I really want someone to put out Marla out of her misery. I think she's amazing for putting up such a good fight, but seeing her so anxious doesn't bring the right drama to the show. Mostly it makes me very uncomfortable and sad for her because she really is trying. But I admit her black imitation Chloe dress last night was truly hideous.

It's been said, but I'll it again. I dislike Nikky for the simple fact that she gave Santino an even bigger ego than what he had before. He's so full of himself, it really irks me! I really liked Nick's(?) dress, the pretty flowy blue one. I think he's right about being just as good as Santino he just doesn't have the annoying "holier-than-thou" attitude that Santino has, which apparently helps you get somewhere in the buisnes even though it drives others mad. I kind of felt badly for Marla but that dress really was an exact, yet ugly, copy of the Chloe dress. I thought for sure she would get voted off.

Re-watched the lingerie episode last night, where Daniel fell on his sword and Santino was such an a**hole and, as Heidi put it--"cowardly".

I have a theory that the judges actually voted to boot Santino off, and the Weinsteins (the producers) made them keep him, since he makes better reality TV drama.

Think about it--Heidi said to Daniel that she was sorry he had to go, and she wished he could stay longer. Well--she's the judge--why couldn't he stay longer? She's never said anything remotely like that when booting someone from the Runway. And then Tim (Oh, my little Tim--I just want to....er, nevermind...) gave him the big dignity speech and hug? Never seen that before. I cry major Producer Manipulation Foul.

Love this show....

Did anyone else notice the cute "walk" that Daniel V does in the opening credits?

I was so pissed I totally felt Guadlupe should stay because, eventhough hers was ugly, at least it was original and HER style! Marla's was a copy and badly put together on top of that.

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

if the producers had anything to do with any decisions, it was Marla staying over Guadalupe... Guadalupe didn't create drama Marla does (she's the Wendy of the show right now).... when you say that Santino would've been voted off over Daniel F and it was the producers choice I think you forget how much more talented Santino is than Daniel... again, Santino's lingerie was original and well-constructed while Daniel's wasn't... from a design perspective that episode's decision was a no brainer, Daniel clearly isn't as talented as Santino, so he's out.

I also agree that Santino is "destined" to be around until the end no matter what he does...he clearly is talented (although his twisty braids are starting to get a little old) and is just over-the-top arrogant and obnoxious. I also wish he's wash his freakin' hair.

I liked Daniel, and while he didn't work fast enought to always complete his garments in a polished manner, I really liked his designs. There were others in the lingerie competition who deserved to get the boot before Daniel. I agree with BTA...I think the judges had voted Santino off the runway and when word came from above that he had to be kept, they were backed into a corner and Daniel had to go.

In the end, Nick is a talented and class act every time. He's creative, but still manages to design clothing that someone might actually wear. I thought his Barbie outfit was inspired.

How ironic is it that I...who has no sense of fashion...should love this show almost obsessively...

Torch-
I agree that Santino's designs are--on the whole--more consistently fully-realized than Daniel's, but they are also more repetitive (similar solution to every challenge) and typically feel (to me) over-wrought. People of good faith (like you and I) could debate their respective talents endlessly.

But in the case of the lingerie episode, the judges enumerated the score fairly clearly:

Daniel:
Hated his designs (-)
Admired his behavior as group leader (+)

Santino:
Hated his designs ("we did not like your collection") (-)
Excoriated his abysmal behavior as group leader (-)

How is it a "no-brainer" that Daniel goes and Santino stays?

i think its a no-brainer because Santino's designs were clearly of a level above Daniel's... just looking at Daniel's unimaginative, matronly and repetitive lingerie collection, there's no way that it could be considered "better" than Santino's orginal and imaginative misfire.

if you remember, one of the salient points made by nina garcia was that santino's designs were not original. she mentioned galiano as someone who has shown similar pieces in the past. it was very early '90's gautier for me. you must listen to tim gunn's podcasts. he gives some perspective on the judging process. they are almost as good as the episodes themselves. the level of discourse on this show is a cut above (no pun intended) that of other "reality" competitions.

I like the show and love to discuss it. This and all the "reality" shows. But decisions aren't always going to be made based on merit. If they let Santino go, the show is going to lose a lot of its drama. He's talented but I'm guessing that even if he were a lousy designer he'd still be on the show almost to the end. Who remembers that Omarosa girl from Apprentice? She was clearly a do nothing but stayed on for a long time for the drama.

I'm afraid of Tim's podcasts: I can barely control myself with seeing/hearing him once a week. If he was whispering in my ear? I'd be a mess.

why is that bta212?
you really must hear him describe marla as a "sociopath". very funny. i'd like to see him with a few drinks in him. he needs a presciption for xanax, STAT, then maybe he would stop saying, "i'm worried."

Personally I thought Daniel Franko's designs were great, maybe not for that last challege, but I thought Santino's in the last challenge were awful! Did anyone else notice (sorry if somebody already mentioned this, I just saw the thread!) how he gets this evil look on his face (maybe its just the editing but still) and like laughs whenever someone else is getting critisized?? I think he is mean, evil, needs to wash his face and hair, and should go soon, even though his other designs have been great. Also I can't stand Diana(?) the one with the magnets... in the preview for this week someone was saying something about her voice and I felt the same exact way! sooo annoying!!!

okay sorry this was long lol

Oh yeah, Santino's histrionics are obnoxious! He's so self conscious and mugs for the camera each and every time a comment is made. If he should win this (and I hope he doesn't), I wonder if he'll be told to clean up his act (meaning his personal hygiene and attitude).

Yes I agree with Diana as well. I believe she and Santino get paired up together - he is the one that makes the voice comment. It should be interesting because two people get eliminated Wednesday night.

while i do think santino's comments are petty and unsportmanlike, i think he is being edited to look like a major snidely-whiplash villain. sometimes a comment of his will be inter-cut that wasn't actually made at the time and they'll cut to his face in a grimace or something when it wasn't necessarily happening at that specific time, creating "drama".
for my 2 cents, daniel franco had trouble handling the time constraints of the challenges and he was quite inflexible in his approach (one must really have a plan a/b/c on that show depending on the timeline.) it was hard for him to compete at his best. i'm glad he was able to leave in a memorable and dignified way. have a look at his website. his clothes are quite well made, elegant and rather somber looking.

I agree that Daniel has a certain style which distinguishes his work. Perhaps he'll get work as a result of being on Runway.

I cant stand her voice, but kinda love Diana. When she said the model who wouldnt wear her dress that was no bigger than dental floss "Maybe she should get another job.." I cracked up.

I hate Santino, but like all reality shows, they probably cast him as the villain early on so they edit the show this way...but he has to give them something to put on tape, so it isnt just editing.

I love Daniel. He's funny and talented and cute.

I absolutely ADORE this show, and I have to agree that I suspect producer-interference regarding Santino staying over Daniel in the lingerie episode. And also with Guadalupe getting cut rather than Marla. I may be insane, but I would have worn Guadalupe's party dress (with certain minor adjustments...I wouldv'e lost the weird floppy trim-thing on the side). But I have kind of an outre, rock 'n roll sense of fashion sometimes, and they were supposed to be desigining specifically FOR Nicky Hilton, (whose fashion sense has never been that daring) so perhaps that's why they cut her.

Anyway, I love the show, regardless!

Grrrl--I am wildly in love with Tim G. His khakis, his loafers, his big-boy hair-cut. Those lips! Those crinkly line around his eyes! I think I might become a stalker/predator (calling Gene Shallit....) if I fell asleep at night listening to Tim's voice.

Without question, they are editing Santino in the least flattering, most pot-stirring fashion. Most of his actual statements reflect only a healthy self-confidence and belief in his own skill, which is absolutely the MINIMUM you need to succeed in a snake-pit like the fashion industry. Beyond that, he clearly feels/was instructed to feel that having a "big persona" would help him succeed on Runway.

From my own design studio (architecture) experience, time management is a huge issue. Creative light bulbs don't always go off according to a schedule, and the ability to commit to a design and focus on execution is a lesson you spend your whole life trying to learn.
