SPOILER
"Laura, although I love her wit and commentary, bores me. I'm never, ever surprised by her designs. I'm actually surprised the judges haven't caller her on it more."
tonight they did call her out on it tho. i actaully like all her stuff but i didnt like it tonight, i dont know, it just wasnt my thing.
kayne - i LOVED his dress tonight. i actually was between him and uli for who i wanted to win.
uli - obviously i liked her dress too! my only complaint is that it looked like her miss usa dress, but that was awesome too!
michael - not his best but i still liked the dress. i agree it looked better when he tucked the so called "cat ears" away but it was great.
jeffrey - i dont know, it wasnt bad but it wasnt great either. maybe its just not my thing, but his stuff never is. it was made well tho!
vincent - ITS ABOUT TIME!!! ive wanted him gone since the first challenge! i really didnt like his dress tonight but it wasnt too bad either, i have to say
i actaully think all the dresses were actually pretty good tonight overall. good episode!
Vincent's brown nosing of the judge was absolutely disgusting.
"He's too punk-teen/rockstar fashion "
I think that's why he's doing so well on the show thus far. The judges seem to be frowning on the older, more classic styles and seem to be appreciating Jeffrey's.

"Thank god Vincent is gone. I couldn't take any more of his "it gets me off" and "it turns me on" comments. His dress was awful."
BWAH! I know. Although it's kind of hilarious it's still totally disturbing. He must have said it three times. And can anyone say restraining order? I thought he was about to dry hump Madame Malandrino.
"Maybe not runway material, but I would have worn that dress to my prom in a second."
That is EXACTLY why the dress was problematic. Prom does not equal couture. Elements like the asymmetry of the bodice and the flowing skirt were beautiful, but there was still the costume-y element. He still may make it to fashion week, and it could be interesting! I agree that the fit was gorgeous! I am actually rewatching it on Bravo right now.
I understand what Laura was going for, but it fell flat. I wish she just embraced the spirit of the challenge more and attempted something really glamorous and decadent instead of going all harlequin-collar De La Renta '86.
Uli's was my favorite.
Overall? Eh. The episode was kind of boring.

Uli's dress was very similar to the Miss Universe challenge (though I did like it).
I think Laura's pregnancy is getting the best of her (especially from what was shown on next weeks clips).

Please let that "Olsen twins" stuff be something to throw us off. I'll just die if those bug-eyed popsicle sticks are part of a challenge.
It might have been a ruse, because in the preview for next week, they all got hysterical laughing when they saw who it was. Would they laugh (out loud) at the twins? Hmm, I take that back, I would probably laugh at them!
I'll bet that it is twins -- not the Olsens, but twin CHILDREN.
That could be it Somms. I hope not though, because that sounds boring.
Even if it were the Olsen twins that wouldn't bother me so much. At least you can't say they're media whores like Paris Hilton.
Speaking of Paris HIlton, she was arrested for DUI. They didn't keep her long at the precinct because there were so many paparazzi that they feared a traffic accident because of the flashbulbs. She claimed she had one drink.
Is it just me, or are the judges becoming especially bitchy lately? They are finding flaws in these designers that I just don't see.
Jeffrey: at first I didn't care for the dress, but it really started to grow on me. It's exactly the kind of thing I could see go down some bizarre runway show. Do I think it was the best? No. I did love that in my Kayne text message, he noted that "I HATED Jeffrey's dress--I thought the fabric was cheap and there were raw edges everywhere!" I can certainly see that.
Ulli: I LOVED Ulli's dress! I thought it was very pretty and fresh and I just loved the color. However, this is the exact same kind of dress we've seen a million times before. It was very similar to her gown for the Miss Universe pagent. I love Ulli, but fear that if she makes the top 3 her runway show will be dull.
Kayne: Apparently I have no taste, because I loved this gown. The movement in the bottom was gorgeous and I didn't feel that the top was too flashy at all. Doing a lace-up back was a smart way to get around the fact that he had to fit the dress to 2 different models, and I loved how he cut it on a bias. The velvet ribbon didn't quite match, but if anything it helped tone down the brightness of the gold mesh. I think the judges just have it in for Kayne--I predict him leaving next week.
Michael: This gown had potential, but was poorly executed. I loved the look of the neckline when they shoved down the weird breastplates, and the ruching was admitedly a good idea; it has a very couture sensibility to it. Unfortunately, Michael had no experience with hand sewing it in. Add the fact that his dress got egged and his model was 4 sizes smaller than he designed for...the guy just couldn't win. I LOVED the color, however.
Laura: Let's face it; the dress looked better in Paris. It was very Laura, but I agree with what Nina had to say--I've seen that gown before. There was nothing new or inspiring about it; it came off as very dour and mournful.
Vincent: Oh Vincent. Seriously--it got you off?? You must have low standards. Between the front vs back issue, the weird sleeves, the stupid flower, the upholstery fabric, and the GLUING...you just didn't have a prayer. Take your weird self home and work on earning a new 401K. There's a reason you quit fashion in the 80s. Which I think is where the sleeves on that dress came from.
Kitz, oh so true and very funny!! Vincent has serious issues, and the constant need for validation from the other designers. Laura said so eloquently, "he's a legend in his own mind."
I am so p/o'ed at Comcast b/c my cable service has been offline since the storm this past Fri. A tech is scheduled to troubleshoot this afternoon which is T.M.I. of course. It's just that life is not the same w/o PR.
I would have loved to have seen what Alison and Robert would have come up with for the couture challenge.
I really thought the judges would have nailed Vincent about the construction (i.e., gluing) of his creation.
How ironic that Laura tore Kayne apart about his gown, yet he placed higher with the judges.
I'm listening to Tim's podcast now. He's such a hoot!
The reason Vincent's dress "got him off" is becuase there was way too much breast-age present. It was not very demure and no one other than Lil Kim or Lara Flynn Boyle would be seen in a such an atrocity.
I loved Kayne's Garment. I think the judges were reacting to the gold. I think if the bodice was tamer with a slightly more matching color, they would have liked it more. I agree with a previous poster that Jeffrey had sewn some bedsheets together and wins the challenge. Kayne does lots of intricate hand-work and got pooped on. It was a divine dress.
Kayne, will you marry me?

Interesting episode, but I am glad to see them going back to NYC. The whole Paris thing seemed a bit awkward for the designers. But the Paris judge was a hoot!
OK...
Jeffrey's - I actually kind of liked this one. It was sunny and fun and it looked comfy. The only problem I had with it was that once it got on to Marilinda in NYC, there was some coochie viewing going on. It was too high cut for her (I didn't notice this on the French model, but perhaps it was like that for her too).
Uli's - I loved this one. The color and the work on the bodice was so pretty. It reminded me of a fairytale, with the "rope" detailing. I would have pegged Uli for the winner. The only thing is that it had the same halter top as every single garment she makes. I like this neckline a lot, but I've seen it every week from Uli.
Kayne's - beautiful dress, bad bodice fabric choices. If the top had been the same fabric as the skirt, it would have been absolutely stunning. The skirt was gorgeous and the construction was fab. I just thought the gold was too glittery and obnoxious. Other than that, it was fabulous.
Laura's - Oh my Laura! I could see what she was going for, and it was working on the French model, but once the dress came back to NYC and the collar fell flat, it looked clown-like. I think Laura's "checking out" a bit, based on this week's challenge and next weeks preview of what appears to be a meltdown. I hope not - she's my favorite after Michael.
Michael - Poor, Michael. He had some problems. But what I love about him is that he kind of works through them so rationally. Overall though, not a bad dress. I loved the ruching, once the got rid of the mouse ears, but I didn't like the color.
Vincent - Tis about time! That dress was ugly, plain and simple. It looked like upholstery fabric, and the sleeves were awful. I hated this dress, and he deserved to go home.
I did hear Laura say "Olsen twins" in the preview. Maybe she was joking, although it didn't sound like it; she was talking through tears.
I wish Alison was around for this one too.

OK I surfed over to PR's website b/c I couldn't take being out of the loop any further. First of all, Uli was robbed!!! That gown was beautiful and a relief from her obsession with tropical print. Kayne IMO regurgitated his color palette from the Marilyn Monroe nouveau dress. It doesn't look that bad at the website but I'll withhould final judgement until I see the video footage. Laura's dress looks like something Sigourney Weaver would have won to the Oscars in the 80's which is a thinly disguised way of saying it looks dated to me. Surprise...Michael mistepped finally as I anticipated. Vincent...good-bye and good riddance FINALLY. Last and in this case least, Jeffrey...as much as it pains me to admit it you score big points for producing something with a modicum of originality. All the other designers brought blasts of the past. Though I think Uli should have won this challenge, I'm not destroyed that Jeffrey won it. Like I wrote before, the judges are warming up to him and he's upping the ante. Next week's episode is a MUST-SEE! I have a sneaking suspicion that my fave Michael will misstep AGAIN and get the boot. Kayne will pull off a miracle of sorts again and make the grade. Laura will venture out of her comfort zone to secure her spot. Uli will finally serve up something completely Un-Uli and win a challenge. Jeffrey will deliver the goods again but get edged out by Uli. I'm just worried that Michael peaked early.
It wouldn't surprise me if Laura is the next to go. Not because she lacks talent, but I think she's just tired and she just doesn't have the energy any longer to give it her all.

I agree Dottie - I love Laura, but she's giving me vibes a la Robert - she seems like she's a bit exhausted with it all, which the impression I got from Robert as well. I think also perhaps - and this is just speculation - is that the stress takes more of a toll on her physically now that she is preggers, and she's starting to realize it.

Her pregnancy was very apparent in last nights episode. She seemed to be showing a lot more since last week. I can't imagine how she would muster the energy to work on a complete line of clothing if she were in the final 3 and had to show during fashing week.
Peach, did you happen to read the interview with Robert that I posted last week?

Dottie - haven't read it yet. I will go check it out now...

Bravo's website sucks! It's poorly organized and a bitch to navigate.
I didn't love Jeffrey's dress, though I get why they chose it. He's not half as great as he thinks he is. A Vivienne Westood wannabe with a big stick up his ass. The only week I felt he deserved to win was when they made the clothing out of garbage. That creation was very innovative.

After looking at the pictures again, I stand by my decision that Uli should have won, hands down. And, to clarify my own questions above, Jeffrey's dress was a major tootie exposer on both Marilinda AND the French model. I'm surprised Kors didn't go all "that's vulgar" on him.
Dottie - just read the interview. Very interesting! Sounds like he got picked on a lot by the judges...which surpried me on the garbage challenge, because I thought his silver dress was pretty cute.

Kayne is in WAY Over his head.
Jeffery's dress looks like Big Bird puked on his model.
Uli was indeed Robbed
My heart STOPPEd during the elimination because we have seen Vincent escape elimination at the expense of better designers before.
In the preview (even before they showed the clip of laura mentioning who the special guests were next week) it was obvious it was the olsen twins, which I'm not thrilled about
