. Also because in the stage production I saw there was hardly any chemistry between any of the actors that it was hard to like any of the characters. But I totally agree with you wrq.

Posted: 4/6/05 at 12:48amYaay Racetrack between the two of us, we won't let it, as long as we both have someone to talk to other than oursevles we can keep it alive. That's surprising that you loved Raoul in the show, from the first time I saw it I liked the Phantom much better. I did have a pretty ugly Raoul but I don't think that was my issue, the Phantom just seemed more like a believable and real character, and Gerry only furthered that for me in the movie. Like I said, I've always liked the Phantom but Gerry moved me to feel for him more than any stage Phantom I've seen.

Yeah. Well I liked my Phantom who was Ted Keegan at the time, but there was just no chemistry or anything between any of the characters and so I couldn't really like anyone in the show. I think I liked Meg, but then she wasn't a shreeky(I know I spelled that wrong) person like in other recordings I heard. I honestly don't remember much about the one I saw onstage because it was so long ago, but what I do remember is having "Phantom of the Opera" stuck in my head for the rest of the night which my parents didn't particularly like. I liked the movie because you could see that the relationship gap that was lacked before was there. Plus you get a cast with Gerry, Emmy, and Patrick that's pretty cool! Plus also Emmy is closer the age that Christine is supposed to be, which I also liked. I saw her in Passionada last year and loved her in that.

Good Morning! Hello!

Yeah, it was nice for the movie to get a closer view of everything that was going on. What was also interesting was how differernt things could be viewed. For example, I was mad when after he told Christine he loved her, she just gave him back the ring and said nothing. But after talking to some people and getting different opinions, I saw it differently--that she was giving him the ring to further show that he is not alone, and it was a sweet sentiment.
Same with the graveyard scene--again, seeing things from a new twist. Some people suggested that Rauol getting the monkey box which was the Phantom's and then giving it to Christine's grave was his way of ackowledging peace with the whle situation, and acknowledging that while Christine was his in life, she is the Phantom's in death. Maybe that's stretching it a little, but I really liked viewing it that way, being so much more in favor of Phantom/Christine than Rauol/Christine. Also, like I said having read "Phantom" it just gives you such a different perspective and you can't help but feel they're more connected than it seems on the surface.
And...I love Gerry!

I totally agree. I liked the book, but in the Leurox(spelling?) I just couldn't feel sorry for the Phantom. I'm looking to find the other book you recommended as well. So we'll see. I have tons of other books I have to read so there you go.
I like Raoul getting the monkey back and putting it on the grave and having the red rose there as well was really cool. I like being able to have sympathy for the Phantom and not just view him as an ugly man who happens to be a bit nutty. So getting the sympathy and having that was great.

Nope, instead you have a hot and sexy Phantom who understandably gets a bit nutty but is obviously just really hurt by the world. I just think there's a part of the character that all of us could relate to. Rauol's just a very nice but pretty rich kid, and is just not as relatable. But Gerry just captures all the character's emotions perfectly. It's so great.
Yeah, good luck with the book. I'm pretty sure it's out of print, so your best bet would be internet like amazon.com, or local libraries, that's where I read mine.

I could try Half Price books or Twice Sold Tales here in Seattle. Lots of fun.
Yeah I agree about Raoul. Not quite as easy to relate to as the Phantom on some level or other.
Gotta go to class now. Ugh!

Bump! Told ya between the two of us, we'll carry this thread along.
Let's see umm...how's the quest to see Dear Frankie going? I'm getting a distinct feeling it won't be playing here so I'm really glad I got to see it in DC. Still gotta see Dracula 2000 and Mrs. Brown, so yeah...I woke up half an hour ago, very odd for me, so good afternoon!

Well since I'm going out of town for spring break I can't go see it with Nick (boyfriend) then, but hopefully after that we can. Yesterday I got Harrison's Flowers in the mail. I haven't quite gotten to it yet, but I'm going to.
Mrs. Brown is one of my favorite movies now. It's really good. If you like Judi Dench(of course Gerry's an added plus) then you'll probably like it.
Bump

Posted: 4/8/05 at 1:05amI remember she got lots of raves that year...was that...Titanic year? I remember...yes it was, because Helen Hunt won and said she really thought Judi should have won-wow, great memory. I haven't really seen her in much, but I thought she was great in Shakespeare in Love. But yes, I will see it regardless for Gerry, when I gain some time again. Today I actually slept till 2:30 and missed an appointment, that's soo late for me. Oh well. I love Gerry! I think I should add that to my signature or something..
#91re: The official Gerard Butler love thread
Posted: 4/8/05 at 1:20am
That would be cool. I would add it. I currently like my signature and I don't want Nick to think anything about what I say in that. Heheh. But he knows he's the only one for me so it's all good. Sorry I don't mean to gush about my boyfriend, but I can't do that at school so there you go.
Yeah Judi Dench was good in Shakespeare in Love. That's part of the reason I like that movie so much. Very good.

Posted: 4/9/05 at 1:12pmYou're the third person to call me missy in the last 3 days...odd. Anywayz, no like we decided in chat yesterday, if you hook up with Mikey, then I do get Gerry all to myself! Ha ha ha.
#98re: The official Gerard Butler love thread
Posted: 4/9/05 at 4:48pmyes, but i can almost guarantee that there will be no hooking up with mikey, as you insist on calling him. so therefore... you still have to share.
